I have all my TV etc. on one and one lamp - means the TV, record player, speaker etc. are off at night and when away.
The lamp means I can turn it on and off remotely when away, or have to come on at dusk.
I have two of the HS110 - but can't see any real point in the energy consumption readings. This is more than enough.
I do not have any device to control them apart from my phone.
Despite having two, I can't see any point in buying any more.

I use these way more at home. Even without voice control, my heating is electric, so i can turn it on an off from bed, or indeed, when i'm on my way home on the bus... and there's no sockets near my bed, so it's handy being able to turn my lamp on and off without getting up.
It also has scheduling and timer functions, so you can program it to turn on and off (again, great for the heating in my case. Turn of in 1 hour, or schedule it for 6-7am)
You can also use it as part of a smart home network, with Echo/Google devices, or with IFTTT.com triggers, to turn things on and off based on other inputs.
I don't have a fire TV, so i'm not 100%, but i'm pretty sure this was something people use IFTTT.com to work around, until it was eventually added as a native option on fire TVs, so there should be 2 ways you can do this now.
You have to add a skill for Kasa (the app used to control TP-link switches manually) and link your account, but after that it appears in your Smart Home devices with the name you gave it in Kasa, so you can say "Turn on TV" or "Turn on lamp". You need to be in the same room as Alexa or use the app.

Very good price as these are not reduced often. I bought two on B Friday for £16.49 each so this is a good price.
As above though I have two on lamps and its very handy but I can't think of where I would need another...

Would you be able to plug an extension cord (with about 3 other devices) into this? I have the PlayStation, a WiFi extender and the TV plugged into an extension cord so saying "Alexa turn on the TV" and have everything turn on at once would be brilliant.

You can connect extentions to these however it's likely your TV depending on model will still need you to turn from standby to on with a remote. If you had an xbox-one you can use the kinnect to turn everything on at once. I've had my home cinema and living room set ups turning on with 'xbox on' command successfully for about 18 months.

Yes I use it for exactly that reason. 5 "entertainment" devices in one 6-way socket plugged into this which is then plugged into my mains. So TV, HiFi, Blu-Ray player, Apple TV box, Now TV box all come on at the same time and not wasting standby power when they can all go off at schedules or when I ask Alexa to do so.

It's for controlling anything else that you might want to control remotely, or through something like Alexa. I have one on a fan so I can switch it on and off from the bed. I assume you'd also be able to trigger it through IFTTT so there are many possibilities - have a radio come on a timer, or along with lights etc, crock-pot timer, have a kettle boil as you get in wifi range etc :smile:

On a security point it's highly advisable to attach these type of gadgets to a guest network. The security on these types of devices is often very poor or non existent. Attaching them to your full network provides easy access to all devices on your network.

you need the kasa skill for your Echo/Echo dot and link it that way.
Wherever your Echo/Echo dot can currently hear you in the house it will work with the HS100. If it can't be heard in certain rooms/floors then yes you will need another Amazon Echo device.

I got one of these from prime day have it set up to a fan in my daughters room so can remote turn it on and off when the temperature warm and can remote turn it off instead of going in her room and disturbing her.
Good price for it and it's useful if you have a device that can come on soon as it's plugged in.
Will use with the Xmas tree this year instead of climbing around back turning light on and off.

Never actually looked at those but for £20 it's prob better grabbing a second Dot when they have deals like prime day...
...though there's not many places in my flat that I can't shout to activate Alexa and I think I might find myself single fairly quickly if I buy one for the bedroom (embarrassed)

if you have a family all running in and out of a house then whats the point of the kettle boiling, and I would still need to make sure its full of water and the switch clicked down seems counter productive to have to ensure that every time, when i have to go to the kettle to pour it still.
My radio comes on when I say Alexa listen to Radio One or LBC etc..
My lights are all controlled by Hue, Alexa and Dimmer Switches.
most modern devices use less than 1 Watt when powered down.. it would take you about 20 years for the switch to pay for itself in that sense.

It might be a safety thing. Someone I know had a house fire from their dishwasher while they were away for the day. If Alexa turned everything off while they were away this wouldn't have happened.
