This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further.

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is a last-man-standing shooter being developed with community feedback. Starting with nothing, players must fight to locate weapons and supplies in a battle to be the lone survivor. Playerunknown aka Brendan Greene, is a pioneer of the Battle Royale genre. As the creator of the Battle Royale game-mode found in the ARMA series and H1Z1 : King of the Kill, Greene is co-developing the game with veteran team at Bluehole to create the most diverse and robust Battle Royale experience to date

WOW! £19.99 to become a beta tester & to think but a few years ago THEY would pay YOU to test their buggy software.
What a bargain! I have many of the finest gossamer suits that are only visible to the most clever & superior of humans for sale for £100 if anyone needs one. What a bargain!! That's two in one day & you cannot do better than that.

I've been playing games for since before you could by them on cassette tape, there has always been some one saying you could get paid for beta testing, but I have never known any one who got a cent.

Most you can hope for is a vanity item or title on launch, after you paid for the title.

To me paid beta = urban myth.

Yes, a number of sites carried that article on the 6th July, which is why on the 7th July PLayerunknown decided to comment on it and say that they couldn't keep to his initial promise from earlier in the year (the comment about 6 months).

Many of the gaming press covered it on the 7th, here are just a couple of them :

Well, they are a bit more expensive. but I would not call it OVERPRICED.

My laptop:
7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ Quad Core (6MB Cache, up to 3.5 GHz)
15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display
8GB, 2400MHz, DDR4
256GB Solid State Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 4GB

Dell Inspiron Gaming 7600 Series It cost me 800 GBP

Similar configuration desktop.. is basically - not that cheaper. at least, if it's cheaper, the gap will be minimal. and in addition, I would have to buy all peripherals, like keyboard, monitor, cables, etc.

Now, my laptop actually sits on my lap when I play games and I sit on the sofa. So, in addition to that, I need a spare desk for that desktop.
And the last reason - lack of space which could be dedicated for desk for my desktop.

so tell me, how the desktop would be my savior?

otherwise, yeah, desktop would allow me to have probably a bit more powerful system, but in the very end, I am very satisfied with my laptop performance... and price for that matter

I believe that gaming laptops are overpriced and unnecessary. If u have space for gaming laptop u surely have space for a monitor. U can even put your PC in a separate room and use STEAM link. I totally get why people buy them but it is waste of money. I know this firsthand. I used to own gaming laptop lol.

They had promised that back in March but recently said that is no longer the case, and have changed it to Q4 2017 'at the earliest', so it may not even be this year.

However, I think the game is in a pretty decent state already, enough to have plenty of fun in and look forward to more to come.

You can grind for all ships in-game so you only need to buy a starter package and away you go! But i have upgrade/bought/won some ships so managed to end up with 3 now! I have said that is it and no more, but i knew what ships i wanted and didn't fancy grinding to much. Some is fine but not when i have to grind 99% of the time i play to get anything.

Great game. Far more finished than many "released" titles these days. Buy it, try it, can't lose at this price. Still a bit buggy at times but to be expected considering what they are doing. Devs are making really nice updates, perf updates in the last patch were very good.

I think the loot system is fine, it's meant to be hard to find stuff, otherwise everyone will be kitted out by the 10th minute and it may as well just be a free for all death match on a large match. The RNG is what makes BR games, the loot was the same in Arma BR (which PlayerUnknown created).. H1Z1 died because as soon as you land you find the best weapon and you're sorted for the rest of the game, PUBG is literally doing the polar opposite. The key to finding good loot is going to a high populated area and out playing the other players.

Mouse and keyboard 'mod' is fine, used to play against pc players with mouse and keyboard on shadow run and there didn't seem to be the such a big advantage as made out online.

Could you point me to the Xbox One hack as I haven't run across any yet and would be interested in seeing them.

I have come across some PC player unknown hacks and watching the videos of them you are lucky to kill them as they show all the players with red boxes and the distance away. And auto head shots. Really ruins the game for me as there is no skill to it.

I agree I've not seen any cheaters in 137+ hours, maybe there have been but when I've died its felt like my own fault. They also have lags switch block which freezes screen of anyone with very high ping/lag switch. You probably haven't been on EU servers all the time though. I monitor/block the servers through my router and although you select EU(only Frankfurt available in EU) 7 times out of 10 you will be connected to east coast US servers. I hope they sort that as its the cause of many peoples lag.

dont get me wrong
i think the game is great once its finished but its very frustrating now, you loot and cant find a any scope and after about 45 min of looting you get sniped and dont know where the hell you got shot from. the loot system is broke and they need to fix it asap or it would be the same as H1Z1

Game looks awful in third person. Never understood the popularity of it.

