For one day only, Terminator 2: Judgement returns to the cinemas but in 3D! Showing is at 7:30 pm August 29th (the day Judgment Day happened in the film). Other cinemas are showing this to, but are charging almost double the price. The ticket is £6 but 70p per ticket for online booking.

This is proving very popular so i massively recommend booking now. 3D transfer is meant to be excellent and was overseen by James Cameron himself, much like with the Titanic 3D conversion.

Forgot check Vue, i know Cineworld wanted about £11 a ticket though. We normally use the Empire cinema in Wigan as closer to me, plus they usually have a decent voucher on the My Empire to use for a freebie or something. Hopefully something good in August.

Stop this nonsense!

There's only two good Terminator films the first two and the second is probably the best. This film was never filmed in 3D, it never needed to be computerised in the 3D, there's no need for this! Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

For some reason, and only really applicable to our Northern Ireland readers, but the Odyssey Cinema is showing it on the 25th, with a VIP Screening in 3D also (at an eye-watering £22 - £20 if you are a member for reclining leather seat and small drink and popcorn!!!!). At least here we have an option if the 29th isn't suitable.

Nottingham Showcase around £13 with booking fee, or £9.10 if you are an insider - free sign up, but only one ticket per order - however if your family has separate accounts and you do it quickly you can each buy your own ticket and end up next to each other.

This film is better than anything else released this year, yet it only gets one day in cinemas? This deserves a wide release and not just in 3D. It would be so much better if, instead of remaking so many things, Hollywood simply remastered and re-released the classics every so often.

I saw Battle Across Time in Florida and it really was fantastic - basically a compressed highlights reel of the action scenes in T2 and the 3D was amazing.
reddragon105
27 Jul 17 #66
That's an alternate ending that you've probably seen as a DVD extra, where you see old Sarah and John in the park playing with his kid on the swings. It's never been included in any official version. The usual ending is the one/with the shot of the dark highway that ends with her saying 'if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too'.
Not sure which version is getting the 4K restoration/3D treatment but most people seen to think it's the original 137min theatrical cut, so it might be missing some scenes you remember from the director's cut, which is the version you've most likely seen on TV/DVD, such as the dream sequence with Reese, removing the Terminator's chip, the T-1000 glitching, etc.

That only applies if a film was shot digitally. If you shoot something at 2K then, sure, it's never going to be 4K - it could be upscaled but it will never be true 4K.
However, before digital (like in 1991 when T2 was made) films were shot on actual film - that plastic stuff covered in chemicals that react to light. As an analog medium, film has no resolution - when a digital transfer is done (for DVD or Blu-Ray or even cinema these days, as most have switched to digital projectors) the film is scanned in at whatever resolution is required - and you could scan 35mm film in at a higher resolution than 4K before you couldn't get any more detail out of it.
This is why, when we move on to 8K, films like The Lord of the Rings, which was shot on actual film and could be properly digitised at 8K, will look better than films like The Hobbit, which was shot digitally at 4K and so any 8K version would just be an upscale.

T2 3-D: Battle Across Time

Well really the way it was meant to be seen is with live actors, and you're not going to get that experience in your average cinema!

reddragon105
27 Jul 17 #85
Yeah, I prefer the director's cut. Maybe it's just because that's the first version I saw, being too young to have watched it in the cinema in 1991, but I think it's become the definitive version for most people. I understand why they cut some of the scenes but things like removing the chip and turning off 'read only' so that the Terminator can start to learn and a longer introduction to Miles Dyson seem like really integral parts of the film. Hopefully they have done a 4K transfer/3D conversion of that version and that's what we'll be getting on Blu-Ray UHD.

Cineworld is also showing it, just FYI! I just booked at my local one and seats were going fast so it's worth checking now. You can always cancel it if you decide to see it elsewhere.

reddragon105
31 Jul 17 #122
Looks like it, going by the 137min running time the cinemas are giving it.

Except for the new 4K transfer, the 3D and the bigger screen - the key is to go to a nice cinema, not a grotty one!

It's the original theatrical cut (137min) that's being re-released in cinemas, but since you asked the main things the Special Edition (153min) added are the dream sequence with Kyle telling Sarah their son is in danger near the beginning, the scene where they remove the Terminator's chip and deactivate the read-only setting so that he can learn how to act more human and then you see John teaching him to smile, there are more scenes with Miles Dyson, particularly him explaining how the neural net processor he's working on will benefit mankind and then saying he's taking the kids to Raging Waters, and at the end there are a few shots of the T-1000 malfunctioning after he's recovered from the liquid nitrogen - he starts morphing into the things he's touching without meaning to.

Yeah i imagine it is the theatrical version getting the 4k/3D treatment. You can get the Sarah Connor ending as an easter egg on Skynet edition - i think via a remote code, its been a while since i put it on...probably never again heh!

Late reply but your only contribution to this site is posting a deal to cheap melons in asda 5 years ago, so your opinion counts for nothing.
Ps we watched it again tonight!!

Aah so by your logic, because I have only posted one deal, I have no idea what is and what isn't suitable for children?

gotcha.

Obviously, posting deals on a website is what qualifies one to be a responsible parent....

Instead of passing judgement on my parenting skills you might want to start actually contributing to the site instead of just taking from It. Luckily there are other ppl that post deals because if everyone was like yourself, this website would just be a bitchy forum.

Truth.

They took a grungy 80's scifi slasher flick villain, a complete bull-busting, unstoppable killing machine and... turned him into a baby sitter! He gives a little thumbs up at the end!?!? Complete nonsense.

Could it be they got the Judgement day date wrong by 20 years?, because nothing happened August 29th 1997!.
