Think I'll put up with Virgin's crappy customer service and keep my 200Mbps BB thanks.......

I've just put in a request to cancel my package

150MB + phone line which i've been paying £47 a month (slowly creeped up from a much lower price due to their constant price hikes.)

Guy didn't offer me any package at all (this is quite normal for me in retentions of any contract) and was happy for me to request my 30 day cancellation.

Now... the question is this..

1. Will i get a call from virgin for a stonking deal i cannot refuse?
If not..
2. Can i open a new contract now as per this deal, in my other halves name for the contract to start when my current expires in 30 days???

or...
3. What are my other options for fibre broadband around the £30 ish mark.?

I have been stung by VM - they have charged me for making calls to the speaking clock - not possible as I don't have a phone connected to my land line. They want to sent an engineer out to investigate - what's to investigate? There's nothing connected at my end to make out going calls ffs! Already had the police knock on the door as our number rang 999! I have to restart the router almost daily now as it keeps getting an "No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out". These are known errors and are reported on their bulletin board by many customers, but still no resolution! I only stay with them as the alternatives are much worse!

I have signed up for the mix bundle with £140 cash back but can't see any sign of the transaction in the topcashback account.

Any ideas of how long will take or should it show already ?

Not sure how to do it. Consider instead ditching the landline altogether. Last year I cancelled my contract and started a new with wife's name (BB only @ £18/mth). We did not use the landline at all and the TV channels were pretty much Freeview really. With the savings I now subscribe to Netflix and pay mobile rolling contract.
We have a 30-day mobile rolling contract with plusnet (LifeMobile previously) @ £5.95/mth which gives 1,000min/mth. Use Android box to watch TV via BB connection and chromecast for Netflix, BBC, etc.

Doesn't seem to work for me. Go through either the £140 or £80 cashback link, shows as being £39 or £32 a month. I start the order, click continue with bundle and then on the "your order" page it shows them as either £47 or £40 a month.

Also, does anyone know if (provided I get it working) feasible buy this with a start date 3-4months later, and ability to cancel it before it starts? I'm currently in the process of buying a house, and should that fall through I dont want to be paying for this.

The only problem with Virgin is the "UNLIMITED" down time in your **** connection.
The reliability has always been ****, and the new hubs appear to be absolutely worse than the ones before.
A second class company, flogging a second class product, to customers it has utter contempt for.
I am a virgin customer only because i have no other viable choice in my postcode and it really boils my wee wee that i have to pay these idiots for my constant disconnections. If i ever see Beardy Branson in the street, i am going to give him the worlds biggest atomic wedgie.

I went for it, just with the topcashback as is £140 for the deal.
For the record, we cancel today my wife's contract with them. So I order the £29 deal (under my name) after cash back, to be delivered on the 11th of August self install, this one comes with new TiVo v6 and sh3.

Hopeful works out well and I get the cash back .

The 500GB TiVO, both Samsung and Cisco, are very old tech, and as such very very slow. If for an extra few quid a month one can get the V6 box it's like night and day performance wise.

My wife 'was' a long term customer of 16 years, we called them a couple of months ago for a better deal, they offered to up our bb speed to 100mb and our package would be £40, we tried to haggle and the rep got shirty and arrogant, so I requested a 30 day termination...they never called!
So now I am the new customer, we have a new number, new superhub 3, tivo box etc. for £32 ( £20 activation) , same as deal listed, went through Quidco which was to track at £80, currently tracking at £40, just waiting for confirm of £80 on the 6th of August.
Moral of the story, if you end up terminating, set up a new account in your partners name to activate the next day after your current one finishes.

If anyone wants a referal then pm me :sunglasses:

I waited 2 weeks. Nobody rang, so I rang back & asked them to find me a better deal. Bill went down from £53 to £42, its not a huge amount but you can't get a new customer discount as an existing one. They say you'll have to wait 1 month before signing up as a 'new' customer if you recently cancelled (from the date your services expire) or you could maybe sign up as your other half, new customer & keep bank account same (haven't tried this, but should work)

I ordered via Topcashback today and the latest the website let me specify installation was mid Aug. But I phoned the number at hte bottom of the confirmation email and a nice lady put installation back to end Aug as that's when my 12m is up with BT. BT were goingto sting me for over £100 for early termination otherwise. October might be pushing it though. You could double up for a month or two?
Sophiasky
10 Jul 17 #46
I used to be with Virgin Media but wanted to reduce my monthly costs, so changed over to a one-year Sky contract last October. At the time, I had no plans to go back to Virgin Media so removed all of the cables going around my room (right back to the box outside the front door). I've had Virgin Media mailing me to return and they have said that as I have all of the cables already in the house, it will be easy to switch back. Just wondering how much extra I would have to pay out to have all of the cables put back into the house? Two of my teenagers might be moving out in a couple of months and then I would really need to cut back what I pay on my current bundle. I'm interested in this deal above, but would I be able to get it if I am still in contract with Sky until October? Thank you.

I got a retention deal recently that included an upgrade to 100mbs from 50mbs but I rarely got the 50 and its doesn't seem to have improved since the upgrade! The whole speed thing is totally misleading and certainly around here (Dudley) the 100 mbs is a fantasy!!

I just "cancelled"...

don't waste time with normal customer services, ask to speak to retentions for starters

listen to what they offer (it won't be the best offer) then say no thanks and give your 30 day notice

they will phone you back within 7 days

I got full house TV package, with BT Sports etc., 150meg BB, v6 box, £50 credit, weekend landlines (don't even own a phone but they chuck it in), no install costs etc

£39 a month, saving almost £20 from what I was paying previously for far less, so it worked for me

I signed up recently and had the install done on Friday, no install or activation fee and £50 credit for the friend referral. Additionally line rental of £30 pm after credit £2 a month

Chat didn't offer anything. Direct sales didn't offer anything however 30min later pre sales called and offered me this deal. The jokers signed me up however didn't apply the discounts to my account until a few days later when I threatened to cancel the order. Make sure you verify any deal they offer you a few days later. When I called up, customer services told me such deals aren't offered and I was misinformed!

You tend to get better deals if you talk to them about adding another service, this could be small like changing your phone to unlimited calls or upping your broadband to a higher speed. Just did mine to 300mb and it was less than I was paying for 200mb!

The 500GB TiVO box is trash, tho. You'll curse every time you have to use it.

Secondly after the termination of VM services there will be a 90 days cooling off period, meaning for 90 days after the termination of the contract goes into effect VM will not supply my property with any of it's services regardless of who lives there.

I'd love to see where that is written as T&Cs.

On Saturday I spoke to VM customer service to renew my contract, I was told a new policy had been put in place. I will not get a call back once I have given my 30 days notice.