However the realistic first person mode.... Now that looks ridiculous. I'd love to play that in 5 years when the game is finally out of beta.

Lag got sorted out last patch, haven't seen any lag since on EU servers.. of course there's still bugs but they're not game breaking, they'll get ironed out soon enough. The dev team have already given it a full release date sometime in October, which means it will be in early access for around 6 months, a lot better than other early access games that have stayed in that state for 4 years+.. as for cheaters, I have 300 hours played and haven't come across a single one.. to each their own I guess.

The game does look like it could be incredible. I saw a couple of racing videos a while back and it looked like it would be a lot of fun. Do you have to spend much more money past the initial buy in? I always get scared off when I start scrolling through the ship list and see ships for hundreds of dollars.

It's not like they've done a For Honor where they spent a load of cash to keep it on stream but the game wasn't up to it. There's over 367,000 people playing this right now. That's probably more than are playing all battlefields and call of dutys across all platforms combined. Not bad for a game that's been in early access for less than 4 months!

This is a must buy - 4 million can't be wrong - and for under £20 it's a steal. SEARING.

Top 2 is best I've done, but some of my old CS Clan mates have had chicken dinners in squad mode a few times. This game has literally stopped me playing everything else, it's brilliant. Yes, it's buggy, but if you get down to that last 10 in the ever shrinking circle of death, the tension is incomparable to anything else in this genre.
Moss87
16 Jul 17 #106
the game is buggy, lags a lot, server issues, loot issues as well as cheaters. but has the potential to be a great game

With people complaining about variety, I tend to play many FPS online, from BF1 to RB6 Siege.. PUBG has to be one of the only games to grip me straight away and it's kept that grip on me since I first started playing it. Currently on 300 hours played. Modes include solos which I spend most of my time on, you vs 99 other players, last one wins. Duos which I also really like, teams of two battle it out till the end.. and then squads.. teams of 4.. this mode is fun if you just want to casually kill without caring about your surroundings since you'll most likely have a team mate next to you to take the fight on.. and by next month we will also have first person servers, so no more camping behind a corner waiting for someone to run by.. there's also custom modes which are unranked and have different rules including a zombies mode where the zombies are controlled by real players.
f2k8
16 Jul 17 #103
If you're struggling to run it, just remember that this game demands high CPU usage.. the better your CPU the more frames you'll get.. if you're trying to run it on a laptop.. unless it's one of those 'gaming' over £3k+ laptop then you've got no chance. A decent i5 and GTX 970 will run this game at 60fps with decent settings absolutely fine, and both can be bought in used condition for around £300.

The circle only seems to speed up dependent on where you are. If you are on the west side of the circle and it moves far east it will move faster for you than it will for people on the east side of the circle due to having to cover more distance. It really is random where the circle moves to though. Give it another try with some friends. It's great fun.

I got this on Steam on Friday night, but refunded one game later (top 30 then killed by the blue circle because it sped up...), personally feels like it should just be a mod for *insert fps of choice here*.. Not enough there for stand alone in my opinion and I'd get bored.

There is an issue with your internet connection as the reason for that message is because your ping went too high. Its to stop cheats using lags switches as when your ping goes high they freeze you on the screen with that message. Its brilliant they have added the feature imo. The only issue I have with connection is when you select EU servers they connect you to US servers about 7 out of 10 times. I use a Netduma router to block US servers but every time it connects to US servers that are blocked I have to crash the game and reload to try again. I presume there will be more servers when game is fully out as there is only Frankfurt for Europe at the moment and I ping about 25ms to that.

As for price its HOT as its best game I've ever played (40 years old so had a lot of gaming). I've had quite a few 7/8am finishes as you just keep thinking one more game. I'm not even that good at the game but its so addictive.

It's a great time to hop in to Star Citizen as you'll learn the game before the big version 3 hits, this is a new video talking about reclamation, but really I'd recommend watching the last 3/4 Around the Verse episodes (they give behind the scenes of game development):

It's not beta though it's early access. Beta is the bug fixing/optimizing phase once a game is feature complete. Early access is something different where you pay to play a game in an early state, and no one is forcing you to take part.

I bought ithe game in Jan 2016 so not as long as some. When I found out about it I thought this is the game I have been waiting for! I think it is worth it now as there is enough to do for a few sesssions-there is a FPS part now, plus missions, plus races or co op battles or team death battles. The price will only keep going up as it gets closer to release. I would be certain the next free fly will be 3.0's release as that ( and 3.1 onwards) will definitely be worth the entrance fee so they will want to get more subscribers by showing it off.

Thanks m8 took a punt on Elite Dangerous in the steam sale not that impressed by it but Star citizen seems easier to pick up and more engaging with others players, been waiting for a free fly for a couple of months but nothing?

