Appreciate if this might not fit some people's need. But for whoever is looking for one this seems like a good price. I've ordered from these guys before (as many others may have done too) and most stuff they advertise as grade A+ are coming new (with slight damage to packaging). Current price for a new one is around £110.

Obviously everything is, in a sense, worth whatever you're willing to pay, but this thing is far being the Rolex of controllers.
1 in 6 reviews at 2 stars or less, rife with complaints about technical faults. It's not great, is it. Even for £70.

I'd be interested to know the production cost. I suspect Microsoft are keen that I don't.

Voted hot for the price.

Get some nail polish remover and wipe the buttons with some cotton wool, the get a mcdonalds straw or similar, cut a little slit so that the straw fits around the buttons and twist. Sorted my stick button right out.

28 Jul 17 #32
Which button?
Abxy/menu buttons could be due to a foreign object wedged in there and need stripping and cleaning.

LB/RB probably needs a new bumper altogether, possible damage to bar connecting them.

RT/LT could be physical damage to frame or to the rubber that holds the magnet in making it rub against the rear shell internals.

Is this a refurb? It doesn't say in the title?
If it's a brand new unopened pad with a scuffed box as it seems from the description then it's gonna go 1000°+ very quickly!

Cracking price and the controller is great to use hopefully they'll release a newer version with the added Bluetooth etc
escortboy to B3aver
28 Jul 17 #24
Yeah they're making the Gen2 elite and it's a significant improvement over the standard One S pad by the looks of it!
I'm concerned that there is a weak link in the One S pads though.. on the 3.5mm it was the bumpers that kept failing which the One S doesn't suffer from.
The Bluetooth pad has a common failure of the thumbstick module where one of the retainer clips breaks and leaves the thumbstick with a lot of play in a clockwise/anti- clockwise movement (twisting movement) which makes playing shooters very difficult and needs a new module.

I think it might be due to the 33% increase in resistance over the previous generation pads which is creating more stress on the component causing it to fail.

It's the same controller as a standard one except it has rear paddles and a profile switch added.

If you have a standard 3.5mm controller (not S) you can make a replica without the rear paddles very easily..

I've never heard of that on an Xbox. Have you tried someone else's elite controller to see if the problem persists and could be a hardware issue with your PC?
The only connection issues I've seen are on pads that have been dropped/thrown and significantly damaged.

I really regret buying mine. I've had two fail in 2 years now. First one got stick drift so i couldn't drive with it and now the LB on my 3 month old replacement has failed. GAME are refusing to replace as it is now out of the original warranty.

I've never had a £35 Xbox 360 controller fail but now two £120 controllers.

Bumpers are an easy fix. There's sellers on eBay that will repair and send back, or you can buy the bumpers and fix it yourself ~£9 plus your time. It'll be as good as new provided you haven't broken the retaining piece on the frame of your controller which rarely breaks anyway.

escortboy to Confuzz
28 Jul 17 #30
Unless you would actually use the paddles, trigger stops and profile switch on the fly I would get the One S controller because the bumpers are way better and you've got 33% more resistance on the thumbsticks which give it an almost identical feel to the 360 pads. Much more precision..
escortboy
28 Jul 17 #28
I always strip and clean used pads and often on the elite fit a new front and rear shell along with grips so that it's not grotty.
The thumbsticks tell a lot on these because the module that the base slides into is plastic. The thumbstick base is metal so over time it scratches the thumbstick module down, reducing it's diameter resulting in loose fitting sticks. If you turn your Elite pad upside down and the thumbstick bases clunk down you know it's a well used controller.

How old is your console? Microsoft don't ask for the date of purchase of the controller, but the console when they process the purchase to then generate a return code for the retailer.

I had the left thumb stick go loose , mine go changed through Argos, but they offered me their 3 year warrant for £30 on the replacement so I took that as well as Argos just to a straight swap then without talking to Microsoft..

Haha, the grip came off my elite pad (a common know issue) Microsoft would not do a thing as i was a month over on my warranty. I had to pay to send it to them for repairs. I go a scuff grip set to replace it instead. Microsoft seem to be aware off issues that plague the elite controller but don't want to do anything about it. I think theres a reason the pad only has a 3 or 6 month warranty in America. Best pad ive ever used though so even with its known faults I can't be without it now.

Also new grips are about a tenner delivered from eBay or £15 ish on Amazon.

28 Jul 17 #48
Nope it needs the new one which can be had for about £15. You could use it wired or buy a One S pad instead which is Bluetooth or wait for the Gen 2 to come out which I'd expect would be this year as they are making the parts in the factory for it as we speak.

