South Africa Nintendo sells it for 390 rand which equates to less than £23. Got minecraft for around £15 the same way before and works fine. Just create a separate profile on your switch to buy from the South Africa store.

This article explains one of the big post launch updates that delivered significant improvement

Game wasn't very good at launch but has changed a lot since those initial reviews

It's €29.99 on other European stores. There seems to be some sites that sell eshop € credit. Seagm has 2 €15 for £27.18. Of course you need to have a European Nintendo account to redeem and purchase.

Alternatively, back on the UK store, buy a £25 eshop card with 5% from cdkeys and pay the difference to get it for £27.80.

Anyone else found ways to shave the price down further?

As long as you don't have credit on your Nintendo account, you can change region at 'accounts.nintendo.com' but if you have any credit on your account you won't be able to change without contacting Nintendo, so don't change region then load it with credit, pay by debit/credit card.
As long as there is no credit on your Nintendo account it's very simple to change region as often as you like

Bomberman on Norway eShop works out as £23.79, so a fee-free card would get it for that, else there would be a small exchange fee by your payment method (usually 2% or 3%)

Wasn't Nintendo's decision actually. In recent years, sales of non Nintendo published games were always driven by the respective publisher.

As I don't have a Switch yet, I'm a little out of touch with the digital purchasing rules; Are purchases tied to just one machine (like they are on the Wii U) or has that all changed now?

i dunno...switch already has two of the best rated games this generation and it's only been out a few months...by the end of the year it'll probably have four of the best rated games. Hardly any games...but when you have 2 or 4 of the best rated games year one it doesn't really matter. So.can definitely see the sense in picking one up.

3rd party games never hold their price for too long regardless of hardware they're on. Nintendo though are completely reluctant to discount their own games...they hold their price for a long time.

It's not that great a version of Bomberman. £20 would be the sweet spot for me. I still don't get why digital is more expensive than physical, especially when you factor in buying a decent SD card.
Marcoos to warlockuk
1 Jul 17 1 #31
In the case of the Switch at least, physical and digital actually start off at the same price. Physical tends to start quite high due to the costs of cartridges and Nintendo wants digital to match this, so physical sales don't get dented.

However retailers will end up reduce the price of physical, they always do! But rare to see digital budge, especially 1st party stuff. This is one of those rare sales on the eShop for the switch at the moment

1 Jul 17 1 #41
Yeah, that's the problem. If it's the same as retail it's actually more expensive as you have to pay for the storage media.
Worse yet, physical always drops in price and can be resold... so basically digital becomes pointless for games already available physically.

prankster101
2 Jul 17 1 #48
I assume the two Switch games you are referring to are the glorified Wii U ports, yeah? Both of which sell for AAA prices, and are a means for Switch owners to justify it to themselves that their purchase was worth the necessary effort and expenses.

With regards to Nintendo's track record of making the best games, I assume you also mean to include recent turkeys such as Starfox 0, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival and Metroid Federation Force, yeah? Because where I'm standing, having saved my money and time by not investing in such a worthless system, the likelihood of Nintendo making the best games is akin to stating that a broken clock is correct more than twice a day.
preacher
2 Jul 17 1 #49
Thanks that puts it in a price range I'm happy to pay.

Not sure why there's hatred for Nintendo and the switch? I also have a gaming pc so thy compliment each other perfectly. I'm not going to get into an online argument on the merits or shortcomings of a particular company or product, that's pointless.

For me. I'm happy to pay an extra £10 to download it and not have to change the cartridge. Maybe it's because I game on a pc and I'm used to it. I no longer change a cd when I want to listen to different music so why with games? technology has gone past that point.
frish
2 Jul 17 #50
Eh less about convenience and more about keeping real stores happy. If stores couldn't sell their games then gaming would move to rely almost completely on online for everything console related which would be a very bold move. Honestly I don't think many people buy online unless there's deals to be had, especially with only 32GB of space. Piracy would be more convenient than paying full price on these games.
Pac3y
2 Jul 17 #52
Good price, but the game is absolutely dire. Input lag online? No thanks.
jsty3105
2 Jul 17 #53
Nope.it's not worth it. But I'm ok with no resale value for a small selection of games which I have no intention of selling. A lot depends on the price though.
jsty3105
2 Jul 17 #54
That's a fair point but it's pretty well documented that stores have been struggling with game sales due to digital options.

