Since when is paying upfront at £10 more than RRP and then having to wait for stock to come in a "deal" ??

At the prices they charge in store i am not suprised. They are the Currys, Halfords, B&Q, HMV of the video game world (Basically this is my way of saying they markup massively versus the internet equivalent price).

Most of the problems since the launch of the pre-order have been retailer related. Sort your sites out! How hard is it to input x amount of stock into your system? Glad i've got mine locked down.

If it's anything like the NES mini then a lot of people will be quite happy to buy it for £10 more than RRP.

double check with the highest level of Argos customer service that they're going to honour your order and get a backup gesture of goodwill because with the mini NES it never actually went in stock online.

they may not be the cheapest but they're still trading so they still have a market share, if they were that terrible they'd be out of business completely and forever

I grew up on Nes, Snes, Mega Drive, Mastersystem.... I honestly don't see what the allure is with going back to what is now historic tech and it's far from a "deal" I'm surprised there aren't people bringing the Penny Farthing back into production to make a mint off gullible hipsters buying this junk

21 nearly 30 year old games for £80 and no way to add more, come on Nintendo its 2017. My mistake 20 + 1 games.
JohnnyRoller
5 Jul 17#30
On a serious note, why do people come on to a deal they have no interest in and comment the same rubbish?
People will buy this for the same reason they buy virtual console games. Nostalgia and the fact they actually enjoy these games. The other people who buy it (70%+) will buy it to sell for profit.
Many people buy SNES games for £4+ each on the Wii U virtual console. This would mean for all the games, 2 controllers and a separate console £69.99 - £79.99 is a great price.
I'm sure they'll be a Nintendo Switch deal you can moan about soon enough.

For £60 you can buy a raspberry Pi, install the retropie software and get snes, nes, mega drive, master system, Atari you name it, expand as much as you like

For those that keep asking why do people want to buy this when there are emulators etc? It's comes with a game that has never been released anywhere ever. Star fox 2.

Not quite instant, but you could setup an RSS reader to notify you, and set it to check frequently. However, it might use a bunch of power and data. Perhaps you could do something with a PC checking with an RSS feeder, and then setup something like IFTTT to notify you if certain things come up maybe.

It's the reason I want one but you are right. Most of the purchases are opportunists looking to rip people off. Hope Nintendo do as promised and make tons of these.

There are roms of it all over the place, plus if this version is any different to those it'll be leaked within a week of release if not the same day.
People are simply buying it out of nostalgia, same as the NES mini.

Loved the SNES but it is missing some vital SNES games for my liking, better off buying a Raspberry Pi, installing Retropie and having thousands of SNES, NES, Master System, Mega Drive, N64, PS1 games at your disposal. Worth a buy as a collectors item and maybe selling on in a few years, as a retro gaming console there are definitely better options out there.

Disagree with all these people talking about emulators - they seem to miss the point of the authenticity of an official device, the nostalgia of it not being a hacked thing and the pads being official and not those crappy £2 knock off USB 'SNES' pads.
If you want to get a Pi and spend time tinkering about with it and get your own ROMs then great - in terms of cost, the hardware in total if you factor in the Pi, Memory card, cables and the pads isnt much of a discount. Add to that the time to set it up, find and download and load the ROMS vs. an out of the box, cool looking device with things ready to go and you have 2 very different propositions.
And before anyone hates, Ive got a Pi. But this is something different. Its actual cool nostalgia for me :-)

Lots of people seem to go on about Raspberry Pi. I have an Android tablet with loads of emulators on and I use a Bluetooth controller. Is Pi better than that?
Daley87
7 Jul 17#48
Look up Retropie on YouTube, Android with emulators on a tablet is great for on the go but if you want something to just stay at home plugged into the TV then I'd get a Pi.

If this SNES classic was actual SNES hardware (albeit slightly upgraded) with the ability to play SNES cartirdges then I'd be all over it but it's not.... You say you disagree with the people talking about emulators? Out of curiosity what do you think the SNES classic is? It's a little Linux box running an emulator in a great looking Nintendo case, that's all it is. As for pads on the Pi, as you own one I'm sure you'll know you can use pretty much any official pad from any generation with a USB adapter, I use 2 PS1 Analog controllers with mine that I had lying around with a £2.50 adapter off eBay. So cost wise, a Pi 3, official case, official power supply, 16GB class 10 micro SD and PS1 adapter cost me around £50, don't get me wrong I love the look of these but with only 21 games (maybe more if they get hacked) it's just a little steep for a single emulator in a plastic box.

If people want to buy this, that is up to them, all I am saying is, you can pay £60 for a raspberry Pi, and you can have the equivalent of a snes, nes, master system, mega drive, Atari, ps1, and various arcade games.....if you wanted to

I completely understand your point - but what I am saying is, that this is Official Nintendo, plug n play out of the box and no need for the Apple style adapter and dongle-geddon.
If you want to simple play retro games and dont care about the full authentic experience then Pi / PC / Tablet emulators, some USB pads and adapters are of course the way to go. If you want a collectable, official product with official pads that is an all in one unit without any DIY, this is absolutely worth the money.

They may not be out of business yet but I seriously doubt it's their gaming stock that's keeping them in profit. Didn't HMV nearly go bust like 2 years ago
