Just bought a new house and the garden is a mess with leaves everywhere! Hoping this will help, it's a good brand, good reviews, and its an excellent price.

Never blown or sucked a leaf in all the years I've had a garden.
There is no leaf mountain at my door so someone must have dealt with the leaves on my behalf.

Are these things any good for pine needles?

Looks like a rebranded version of THIS SCREWFIX ONE which I have. The inlet to the bag gets blocked up fairly easily but apart from that its not bad.

Bit of a contradiction to write "qualcast" then also write "good brand"

God dammit. I just bought one that's not as good as this. Heat for great deal.

I've got one of these and the motor burnt out within a month! I swapped it for new one. Its not bad but don't over work it as you are risking the motor. Don't be tempted to suck too much up at once either or it will be blocked and you have to unscrew the front tube off and unblock it. I think I only have one screw in mine because it needs unblocking quite frequently! I have beech trees and hedges so it sucks up all the nut shells and twig. The twigs cause a blockage.

Interesting about homebase and argos having the ability to use qualcast on there on brands

Exactly. Beware of brand prostitution. Before parting with the money, check which brands are still genuine & which are just badges renting themselves out to anyone.

No.
I live in a posh area with lots of trees.
Leaves disappear on their own.
No leaf sucking or blowing necessary.
Unless you are bored and want something to do.
Which is probably why the average purchaser of a leaf blower/sucker is an OAP with time on their hands.
