Just an update - coffee tastes good but pod number four failed to pierce and caused a mini-flood. Never had this issue with my usual pods. Watch this space...

Oh no. I've never had that happen, sounds frustrating.
The U:pods have metal rather than plastic, and I've not had any issues with piercing them but the mob have only got through about 15 of them so far.

It was the coffee pods which arrived the other day.
Good news for those wondering, they've got metal not plastic where the pod gets pierced.
I think the design could be better though, as all flavours are black plastic and it's the metal which is colour coded, which in my upright pod holder can't be seen.
The coffee got a thumbs up from everyone who's tried it so far.

I got a great machine for £25, it's never been any trouble, never needed descaling, hardly needs any cleaning and if you keep your eyes peeled you can get good quality pods for about 12p a go (obviously). Even without any deal there are good ones for 23p. I swear by mine.

Pre heat your cup with boiling water before making your coffee. I also microwave half a shot glass of milk for 25 secs to put in my Americano. Keeps it red hot. Also descale your machine regularly. I've used the expensive Nespresso descaler and a much cheaper Supermarket one. Both work well and you'll find a bit more temperature when cleaned. Hope this helps.

All15 and COFFEE! expired but free postage is for orders over £11.49 now and 10.5% TCB, so £11.50 got me 50 With Friends and 20 'Moments - so at £11.50 for 70 pods or less than 17p a pod (all Lungo) thought worth a punt - thats without the TCB as wont count that until it lands

15% discount code ALL15 appears to have expired.
I used discount code YE8 for 8% off - ordered 5 X Kick start and 4 X With Friends = 90 capsules, for £12.42, free delivery. Used TCB link for hopefully 10% extra.
I have always bought original nespresso capsules full price from boutique - always found them better than compatible pods (i have tried around 5-6 compatible brands, such as M&S). I don't resent paying the full price like some people - I think Nespresso deliver a wonderful product and a great coffee drinking experience. I have literally tried all flavours many times, and regularly buy the Kazar, Indriya, Ristretto Decaff, Arpeggio Decaf, Vivalto Lungo, Envivo Lungo, Fortissio Lungo and Caramelito varieties in bulk!
But for this price, willing to give these compatibles a try! Reviews on amazon look encouraging. I will come back on here in a month when I have received, experimented and let everyone know my thoughts
Lastly, and most importantly, thanks OP!!

This deal: 12.8p+ per capsule, £12 worth of capsule min spend per order = £12.80 minimum order (100 capsules)
--
Alternatively:
Nespresso website: 200 capsules x 31p = £62
This deal: 200 capsules x 12.8p = £25.60 (& £2 back in rewards points & £2.56 topcashback)
Looks more like £s saves rather than pennies.

I have a Nespresso Inissia which has been fine, and have never had to descale. I used to have a Gaggia Classic but find the Nespresso more convenient. Anybody have any experience of the tea pods? I get that coffee requires water at a certain pressure for espresso etc. but for tea? Surely loose leaf or tea bags are the best? :man:
EllEzDee
23 Jul 17#32
Are you in a soft water area? I've never had to descale a kettle, or any other water appliance...but the nespresso machine will not function without monthly (!) descalings. After 2-3 weeks the amount of water that comes out gets less and less, and you start having to hold it down. By 4 weeks, you get a dribble of off-coloured water. The de-scaling process takes a good 10 minutes as well, because you have to hold the buttons down, and run the litre of solution through a bunch of times.
It's a CitiZ. I've never seen something so expensive designed so terribly...

Instant coffee is mostly horrible. The Nesspresso stuff is at least actual coffee. You can give them that. The morons who spend £3 on a cup of coffee are the ones going to coffee takeaways on the highsteet. Nespressos are from 31p to about 39p per pod.
The real problem with them is that they're massively wasteful, overpriced, and the machines are complete rubbish, at an insanely expensive price.
They're a nightmare to clean, they clog all the time and have to be flushed with limescale remover to function, they won't work if the pod is damaged in any way, and they're so terribly made that they get grime in all the worst places.
Fresh coffee and a traditional machine is the way to go.

I really want to get the nespresso machine but not sure if you can make variety coffee. I like lattes and machiattas kind of coffee. Can you get these with this machine?
The_KELRaTH to dreamz
23 Jul 17#23
Yes you can but one thing I would recommend is get one with a drip tray and one that supports the height for glass tumblers. (this one should as it looks like a slight redesign of the Nespresso Citiz machine.

23 Jul 172#22
Well it's actually upwards to 31p and doesn't taste anything like the instant, percolated or filter coffees.
Some ppl buy a car as cheap as possible because it does the job getting them from a to b, others might select a sports, a 4 x 4, with refinements that while may not get them from a to b any faster it is a more enjoyable experience.
PS. I too use the microwave for 1 min to heat the milk even though I have a frother as I use Nespresso's double walled latte glasses - fill with milk to 35%, hit micro, then Nespresso and done

We have a kettle and instant coffee. When we want a latte we microwave milk for a couple of minutes. Amazing to think that some morons spend £3+ on a cup of coffee in a cup that isn't easily recyclable.

beware of nespresso compatible pods made out of plastic, ive tried them and they do not aways pierce at the back, and may blunt the spikes at the back of the machine, some,of the ones i tried had the back pushed in but only one hole made , instead of three.
