Seems a good deal for a RAID NAS, especially considering 2TB WD Red drives seem to be ~£80 each.

Can someone clear the mystery for me - I did check but in doubt. When it says cloud - can I access photos from my phone if the device is connect the network back home ? Also, I guess there are no issues in leaving it running 24x7 ?
I want to backup my photos, movies and some software. I don't care about the speed really but needs to be reliable.
Thanks.

Why is that?

I got one 2 years ago for that price I think. It's still going strong. It replaced a 3tb one which replaced a 2tb one which replaced a 1tb one. They were all great and were only replaced due to needing more space. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these drives, even recertified ones.
It's a NAS drive. That's kind of the whole point. :face_with_monocle:
Mine isn't the mirror version but the last 3 I've had (2tb, 3tb and 4tb) have come with Twonky Media Server pre-installed, which you setup through your browser, and I've used that for streaming media to my TV (an older model Samsung Smart TV) and games consoles. If you don't mind messing around with a bit of command line Linux you can install other programs on them, including alternate media servers (although not Plex, I don't think). Twonky's always been fine for me though - I was able to manually install it on the 1tb drive that came without it - and I've also added things like SickRage and torrent clients.
Well a media server and media storage are two different things. I wouldn't rely on any drive that was always on and often in use to store my only copy of all of my precious files (although I haven't lost any data in my 8 years of using these drives). These are great for serving media if you want to stream photos, music and video to different devices, but if those files are important to you I would advise having them also archived on a USB drive somewhere and/or cloud storage.

Oh no I would never storage anything other than media. All that is in cloud storage. The MyCloud is for films and tv etc... for streaming to Kodi. Nice little setup but defo wouldnt recommend doing anything other than that

That does depend on the type of RAID used. Does this only support RAID 1 (mirror) then?

It probably supports raid 0 which is worse than useless

It supports 0, 1 and JBOD.
I've got one and it's not great. Software is clunky and slow unless you turn off the indexing service via SSH.

I'd be more than happy with this to back up photos and documents and to have the drive mirrored is a big plus. 2tb is plenty for photos and documents
I take it you download movies

2TB is plenty for Photos you say depends greatly on what format you choose to take and keep them in..
2TB is nothing when your using RAW format files.. But if its photos you want to backup, I would invest in cloud storage over local storage any day.

Not only download but convert dvds and blurays. It's surprising how much space they take up when converting to mkv. Also digital books and almost everything I have collected, software etc over the years.

WD have had some good deals lately on their recertified drives,i managed to pick up a 2tb my cloud drive for £46 which didn't seem a bad price.

For a media server? I'm perfectly happy to buy their reconditioned portable drives, in fact I've got three. But not for a media server, and if you raid it, you've only got 2TB, which is very small nowadays

Returned one a few weeks ago. Beware you can't transfer files via USB. also mines kept disconnecting.

2x2 is not very useful for a Media Server IMO. And with only a three month warranty, is it worth it?

Is the £10 off code still working?