Which starter pack did you purchase or were you an original pledge to the crowdfunder? would you recommend it in its current state to people?
chapchap
15 Jul 17 #43
Well by August the next big release called 3.0 will be out- that will show the basics of the complete game. They should have a free fly week then so you can give it a try. It's like some GTA5, Elite Dangerous,COD/BF type cross thingy.

Whats SC like been tempted a few times but put off by the entry ship price for an alpha game that doesnt seem to be moving forward anytime soon?
Joshimitsu91
15 Jul 17 2 #41
Early access is a great way for people to vote with their wallets on some less mainstream games to show the big publishers who don't take risks what we actually want to play. But maybe we should all listen to crap like this and let all these smaller studios fade out of business while we await the sterile big publisher approved titles like Call of Duty 2017 edition.

Have you heard there is this even crazier thing called Kickstarter where you pay money and you DON'T EVEN GET TO PLAY THE GAME FOR MONTHS OR YEARS! Perhaps you can give us some of your thoughts on that? Can't wait to be enlightened.
SixtyFive
15 Jul 17 12 #10
WOW! £19.99 to become a beta tester & to think but a few years ago THEY would pay YOU to test their buggy software.
What a bargain! I have many of the finest gossamer suits that are only visible to the most clever & superior of humans for sale for £100 if anyone needs one. What a bargain!! That's two in one day & you cannot do better than that.
scotia2 to SixtyFive
15 Jul 17 1 #13
Perfectly applicable argument for single player games, for online it doesn't apply as much. The game is pretty good, it didn't even get reduced in the steam sale because its drawing so many players in through word of mouth. They dont need discounts to promote it.
m00ny to SixtyFive
15 Jul 17 #29
Just shows the popularity of this game, early access, very few/small price reductions and still a major top seller on steam. Maybe you don't want to pay to play an early access/beta game but a huge number of people do and very much enjoy it (myself being one of them.)
f2k8 to SixtyFive
15 Jul 17 #40
Jesus that's a toxic comment for a game like this.. I agree if it were any other early access game but this game is so polished and it's only been in early access since like February.. it's more polished than some of the gully released games out there. I think this game is well worth the £20.. it's such a good game.

Top game. Brings hours of entertainment if you have friends to play with.
m00ny
15 Jul 17 #35
Well I can't argue the fact that you're paying for an early access game and that in the past you could get payed to play beta games. Thing is, I don't have access to a time machine, don't know about you? My argument is more about your sarcastic "what a bargain," this is a good price (the best price afaik) for this early access/beta game whatever you wanna call it and a huge number of people are playing and enjoying it.
Danjw91
15 Jul 17 #34
Not sure how. I've got i5 6600k with evga 1070 8gb. Maxed out on ultra im at 70fps+

I already have H1Z1, Is this any different or more of the same? And more importantly, better or worse?
The_Hoff to paulst
15 Jul 17 #33
About 10x better than H1. For a start you can't just get a car, kill everyone by jumping out at 70mph and insta killing them.

That game is now officially redundant.
SixtyFive
15 Jul 17 #32
And? You're point against my facts are?
SixtyFive
15 Jul 17 #31
There is NO argument except for the one in you're mind that you are attempting to embroil me in. I simply stated fact.
simonbrown
15 Jul 17 #30
You're paying to own the game (to the extent that anyone owns a game), not to be a beta tester. The game is in a better state right now than many fully released games ever reach, so your argument holds no water in this case.
AlexHaden
15 Jul 17 #28
Good price

Quick summary -

99 players screaming obscenities down the mic while everyone joins the game, you then bail out of a plane, aim at nearest building - sprint around to get a weapon, leave the building, get sniped by someone who you can’t see.

Rinse/repeat until you want to punch your screen.

That being said, I am rubbish at these games!

Quick Summary: 99 Players, Very Quick to get into a game ( maybe 2 mins ). Jump out of plane and parachute down onto island, Find guns and stuff in buildings huts etc, Try to be Last Person alive. Also has motorbikes and cars. During game a zone reduces slowly at first, being outside causes damage, eventually reducing to a 4 man standoff in a quite small area ( although still big enough to hide ).

It's early access, and there's alot of game to be had here if your the type who likes Battle Royal style games. It's clearly marked everywhere that this is early access. No one is forcing you to buy it so not sure why so salty? But anyway, you could pay 20 for this or 50 for things like Mass Effect or Infinite Warfare and have been slapped in the face with a massive turd.

Bar the need for a extra map or 2, for this price I would be happy with the game in the state it is now. It's extremely fun to play alone or with friends.