Market data suggests that plenty are willing to buy digital, seemingly even at full price (which is a surprise to me but they're prob not members of this site...).

Convenience is just one of the purchasing factors ppl use but I contend that it is a very important factor. Not just convenience of access, it's also about managing physical space
jco83

May be able to use your card to pay, will be a 2 or 3 % foreign exchange fee charged, unless you have a fee-free card.
I've been using Revolut app which gives you a virtual card with very close to flat exchange rate. (think they put on 1% or so on weekends)
Also I've just been changing my Nintendo account region at accounts.nintendo.com so all my purchases are tied to my 1 account no matter which region eshop I bought them from.
Bear in mind if you load a Nintendo account with credit you won't be able to change the region without contacting Nintendo so best to pay using debit/credit card.
So far I've bought Shantae from Norway eshop which cost me £12.63 using Revolut, and Snake Pass also from Norway eshop which cost me £8.81 as it's currently 40% off

I read on another deal thread that there's no way to buy sa eshop credit. You should however be able to buy with a credit card once you've changed your region

To my knowledge Nintendo didn't make Starfox 0 or metroid. And animal crossing wasn't exactly 'the A team'. So eer yeah, welldone.

One game is a Wii port (Mario kart)...the other, again to my knowledge, was released the same time on the switch...so not exactly a port no. But yes, the switch has the best versions of both these highly rated games. And again, it will have least one more of this gens top rated games by the end of the year.
But if decent games aren't enough of a reason for you to justify my switch purchase what is? tech? I guess it depends on how you look at it? weakest console...or most powerful handheld system made? personally I buy gaming machines for the games...happy with my purchase. Why that upsets you I don't know
Maybe if you're a good boy father Christmas will get you one this year, then you won't need to save your pocket money. win win!
prankster101
3 Jul 17 #64
I'm not upset. Because I'm not the one who was riled into writing an elaborate defense for why they've wasted their life in buying into Nintendo's half-baked ecosystem. But hey, if you're able to sleep at night after convincing yourself that the Switch isn't a completely worthless system (that doesn't provide decent ROI), then who am I to judge?

Seems like a case of Stockholm Syndrome to me... But you delusional Nintendards wouldn't understand that even if you wanted to.
frish
3 Jul 17 2 #65
I don't see why you need to be so defensive about the switch. I've seen a few people on here act exactly like that as if only their opinion counts. If you like the switch and the games then that's great. The thing though is that a load of nintendo fanboys feel the need to overly defend their platform. They are great games sure, but the fact that the 2 games are on the Wii U isn't really a big selling point to get a switch is it? Especially given the cost of both the games and the handset. They are very valid criticisms that people are allowed to have. Frankly if the Wii U didn't flop so hard, I'd imagine more people would be critical of it being a port platform. The switch is starting to get newer games which is great, but people aren't wrong to have their reservations over an expensive platform that has low battery life, low storage, expensive games, limited portfolio where it's better to wait until you buy a switch if interested. The switch is a good platform that allows a good handheld experience that can be docked, but there are a lot of things that also turn people off from the device currently.

Hopefully the games will start to drop in price. I don't really like how certain people try to justify the cost just because some of the games are good. Everyone makes games that attract certain people.
jsty3105
3 Jul 17 1 #66
All fair points put in a considered manner.
bleachedsmiles
3 Jul 17 #67
kid, I'm not the one getting 'riled'. You're the one that found yourself compelled to comment on a post for a Nintendo switch game when you don't own a Nintendo switch, and labelling those that do 'Nintendards'.
I was just simply correcting you as you're misinformed in crediting Nintendo with developing those games. I also never said Nintendo even make the best games...I said they have two of the highest rated games this gen on switch already (which they do). And by the end of the year it could be four (which it could).

