There is a power connection point here visible below the USB connection point in the Argos Product photos. And the Argos Q&As state that Mains connection is required. My Portable 4TB Maxtor has only the USB3 connection and no such power connection point anywhere.

I had a portable Seagate and after a couple of years use it started to make squeaky noises and then failed. Guess what I had not backed everything up, so the moral of the story is any hard drive making more noise than usual back it up.
It used to be that you installed s large second hard drive which you could back up everything including the operating system Then if a virus hit you could reinstall from the backup
However with ransom ware it now locks and encrypts everything that is attached. So you are better backing up and then detaching the drive.
Thanks OP this deal os tempting to buy, to take out of its case and use as an internal drive to up htage my existing. Decisions, Decisions?

For the "Porsche" Lacie it says 6-7 weeks lead time. which means the items will be shipped on the slow boat from China - so its actually a Trabant made to look like a Porsche. The drives inside both are Seagate ones.

You should pay and collect. This obviously would freeze any price increase. And if you change you mind, Argos refunds money after seven days if you haven't collect your reservation.

I use these as Time Machine backup drives for my Macs, they have been reliable, so far, but a little noisy in terms of vibrations passed through the cabinet to whatever they are sat on (wood, in this case), when lying horizontally (but I should say this is in a very quiet room). I reduced the sound transmission by glueing 5cm of very complient cushion foam to the back of some scrap metal that I had and used that as mats for the Seagates to sit on. They are now just about audible but it doesn't disturb anyone. I know Seagate don't have a brilliant reputation on some models/batches but of the Seagate and Western Digital drives I use, failure rate has been low and about equal.
Anyway, this is around the online ebuyer type price, so good if you want to pick one up on the high street right away. Hot.

27 Jul 17#52
It won't go inside it, though... The drive inside the enclosure is probably a 15mm ST4000LM016 rather than the 9.5mm that the PS4 needs for an internal drive. Just adding it on as external is a lot more painless than fitting a new internal drive though, so probably better going that way anyway. And you'll keep your warranty that way.

I've had similar clicking issues with an external Seagate drive before (followed by death of the said drive). And my replacement Seagate is making occasional clicks now which never bodes well. As for backing up, I'd recommend archived cloud storage (such as CrashPlan) - even if you get Ransomwared, you can just restore from an earlier pre-Ransomware archived version.
All that aside, this is a good deal. Just make sure everything is backed up. Especially if the clicking starts...

Since PS update 4.50 yes you can. The external drive has to be USB 3 and has to connect directly to the PS4. So long as them conditions are met, it will work, this Seagate drive meets them.
