These are great for the PS4. Speeds up some stuff and games you play regularly load faster. It's no ssd but the next best thing.

As a storage device it's fine but don't let the 'hybrid' moniker fool you - they claim it's somewhere in between a pure HDD and SSD but it's much closer to a hard disk and has all the extra bugs/nuances that you probably hadn't thought of.

Consumer 4K resolution is actually 3840 × 2160, what you're quoting is DCI 4K resolution which is the motion picture standard. Either way they're calling it 4K based on the horizontal rather than vertical resolution, so yeah it is daft but it's all marketing.

Interesting, shame they made the process so difficult, would have thought they would have learned their lesson from the 360 days. Not even like they sell internal hdd replacements so no benefit from it being so tricky to them either. Still might give it a go if these ever come down to this price again. If you have any links to a guide or youtube video of it I'd be interested to take a look see if it's something I could do. If it makes any difference, I have the One S....
First thing I looked at when I got a One and just decided it was simpler to use USB3 as the bus on the internal is only SATA2 anyway (for the OG One, went to 3 for the S).
Also lies the reports of bricks after updates and banning etc. Stick to the externals TBH.
Digital foundry did a review on these and said they were really good for increasing boot times on PS4s (/pros) but you need to load the game a few times first to get it put into cache

So an application like Norton Ghost wouldn't clone the boot sectors?
I can't confirm, I haven't tried it personally on a console drive. I know in the past I've cloned drives, but for Windows purposes.

Xbox One drive, much like the Xbox 360, has specific boot sectors that are required for the console to work with it. These do not clone with the contents of the drive so that would unfortunately not work.

I would be curious as to what cloning the drive would do. As in, take the drive out of an xboxone and clone the entire thing. I don't own either PS4 nor XboxOne, but if I did I would probably try and fit them with this as its an SSHD with more storage over HDD.

Heated, amazing price. I paid more than this mere months ago for a Amazon Warehouse version of this, wish I had hung on now :disappointed: Still considering another though not really sure what i'd do with it. Would love to put one in my Xbox One S but I'm not sure if Xbox Ones can have their internal storage upgraded?
I know I could use it as an external for the Xbox One but I suspect it's performance would be blunted a bit by that USB3 interface and I'd really like to raise the internal storage over the paltry 500GB included....

I can't say if its true or not, I would imagine it is if it states. It's not the reason I bought it though.
I don't think its compatibility with a PS4 should be something to put you off the deal if you need a drive. xD

It's handy to know as PS4s don't take all 2.5" drives ( 'fat' ones over 9.5mm won't fit without modification). Plus if they left that info out the listing would quickly turn into a deluge of questions asking "if this will fit in my PS4", still might though as if there is one thing I know from occasional eBay selling, people are notorious for not reading the product listing properly. If Amazon really wanted to push it they could have even said recommended for PS4 and various sources including digital foundry do recommend this specific drive for use in PS4.
I have one in my PS4 Pro and it works very well, no complaints at all....

About £10-15 cheaper than usual price.
I have this in my Ps4 pro, wanted more storage and the intelligent way it moves regularly used files into the flash storage for fast access times.
Overall I'm very happy with it, and much cheaper than 2tb ssd.
Ah, you've actually made me feel better about my upgrade. It was upgrading my secondary drive (1TB 3.5'' Mechanical), and I don't "really" need it because Windows + other programs are installed on an SSD. I never considered it would be saving me power aswell!

5 year warranty? Seriously? That's nice, makes these about £25 cheaper than a 3.5" 2TB drive with 5 year warranty, so I'm seriously tempted to pick up some for a NAS. As an added bonus the reduced size would be better for stacking and reduced power consumption would pay for itself in 24/7 usage (by my maths about 6W difference pays for itself with 10p/kwh electricity over 5 years with a 100% efficient PSU, optimistic values, it's more like 3W with 15p/kwh and 80% PSU efficiency).

Also after a portable drive for the xbox. Can anyone recommend one? Is there much of an advantage getting an SSHD hybrid like this or should i just go for a standard USB 3 type. It would be for loading on games. Cheers

You would see a performance increase if you were installing/running games from the drive. If you're looking for a portable USB drive there won't be much point if you're just using it to copy data onto your xbox. USB 3 caps at about 5GBps, so it won't be the bottleneck for the current drive.
It's a cheap option, but would work. Those adapters are infinitely useful if you have alot of 2.5 inch drives.

I'm not an expert on these matters. Looks like a good deal but I want an external drive. Anyone know if I could put this in a caddy and connect to USB, and if so whether that is cost effective? EDIT: Have answered my own question just by following link. The answer appears to be yes.

It's not cost effective unless marginal speed gains are worth about £25 to you, otherwise I'd just wait until a deal for a portable HDD at £50 comes up.

Wouldn't have thought there is much benefit using a sshd as an external drive in normal circumstances. 3TB Portable drives are around this price.

What I meant was the marketing blurb suggests that the product is being marketed towards the gullible, or at least the intellectually-challenged
Examples would be the GLUTEN-FREE on a bottle of stupidly-priced water
or
the LOW FAT stickers on bananas priced 60% higher than the same bananas on the stand beside them.
I prefer not to encourage such nonsense.

On a side note, I know what you mean in other instances. A good example would be 4K TV's that (arguably) arn't actually 4k.
1920 x 1080 = 1080p
2560 x 1440 = 1440p
4096 × 2160 = 4k?
Sure its 4 times the amount of pixels, but it doesn't really make sense and would cause confusion should 4xxxp TV's become available. Now EVERYONE has to list them as 4K, because if its not "4k" (even though its the same resolution) people are turned away if it doesn't include that specific phrase/information.
EDIT: On the other hand, if I recieved 500 questions asking if it was compatible (when all 2.5'' drives are compatible) I would probably just end up putting it on my listing so I don't have to deal with the questions lol.
