From tomorrow morning, sugar at farmfoods is going to be 2 bags for a whole quid. Using app, so would appreciate if a mod could add a retailer for me

Totally fascinating BBC documentary about the food industry here and in America. Incredibly, they turned the tide about eating between meals with the massive Cadbury campaign ' a finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat', showing that suddenly, children needed a quick sugar boost between finishing school and having their tea. It all went from there. It said in the docu that this was the moment that the concept of snacking was born. I tell my kids that onceover, you never saw anyone eating or drinking as they walked about, apart from fish and chips, or an ice cream.

Not sure about the food industry inventing snacks but
For a family it's cheaper to cook a meal than buy prepacked or takeouts
Even myself, living on my own, I'll cook a meal for two and put the second in the fridge for the next day.
But it's about burning off what you eat and with todays kids they all just sit at home on their pc's or mobiles - on this estate I see the same half dozen kids (about 4 - 6 yr olds) playing outside daily but where are the rest?

I agree, it's the snacks. The food industry invented the concept of snacking, in the 70s. It had always been called ' eating between meals' and was frowned on. That's what my Mum would say if we saw someone overweight- that they were ' eating between meals' Tbh, I've always given my kids great big, home cooked meals, and puddings, plenty fat and sugar, and never offered snacks. All super-slim.

With obesity at an all time high, especially in children i think a sugar TAX should be initiated (fierce)

Sugar is not the major problem to affect obesity
Sugar has been available for generations - it's bad lifestyle choices that are the major cause of obesity.
Sitting in front of the television watching tv or playing computer games whilst eating crisps or takeaway or prepacked foods are the causes.
As a kid I ate dripping sarnies, ketchup sarnies, sugar sarnies and most of the kids ate the same and were skinny. The only fat kid would be the one whose parents allowed them to eat snacks and excused them from school sports whilst allowing them to watch tv all night unlike the rest of us who would be outside in the fresh air playing and actually doing physical stuff.

Not a bad price, but I suspect that you possibly can still get the 2kg bags from Morrisons for 88p
Heat still given as still reasonable in these times.

And to think sugar was once so rare, it was worth more than gold.
