For everyday use or casual non fps gaming id say it's the best value for money in the rat range, for purely fps gaming I'd go for the rat4 it's slightly cheaper (although made of plastic not aluminium) but will offer more consistent tracking. However if i was buying a gaming mouse right now I'd go for the Logitech g403, it is nearly twice the price though. The steel series rival 100 is on offer at the moment for 18 which has a good sensor but the build quality is questionable with a lot of reviews saying the buttons are prone to breaking. So you pays your money and takes your choice. All other things aside its down to comfort IMO so start with ones that have a shape that's good for you. Good luck
Mad Catz filed for voluntary bankruptcy earlier in the year so if you want to get the superb rat6, get it now...

For some reason my dash button discount applied to this from prime day so got it for £20 bargain! Thanks op

For the sensor snobs this rocks the Pixart ADNS9800 laser sensor, not the better optical Pixart PMW3310 on the 4 or Pixart PMW3360 on the 8. And I use the term 'better' loosely as it only applies to the inconsistent acceleration of the mouse, if you don't care about this or value other things like lift off distance, tracking on glass or shiney surfaces then the 6 may be the better mouse especially at this price.

Hope it is better quality than the Mad Catz R.A.T. PRO S model..i picked it up for £20 on amazon last year ,reduced from £60, i still feel cheated.plastic, feather like weight, horrible and no longer works after a year.

It is much much better. The pro has an adjustable palm rest and only 8 macro buttons compared to the rat6 11 macro buttons. However the price has now increased

Still on the fence here with this..... tough as you can pick up a G602 for £37 (used) on amazon. I need a mouse as the middle click is finnicky on my (2007!!!!!!) Microsoft Sidewinder (best mouse I've ever owned.... keep going back to it).