This is my only reservation in buying one. I've had 4 controllers in 12months brake, none if them the elite, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the components are the same. I've never dropped or thrown a controller. Only play the Xbox about 10 hours a week. They just all keep failing. The right stick drifting has happened twice. Both bumpers have broken, I keep the old controllers for spares to make 1 new good controller. But I'm slowly running out of parts. My last controller kept switching off after 2 months. So I exchanged it. I've ordered parts off eBay, but they are cheap, don't sit perfect and feel rubbish. So many fails, so i cant buy one of these? Because when it breaks (which I have no doubt it will) I'll be annoyed with myself. Hope when this new Xbox comes out they resolve the problem. I've heard the controller for the new Xbox is going to be simular to the one s controllers and they keep dying on me.

28 Jul 17 #59
Same experience here. I think the elite is a problem product. A lot to go wrong with it and a lot that does go wrong. So many broken ones on ebay. Still i love the pad. Its easily the best feeling pad i have ever used.
wild_quinine
28 Jul 17 #60
This is the problem precisely. They have created the most premium controller to use I've ever come across.

For the money you spend, and the feel of the product, you'd expect the build quality to be up to the same premium.

... and it just isn't.

But what are you going to do? All the other gamepads feel like cracker gifts afterwards.
thesinstar
28 Jul 17 #61
Luckily the only problem i had with mine so far was the grips peeling off. Ive replaced them with some scuff ones. The rest of the pad functionality is still there. I tried to go back to the standard pad for about a week. But actually found that the lightweight feeling and plasticky movement of the joysticks started to hurt my hands. It feels hard to go back once you've felt the elite. I just hope the rest of the pad holds up. I wont be buying another.

Its hardly game changing. Its a standard format controller that costs a few £ to manufacture.

Any slight movement of the wire can disconnect it from the pc, I have several ps4 and xbox one controllers which do this safer just using it wirelessly and charge using a wall plug
NotTayyeb
28 Jul 17 #64
Sure, feels like the standard one.... Ish

The elite one has a much better feeling heavier weight, smoother triggers, much more precisely moving analogue sticks....

Then there's the hair trigger switches for the two triggers too, the rubberised grip, the paddles as you mentioned, different height analogue sticks, different dpads...... A replica is not very easy to make love...

a) you've never held one, and don't know what the fuss is about

Im on my third replacement now in a year and a half. Got it replaced again by GAME 2 weeks agi. .They were not happy bunnys.. Initially refused, even I have still got 6 months of gamecare warranty.

The manager tokd me over the counter that they will not give another if a fault devolps and my policy has been cancelled .

Have been meaning to send them email but no got round to it.

Anyhows, I have had losse thumbsticks, sueaky trigger and faulty headset jack.

Great controller such a shame poor build quailty.

Game seamingly bin the returned faulty controllers well thats what she told me anyway.

The Scuf ones wear down so that your can't see the S logo anymore on it and are pretty soft rubber so aren't a magic cure.
You can modify standard plastic grips if you've had enough of things wearing out though.
escortboy
29 Jul 17 #71
I was fortunate and got some elite stuff at cost from a friend for around £30 and made a replica, it wasn't difficult.
The weight comes from the metal thumbsticks/dpad and rear shell.
The analogue sticks are the same, it's the One S sticks that are more rigid. You can measure the resistance using a set of kitchen scales to check this yourself.
The triggers are exactly the same items as a standard controller.
The rear shell has the trigger stops built into them and works with the non-elite.
If anyone did want to make one you need:

Elite front shell
Metal thumbstick bases
Different height thumbsticks
Green magnetic dpad base
Metal dpads
Elite ABXY buttons
Elite LT & RT buttons
Elite bumpers and centre piece
Elite rear shell
Elite rear grips
T8 security screwdriver
T6 screwdriver

29 Jul 17 #90
Yeah, not really that many custom elite controllers on eBay it's mostly parts to be honest.
Switching the ABXY buttons is the only pain, the rest of it is easy.
The LT/RT are annoying because aftermarket items buzz due to being slightly out. You could try and mod them maybe.. I think working out a design that uses Genuine triggers would be better though..
The aftermarket ABXY buttons can need sanding/adjusting as well.
Oh and the bumpers like one in two of them that are aftermarket don't work properly so I'd get some spares and be ready to send some back. Apart from that it's great!
I've been wanting to use the Xbox One S gears of war crimson omen as a front shell for a long time I think it would look amazing!!
