I don't understand the appeal of Ray Ban glasses. Paying a big premium to have a brands logo on the lens?

I have just ordered. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Doesn't adding the polarised option add about £50. Getting the polarised version for £58 would be a bit of a stretch surely?

They've got the RB3445's in too which are a really nice pair of shades as the wayfarers only suit certain face shapes.
This site is not an offical reseller according to the UK Ray-Ban website "THE WEBSITE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS NOT CURRENTLY PART OF OUR CERTIFIED RESELLER LIST. THIS DATABASE IS CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CHECK BACK AT A LATER DATE" I am not saying they are fakes...but

This is one of the most reputable companies in the UK, they are real.
They are clearly getting rid of slow moving stock, their typical customers wouldnt be buying ray bans

No they don't, they used to be owned by Bausch and Lomb but this stopped in 1999. Luxottica own and manufacture them now. Still good quality though.

not necessarily true, some people prefer to have non polarised lenses. Try using your phone as a sat nav wearing polarised sunglasses
I speak from experience as it is difficult to see a phone screen wearing polarised lenses (we are virtually glued to looking at phones nowadays).

1 Aug 17#27
Do they still use B&L lenses? I thought they were the old ones - even so these are quality optical lenses and will protect your eyes polarized or not. I've had a few pairs and some of the best sun glasses I've ever had - these are well worth the money - just look after them and use a few years.

Fair enough, I didn't realise.....learned something today! Actually I am a huge fan of Revo glasses, the lens technology is incredible, so comfortable to wear for sensitive eyes. A brand barely heard of in the UK, Italian made and big in the USA. If you ever see them, try a pair, you will be amazed! Anyway, I seem to have wondered off topic! :relaxed:
Anomaly84
1 Aug 17#28
That's exactly what you're saying, and do you really think a large UK company would be selling fake stock? Nope.
As for all the 'you're paying for a logo' comments, maybe so, but is that not the case with all fashion/consumer items? When you buy a pair of Nike trainers, you're paying extra for the logo/brand, same for when you buy a Samsung TV, armani jeans etc etc.
TomScrut to Anomaly84

I'd say it depends on whether there is an improvement in quality. Fashionable clothes are very much pay for the name IMO, even though a lot of them are of a higher quality than cheap makes there are a lot of other clothes that can be bought without being stupidly expensive that are of a high quality. OTOH Nike trainers may be better than a pair of unbranded trainers, they wont turn you into Mo Farah but may make your feet more comfortable during/after a run. Most Samsung, Panasonic, Sony and LG TVs are better (in terms of image quality, features etc) than most of the cheaper brands. As far as sunglasses are concerned I have several pairs of Oakleys and a pair of Ray Bans and I wouldn't want cheaper ones unless I couldn't afford the better brands, the lenses are better (or at least compared to when I last wore a cheaper pair of sunglasses). Oddly enough I briefly compared my polarized Oakleys to some polarized cheaper glasses last week and there was a lot more glare from a river with the cheaper pair, so even the polarization isn't the same.
Some things you get what you pay for, some you don't or pay over the odds for the improvement. Its all a matter of opinion and affordability whether its worth it.

The site says "one size" but there is two different sizes for the RB2132: 52mm and 55mm. A roll of the dice which one they are trying to shift.
I have two pairs of these, both reglazed with a prescription. Excellent hard-wearing frames, the most comfortable and the best I've had in 20+ years of wearing specs. Would have snapped up another pair if I could be sure they were 55mm.

Polarised lenses have advantages and disadvantages which is why it's common to own a pair of polarised and non-polarised sunglasses.

I would hope for the price of a pair of branded trainers or a Samsung TV the technology would be modern / state of the art. Jeans the latest style/cut.... Sunglasses are odd in this regards as Wayfarers are no different to pairs they've been making for 50 years and somehow they still manage to charge a premium.. fashion I suppose
Decent price nonetheless,, I got some off Amazon a couple of years ago for £40.. was happy enough to pay that

If you want glass for skiing you really don't want polarised because if there is some shiny ice polarised glasses completely block that light making it rather hazardous. Same as driving in the sun after its been raining, polarised glasses place out the shine from the top of any pools of water so you don't see then as well as non polarised glasses. These sunglasses will probably have G15 less s. G = very slightly green and 15 = 15% of visible light let through.

All those saying "you can get the same glasses without the name for £10" have clearly never worn the better quality ones, I agree there's a certain amount of cost attached to the brand name, but there's also a difference in quality, of the frames and the lens.

RayBan use Bosch & Laumb lenses (polarised or non), and that is what you are paying for, not just the brand. PS: Grabbed the Aviators which are polarised, bargain price!

1 Aug 17#47
A pretty ill-informed statement because firstly, the name is Bausch & Lomb and secondly, even posh-sounding branded non-polarised lenses offer no more UV protection than a cheap £3 pair of Primark sunglasses lenses so don't fall for that old chestnut.
draeburn to Robbo11
2 Aug 17#58
Well done, you are correct it is indeed Bausch, not Bosch.....although it was autocorrect that made the change which I didn't notice. Furthermore, you'll see that someone already pointed out that RayBan are no longer associated with BAUSCH & Lomb any more.
However, it seems you are agreeing with my general point which is the quality of the lenses is more important than the fact they are polarised or not, and that you pay a premium for the lens quality.

Not received an OOS message but mine still says "processing" :rage: Won't be using this site again, if they fail to deliver. Shouldn't be selling goods they don't stock, especially promoting them in a sale like this. The sunglasses will probably be fake if they are sourcing them from somewhere which isn't an authorised dealer.

I wrote to them and the reply was that they had limited stock and the sales over took the stock reported on the website. They tried to source the remaining pairs from their shops, but in the end didn't have enough to satisfy all the orders. Not a brilliant response but I guess there is not much more they can do. I don't think there was ever a question of fake supplies to be fair....
