I was wondering. Do I need a Kinect? The real answer is most probably - No.
But I've just seen this, £17.99 delivered and had a little read about and found this on Reddit. Worth it?...
Things you can do with Kinect now:
Play some great Kinect games: Fantasia, Fru, D4, Dance Central Spotlight, Fruit Ninja Kinect 2, Kung-Fu for Kinect, Kinect Sports Rivals, Air Guitar Warrior, Blue Estate, etc.
Skype in 1080p with auto-digital zoom
Broadcast your game via Beam or Twitch with camera inset or do the same while making clips in Upload Studio
Use it as a microphone for game chat, party chat, or streaming
"Xbox, on" to start up your console; "Xbox, turn off. Yes" to turn it off.

Search ebay for "Kinect AC" . There are lots of cheaper options.

If you are in Xbox preview program you will have no end of trouble getting Kinect to work properly, since I withdrew from program and factory reset my Xbox one s the Kinect works perfectly, when on preview software it would turn itself off intermittently , all sorted now I’m out .

Not to mention the best use case of Kinect for XB1, as an IR Blaster. You can basically configure it to turn on/off your TV/amp/soundbar via Xbox.
Buy an Xbox media remote and you can control volume too. I basically use just one the media remote to control my TV, Xbox and soundbar.

This functionality is built into the Xbox One S console - it has an IR LED in the front of the console, which doesn't require line of sight - it's like some kind of witchcraft...

Mines been playing up lately, doesn't turn on when i turn on my xbox, I usually have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working. Is anyone else having the same problem/s?
btw Its plugged into my xbox one s via the adapter, could it be the adapter?

I had the same issue with my OG X1, I though the console was giving up as sometimes apps and games wouldn't launch. Traded it in, got the X1S and free adaptor, same issue. I then figured my external HDD (Seagate) was causing the problems so I now only plug the HDD when needed and everything works fine, including a nearly 4 years old Kinect that I still use a lot with Skype and occasionally with some games.

Seconded for FRU, then there's Fruit Ninja which is good fun too. Kinect comes into it's own when you've got a group of kids (or big kids) to amuse but it's not really been well utilised by game devs.

Ah Kinect, the biggest pos in xbox history. Originally including the £100 camera with every system is the reason we ended up with such an anemic soc.

What are the space requirements for the XBox One Kinect compared to the 360 version?
For the 360 I had to buy a range reduction adapter to get it to work in my small room.

Much better, this was improved for the Xbox one Kinect. I don't use it for gaming but the facial recognition sign in is handy. When my daughter uses it it defaults to her age appropriate settings without any sign in being required.

That's pants! Microsoft should always offer the adapter for free as they removed the port out of the updated hardware. So much for one big Xbox family. Come on Microsoft you can do better!

this Kinect is a very high tech piece of kit it's unfortunate no developer actually used it well. this is a £100 camera so this is a bargain but again there is very little content. I hope they make 360 kinect games backwards compatible with Xbox one and Kinect 2.0 but no one cares enough I guess

Yeah, still the best and highest quality way to Skype that I've found, especially with several kids together on sofa. Auto sign in useful as a family of 6.

Really recommend checking out FRU for the Kinect...
I use mine to turn on the Xbox - handy to tell it to turn on when reaching for the controller, saves a few seconds... Also comes in handy to tell it to "record that!" when I manage to pull a fly move in game! Other than that it doesn't get much use (in fact I have it pointed at right angles to the TV so face detection doesn't work)
Heat added btw...

Wikipedia list 21, but I think they're games totally aimed at Kinect usage. I know there's a lot more such as the previously mentioned use of it in Alien Isolation. I'm not sure if it's applicable in the latter FIFA games, but you used to be able to make substitutions with it.
