Camera is £427 today in Prime Day. Still shows cashback of £75 available from Sony, making final price £352. I did want a mark 4, but at this price seems a steal?

A good camera doesn't stop being a good camera just because newer models are made. All five models of RX100 are widely available and all five sit at different price points. The mk V is undoubtedly better, but it's also over £900. It's existence at double the price does nothing to stop this camera being a fantastic option for under £500.

Not really. The first sentence is about your claim. The second is about the product registration. I found I had to go back into my account and register the product separately.

There's no great hurry to claim cashback... I think the offer's on until September and you get a month after that.
Unless you need that 75 quid more than desperately, wait a couple of weeks and enjoy your camera.

I wouldn't worry. You've got ages to claim the cashback. I sent a message to them yesterday asking how much cashback it is i.e. 75 or 100. Realise it is £75 but it does clearly state £100 on the homepage.

pretty sure you cant do it straight away, iirc its usually a month or so to stop you claiming cashback then returning camera
for the guy asking about memory cards...you probably DO want a min of 64gb as under that you cannot physically use the highest quality video codec regardless of speed of the smaller cards
greencode
12 Jul 17#55
64GB: No, that's perfectly fine. TBH, I usually just choose a card that's the best value and it just so happens, recently, the 16GB and 32GB cards have been better value. Some people prefer smaller cards so if you loose one of them or your camera gets stolen you only loose so many photos.
Looking at the user manual for the MK3 is states (based on a 2GB card)
Standard 295 images
Fine 170 images
Extra fine 125 images
RAW & JPEG 58 images
RAW 88 images
I always shoot in RAW and JPEG but you only really need to shoot RAW if you plan on editing in Photoshop or similar.

Thanks, is there any reason for not going 64gb or is it just unnecessary? No idea how much space a photo on one of these cameras takes up.
Edit: also is it bad to use a micro sd in a Sd adapter? Will the camera recognise that?

Depends on what you're using it for. If movies then a Class 10 card with UHS 3 speed class. I use either Sandisk Ultra or Extreme and stick to 32GB cards.

Oh well thats my mind made up price has gone up so gone for the cheaper option. Prob a big step up on the fuji that had the lens control fault that seems to be a common issue. What I should have done is got both and sent the one I like the best back given price/performance. She who hesitates and all that

Personally that's where I really notice the difference. The larger sensor and smaller aperture allows great photos in very low light without the use of flash.
You sometimes get a better idea of the capability of the RX by looking at real world photos using this camera on Flickr https:[email protected]/pool/
Ultimately you get what you pay for. The HX90 is a capable camera but not in the same league as the RX100

greencode thanks for that, have seen some sample street scenes from the more expensive ones at night and you can look into windows that are not the main subject even when a streat lamp is right in front. Very impressive http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/sony-rx100-iii/YDSC00135.HTM . Cannot see any samples like this with the cheaper one but dont expect it would be anything like that

Only £50 cashback, but still a good deal as I was about to post myself. Lack of raw format and smaller sensor will put off the more advanced user though in comparison to this.

Depends on the quality you're after. The RX100 is high end compact and has a larger sensor and far better maximum aperture to name just a few things. If you're after a quick point and shoot then the HX90 is certainly a great camera but not a patch on the RX100.

3x optical zoom. For a compact camera where versatility is key (jack of all and all that) I find the lack of zoom extremely limiting.
This has happened before with a similar promotion they ran. Worth taking a screenshot of the main page and if it fails get in touch. I've just pretended to go through and make the claim and from the dropdown only the DSCRX100M3GDI.YG model (£75 cashback) appears and the CEH doesn't. I might get in touch with them and see what's happening.

The main page shows as £100. However, if you look at the table in the FAQ the cashback shows as £75 for this model.

Too scared to take SLR when having a beer at night on a city break. Hope this baby won't get left behind as will fit in a jacket pocket. :sunglasses:
For those buying this I always found my MK1 a little slippy/tricky to hold. I then bough the AG-R2 Grip which is a stick on rubber grip. Makes the camera feel a lot more comfortable to hold. There's a few of these available in Amazon Marketplace with 20% discount bringing it down to £8.66.