I have no Stockholm syndrome. This is the first Nintendo console I've gone in with since Gamecube as a console, and 3ds XL late in its life two years ago. I own all platforms. And actually owning a switch along with Zelda and Mario kart it's already been well worth the price of admission. Mario at the end of year is just the icing on the cake. But do I have the switch as my primary console? of course not. It's a secondary...like all Nintendo consoles and handhelds. Does that mean it's worthless? Not when it already has some of the best games, and games you won't get anywhere else.

But yeah, who are you to judge? yet...'Nintendards' tee hee hee ...yet, probably never picked up one.
bleachedsmiles
3 Jul 17 #68
Dude, fanboys in general feel the need to overly defend their platform of choice. It's nothing new, and certainly not restricted to Nintendo. Go into any Sony or Microsoft forum if you want to see true vile.
Two of the games are indeed also on wiiU...The better versions are on switch. Microsoft and Sony better hope that's a good enough selling point or they're screwed with their midgen consoles. The switch of course has more selling points than that. Plus the wiiU didn't sell, and isn't getting future support. Both are valid reasons to port some of its gems over to the switch so that they may be enjoyed by a wider audience likely for the first time. Good games are good games. If they're on something else (which, let's be fair, 99% of games aren't exclusive to any console) it doesn't remove the fact that good games are on the switch.

I never said people were wrong about having reservations. Nintendo tax is well known. I think their pricing is shocking, and have already mentioned they don't devalue quick enough. But does that make a system worthless?
prankster101
3 Jul 17 #69
Jesus Christ... Will you never stop?!?! You've just spent what seems like over an hour trying to defend a company whose sole ambition has been to rip off its fans for nigh on a decade. Have some self respect. And just because you don't value your time, as clearly you don't (otherwise you would never have bought a Switch in the first place), doesn't mean that you should feel impelled to waste other peoples' time. And that's not fair...
jsty3105
3 Jul 17 #70
You should stop too please. This is venturing into threadspoiling (and the constant attempts at riling people up are apparently succeeding). Plus if you don't have a Switch and are actively telling others why they are wasting time with one then there's not much reason for you to be active on a Switch deal thread.

For example, I don't have a PS4 and don't plan to get one unless I strike rich, but you won't catch me talking about why I won't get a PS4 in a PS4 deal thread. It's just not worth my time.
prankster101
3 Jul 17 #71
Don't know man... I only wrote a few sentences. And never expected to be met with a tirade of literature that tried to call me out on being "wrong".

Also... you really are doing it wrong if you have the money for the Switch and its overpriced games, yet don't have any pennies left over for the PS4 and its extensive library.

I hear a brand new copy of Deus Ex was £5 this morning. At the same time, the fact that this "deal" can reach 900-odd degrees sure does prove that the Switch owning thirst is real.

Kudos to you my friend, for as much as I would love to be Neo (from the Matrix), I sure am glad that I dodged the bullet known as the Switch.
jsty3105
3 Jul 17 #72
Just a question of priorities. On the go gaming and not needing to be in a fixed location are my priorities for gaming. I have a gaming PC to scratch other needs. I'd love to be one of those gamers with multiple setups but life just gets in the way. It's pretty obvious you were fishing for a reaction from anyone (name calling tends to do that) so please abstain from further threadspoiling.
prankster101
3 Jul 17 #73
Pfft... I was just questioning the validity of the "deal" in the wider context.

As for the Switch's supposed "USP", I'd rather just read a good book whilst on the go.

No wonder Nintendo fans are referred to as Nintendards. Too much playing, and not enough reading.

It's your life... And if you want to pay over the odds for substandard tech and games (Bomberman etc), then that's your prerogative.
