what about night shots? grainy/noisy?
looking at some video samples, 4k video looks a little jerky, but what you expect for a phone that price. Might have to comprise down to a lower resolution. does it have any ois/eis stabilising feature? Anyone know if got compass?

I've just got this phone and it's unbelievable value for money. It does have a compass and FM radio. Its WiFi reception range at home is awesome through thick walls and far superior to my old phone, 4g on EE also good. Came within 10 days via Ali express. I believe new miui update due sometime soon. Can't believe how they're so inexpensive!!

Auto update assuming its a legit version of the software
There is a more budget variant 4A. It's worth paying the extra for this one. Redmi 4 prime doesn't support band 20 4G and the Note series is a jump up in size. This is a good overall option if you're after a smaller phone.

How does it work getting this delivered to the UK, is this an American site, as price is in USD. Will I have to pay postage & what about customs tax??

Its from China, everything can go well but expect zero warranty or support if anything goes wrong. PayPal is a good option but only if it doesnt turn up.

I've ordered numerous phones and other tech from Banggood and Gearbest. Never been stung with customs charges. This is very rare and you are genuinely unlucky if there are extra charges. I've always found customer support to be very good and you can sort issues (changing orders etc) online quite easily through online chat. The only real downside with these sites is the wait for them to arrive.

Free post BUT do not upgrade to faster postage as apparently these tend to get flagged by customs just stick with snail mail........
I must have bought hundreds of items over the last few years from around the world (mostly China and USA) and paid my first customs fee last week (£28) but as it was for a £130 watch that costs £250 over here I was still quids in.

For the price this phone is excellent! Battery life is a real selling point. My partner has one as she has never managed to drain the battery in one day even with heavy use. She will regularly finish the day with 70%+ battery. Everything else is perfectly good on this phone. Don't be put off by 720p display or snapdragon 435, not been an issue at any point! Most reviews on YouTube wax lyrical about this phone, quite rightly so!

Would this be an upgrade from an LG G2? It has become unbelievably sluggish
bellboys to sumpter
14 Jul 17#30
If the LG G2 has become sluggish then most new phones would actually be an upgrade, if you get my drift. But the LG G2 was pretty high end in its time whereas this is a budget phone these days. But the LG's time time was quite a while ago now.
I'm still using an LG G2, it's 3 years old now. I've installed Lineage OS and it still runs very smoothly. I'm just hankering after a new phone, possibly with a larger screen.

Yes, it's an upgrade to the HTC one m9 and LG G4 based on using both of those prior to this.

If you are looking to China then the Redmi NOTE 4 Global Version in 4gb RAM/64GB Rom guise can be had for just over 130 quid. 5.5 FHD screen, metal build, all the necessary UK network bands etc etc. Worth a look (they do a 3GB/32GB version for about 110 quid as well.

Just to make people aware. I've bought numerous things from China over the last 5 years and have never had a problem with customs or items going missing.
However be prepared for a long wait. Sometimes you may get things in good time but they lie about tracking numbers and shipping times to stop you from cancelling. When they say business days it means it means Monday and Tuesday!

So's mine, a factory reset helped a little bit.

I use to think that, but I don't think you'd been disappointed with the screen, its quite vibrant. 720p is ok on and 5 inch screen to the point where I can really tell the difference from that to 1080p.

Battery is amazing, camera is below average, its good in bright light but in low light or indoors it's quite poor.
stubluebird1927
14 Jul 17#59
MIUI is one of the better overlays and is virtually stock android, the battery and screen are very good for what you are paying. The camera is only good in perfect conditions, anything other than perfect conditions and outdoor then the pics are average quality with lots of noise.
GPS is accurate unlike some of the other import phones so that's not an issue.
All in all it's a great budget phone but not for you if you want to take pics.
Other half needs a new phone and these hit just the right spot except for the lack of NFC.
Tempted to go with a Nextbit Robin just for the NFC...

15 Jul 17#63
lack of 1080p screen (difficult to go back to 720p after using 1080p for a while) and no NFC put me off personally.
but a decent deal if these are not important for you, and if you don't mind the risk of having no warranty

15 Jul 17#65
Got one of these last time around, good phone. Very snappy to use, good screen and interface (iOS like). Only downsides for me is the camera isn't brilliant and since the battery is so big it takes ages to charge so a quick charger and good quality micro USB cable is a must for this, makes a huge difference.
I went with the quicker shipping option and didn't get any customs charges but others didn't seem to get lucky.

unbelievable price and great value.
I've bought this version about a month ago for AliExpress and got myself a 4/64GB version which arrived two weeks ago.
The MIUI 8 OS isn't as customisable as standard android but it does the job - MIUI 9 is out in Aug17.
I'm on Voda MVNO so don't get 4G yet anyway.
The 3/32 GB version I bought for my mum who only uses it to receive incoming calls, about 2 calls per day for 30 mins. the battery last about 5 days. assuming you condition the battery correctly and full charge then deplete it is solid.
same goes for the 4/64 version, im a low end user so per day, 25-50 SMS/msgs / 5-10 calls totaling 50mins/ about 1-2hrs of internet over WiFi mostly, bit of gaming - I am getting 2 days from a full charge.
the best investments ive made for a while and now £20 cheaper - immense, thank for posting - may buy someone a sneaking xmas pressie

Sounds a good deal for the specs, but the 720p screen is a no for me. Has anyone used or got the Ulefone Gemini Android 6.0 Smartphone with 3GB RAM 32GB ROM, which has a FHD screen, for around £88? I can live with the inferior processor, but the better screen is a must. Tia.

Great phone but I think alot of people confused by the Xiaomi models, the Note 4X (5") and the Note 4 (5.5"),

If it's "Note" then it is 5.5". Note 4X = 5.5" not 5". The 5" model does not have "Note" in it's name. This deal = Redmi 4X (5") (not Note). 5" Redmi 4X = 720p SD435. 5.5" Redmi Note 4X = 1080p SD625.

Buttons aren't backlit on the 5" Redmi series. They are in the 5.5" Redmi Note series though. For the Redmi 4X, there's only a notification LED below the home button, but the buttons themselves have no LED. It is the same with Redmi 4A, 4, 4 Prime<< and the Redmi 3S<< before this.
