Can anyone kindly tell me if this would work as a media storage/server for Plex? I need bigger hard drives and this looks ideal.

They refused as item had already been dispatched. Amazon seem to be getting increasingly awkward over time

just removing the drive from mine and it's a seagate ST8000DM004 inside. green label with barracuda compute. it doesn't seem to be the archive SMR drive. i'm having a hard time trying to find specs to confirm it's not SMR
amazon currently have the bare drive listed at £368!
i found the seagate ST8000DM005 (5 on end instead of 4) on scan for £300. the labe is slightly difference as instead of saying 8tb in large letters theres a lot of small text on the drive i have but the green label part is the same
has anyone else opened theres and checked? it did seem to copy over pretty fast via usb3

This what you need? Hope it helps.
Mine also came as just the cellophane wrapped products themselves with an address stuck to them. I'm guessing it's because with Prime, Amazon use their own delivery service now, and were just trying to cut down on packaging. So at the end of the day, if anything does get damaged in transit it's all Amazon's fault, they can't blame a courier for it. This, and the fact that the item is clearly something that could be broken probably meant there was even less chance the driver would get complacent handling it. So personally I don't mind how it came, none of the boxes were dented in the slightest, and if they were or it arrived broken they'd just be going back. Of course, if I'd ordered something embarrassing and it came like that, I'd probably not be happy. lol  :joy:
Which reminds me, I should probably test that mine work.

If you do, let us know how you got on and if they offered anything as way of a gesture. I too was not particularly happy that hard drive was sent like that given it's nature.

What's this extra Seagate packaging people are taliking about?
Mine just had my address label stuck onto the normal white box and that was it. I was shocked whe I saw it.
Might complain about it to them

Mine were sealed and in Seagate packaging to, Im talking about extra retailer packaging

I had two arrive via Prime now - both were boxed and sealed in proper seagate packaging.

Absolutely.
I'm not happy at all about it. A Seagate drive that has been thrown all over during the delivery process with no protection at all does not fill me with confidence.

They shouldn't have that as the default or even as a possibility imo.

This generally happens when you see the below on the product listing, as it does here:
"This item's packaging will indicate what is inside. To cover it, select Dispatch in Amazon box on the checkout page."

I am not here to make any difference to what happened in the past with this hard drive at all. I am here to sort out a different order which they need proof of for this as I asked about this and they confused the 2 subjects up. I sent them my order numbers, never had an issue with them before but they constantly refuse to help me without sorting out the hard drive question I asked first.

Can someone send me a screenshot of the 8TB hard drive being £119.99 either the product page/listing or the final order please because Amazon representative said it was was £189.99 for the past 3 days and only the 4TB was £119.99

13 Jul 17#31
Like I said, it won't make any difference as it has been £189.99 for the past 3 days. A Lightning Deal is not a price reduction so it will neither show up as one in their price history, nor will they accept a screenshot showing the price clearly labelled as a Lightning Deal as proof of said reduction. When a Lightning Deal is on, you still have the option to buy at full price instead or as well.
If they are confused about two orders, you need to give them the order numbers, they must be able to see what orders you have placed the same as you can.

It's because Amazon are confused and are arguing back to me saying that it's been £189.99 for the past 3 days with no price change. They won't offer me a voucher otherwise (for a different order, not this. I called up about 2 orders and they seemed to be confused)

I am not sure what you want it for, but I doubt it will do you any good. It was a Lightning Deal for Prime Day and limited to one per customer. So if you are trying to get them to refund the difference on a previous order or similar, they won't as this wasn't a general price reduction.

Did anyone else get theirs delivered without an outer box? Amazon rarely get packaging correct, so very often they go over board or in this case ship hard drives with no extra protection.

I ordered one around 1am and it says it will be delivered tomorrow but has been stuck on 'arriving tomorrow, dispatching now' for a few hours. Is this normal?
I started a free 30 day prime trial for this order.

Mines just arrived - Manchester area and it is indeed the 8tb model. It must be a misprice as on the main site it's the 4tb one that is this price.

I know what Prime Now is but I've just looked and it's not on the app unfortunately. Stock varies from area to area but I can't even see it on the Newcastle PrimeNow region.

Prime Now is the 2 hour delivery thing in the bigger cities, just got an order in myself. I'd missed out on the main site and don't live in a Now area, but my brother does so I'll pick it up next time I see him, worth the wait for how good the deal is. If you can do it you can also get an extra £10 of using the 10NOW40 code.

6TB model going to be discounted at 5.30pm, if anyone missed out. Hopefully it maintains the the TB to £ ratio, probably slightly more expensive.

I never understand these comments. Buy 2x 8TB then. You always need a backup of important data regardless of drive manufacturer.

Besides each drive has a different failure rate.
