Was speaking with sky retentions last night and was offered this to join Sky broadband....

I took the deal there and then as I have already done my checks to see which company has the best price for fibre and right now has to be sky.

Pay less than this for Virgin 200mbps, TV & calls. Virgin retentions dept must use a lot of laxatives

Don't bother looking at national reviews. Broadband speed is very local. Ask your neighbours and people in your local area what they have and what speed they get. I'm on sky fiber max and get 55 download and 16 upload. I think it's brilliant.

I have no idea you wangled this. I've just tried they told me they cannot discount line rental at all and that my broadband is already half price. They tried to compensate by discounting the broadband further, but computer said no.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

How didi you get that? My Sky contract is up and so I phoned up asking for a better deal and they were rubbish. The best they could offer me was £29-50 for non-fibre broadband and full price anytime calls package. They didn't seem to care if I go or not, so I'm going.

Just ditched sky... liked it too but went crawling back to virgin media as I missed the speed but lately VM has been totally broken in my area for several weeks.
Am due for disconnection on Monday... nobody called... nobody offered a cheaper deal. Any suggestions ? I'd like to keep sky but not at £28 a month for only 40mbit.

Try £35.50/month for standard speed broadband and line rental alone. Don't even use a home phone or tv, shocking!
Im hoping they'll honour Fibre Max Unltd at an equivalent price as I have been really happy with Sky in terms of reliability and service, just more fool me for continuing to pay over-inflated rates for the standard kit.

You can ditch the box completely and use a hacked Huawei HG612 VDSL modem you will still need to use another router as it's literally just a modem (no wifi etc) but you get an ethernet port and crucially... a real IP. The sky router hands out 192.168.0.0/24 addresses and you cannot put it into modem only mode. Sky say you aren't allowed, but they don't care. Just be sure to plug the old sky box back in if you need to call tech support (to be told to switch it off and on again naturally.)

Nice, that's less than I'm paying for 38mb since they put the line rental up. Will have to give them a call, thanks for the heads up.

This will make you laugh, well some of you at least. I work with a guy who at 44 years old still lives with his mum, has no internet access as he has no pc etc and pays Sky north of £100 a month just for his telly and has been with them since the start....he has all the HD packages and a non HD panel lol.....despite trying to convince him to give them a ring to reduce it he seems happy to keep paying, you just can't help some people hey! :-)

Maybe he will change his mind about calling them if you show him this screenshot from the following thread posted earlier today:
I concur. As much as I'm a bit reluctant to give them credit (their customer service and some of their policies are a bit sinister), I must admit that I generally exceed the advertised 200Mbps download speeds.
Naturally, depending on where I am in the house and which device I'm using, getting that speed on a wireless device isn't always going to be consistent but that's expected. The devices I have connected via Ethernet, and that I can test with a speed tester, get between 205-215Mbps.

The Sky Q router I they provided me with was absolute rubbish and I believe (from what i've been told but don't know if true) that the insides are oldish Netgear tech, they provided me the 'Q' router to replace the much under performing Sky Fibre hub that was already in place.
Got fed up with it all and threatened to quit so they adjusted my rolling contract to 38 mb U/L, line rental with E & W/E calls and the smallest Sky package for £26.26 per month.
My advice would be to get your own router, Sky don't like or recommend this but the user experience for me has been vastly improved. My issue was with the wi-fi range getting no further than the end of my nose so Plex and Netflix etc became impossible to watch which is what took me to the point of cancellation.
I purchased and installed a TP-LINK AC 1900 VDSL 2 and my D/L speed is now regularly 50 mb which has gone up from 30 mb on a 38 mb connection and the wi-fi range has gone from 8-10 feet to in excess of 100 feet which is great as I can now sit undisturbed in the summerhouse at the bottom of the garden :-)
A lot of people are under the impression that it is against the terms of usage but it is not. By installing your own router the only thing you do is to forgo any technical help which is sorted by re-installing your old router should it be necessary.

I completely agree. While I don't have Sky Fibre at the moment and haven't used the Sky Q router, a few years back, when Sky took over the home broadband business from O2, I was on Sky Fibre Extra. The Sky Hub's performance was pitiful, to say the least. It would've been faster to get my 90 year old granddad to run with the data to and from the various servers than download it via that router.
I eventually ignored the useless tech support at Sky and bought my own TP-LINK router and all was good. I must say though that, after that, the performance of the Internet was solid and I consistently got the advertised 76-80 Mbps whenever I checked.

So just to clear up your tv contract was up and you called the retentions team who offered you a fibre package???
The boat im in is that we have sky tv under the mrs name and internet under mine, the internet is now up so i was just looking around through cashback sites etc and best offer looking online was with BT.
Would love to get his deal though....any ideas?

I would just call Sky and tell them straight up the situation and say you want this deal and see where that takes you; you've nothing to lose.
Every year, when my Sky TV contract is up, I call up Sky and always manage to bag myself either a 50% or 60% discount.
Earlier this year, I was moving house but still had 2 months left on my contract and discount. I wanted Sky Q at the new place but didn't want to pay the price advertised online. Sky was offering a free TV with Sky Q, etc for new customers only.
I called Sky and told them I'm moving address and want a new package with a 50-60% discount and Sky Q. They gave me just that! 50% of Sky Q with multi room and the 2TB box with the Box Sets package. I asked for the free TV too but I know that was pushing it; I didn't get it  .
When I called, I just let them know that I have Virgin Media broadband and so I was inclined to go with Virgin TV at the new place because "I liked the features of their box better". That helped persuade them. I'm sure the reverse will work if you tell them you want to bring business to them.
If you don't ask, you don't get... that's my motto in life.

plusnet are doing 24.99 38meg 29.99 76 meg for a 12 month contract with free activation with phone line included in that price so not far off this deal and id rather be with plusnet than sky. https://www.plus.net/home-broadband/fibre/

Decent deal. I renewed my broadband with BT a few months ago on a 24 month contract (they put their prices up every year so it’s not really an issue as I can renegotiate then) otherwise I would happily switch to this.

I used to be with Sky for their broadband - it was rubbish and their customer service - even though fully fledged UK and very nice on the phone, couldn't solve a problem if they had the solution right in front of them. I switched to Plusnet for their fibre and they have been fantastic. In over 2 years never had any downtime and my speed has been constant. Further, I just moved my landline over to them and now I pay £25 a month inclusive of landline and 55mbs/9mbs unlimited fibre and it comes with free weekend calls and voicemail and caller ID (99p a month of the £25 is attributable to the caller Id).

Do you get the 200mbps? Did you see Watchdog earlier this week? Just curiou, not having a go as I am not in Virgin area for cable... BT or sky (via BT) for me. I get about 36 meg on normal unlimted fibre, but I am close to the exchange. I did wonder about their max fibre, but would I really get the max?

I've been on the BT fibre product for about 3 years on the 80mb package. I was getting full (line sync) speed at first but then it slowly dropped and I now get a fairly constant 60mb.
I know BT are not the cheapest, but I am a seriously heavy user and have to say that the reliability and speed have been very good. As such, I'm reluctant to switch knowing that a rival product could not be any better.
