Did the 2 use limit for the 5% discount only come in recently? I swear I've used it like 10 times in the past year and it won't work when I try it with Overwatch

Have a few friends who keep telling me to get this but the cartoony aspect really puts me off along with all the powers and stuff the characters have.
What is the main draw for this game? Is it like TF2?

Nah, Much better than TF2 IMO. I'm in the same boat as you. I much prefer realistic style shooters but this game is bang on. Very well balanced and super fun to play. Especially with friends. Have you played Paladins? It's a free to play game which is very similar (some might say a blatant copy). Give that a blast and if you fancy a more polished version of that then go for Overwatch.

I thought the same, and since I've played most big FPS games but never actually been captivated by online play in any of them I totally ignored the game. Till last week after getting sucked into Hearthstone and realising how great Blizzard actually are at super satisfying gameplay that works in convenient bursts but has infinite replay value.
If TF2 stands out as kinda unique because each of the 'classes' / characters play quite differently, Overwatch is that amped up to eleven.
Each of the current 24 (soon 25) Heroes play very differently and in a way that they're all really really fun to play. Tracer, for example, zips around the map in bursts of teleport / temporal fracture and if you get damaged you can rewind time by five seconds to recover and get out of the way of the enemy, just to zip behind them and take them out with your dual wielding automatic handguns.
There's the cyborg ninja that throws shuriken, and can slice others and deflect bullets with his sword, or the samurai archer than shoots regular sniping and ricocheting arrows, beacons that show you the enemy through walls, or even dragon spirits. A reaper that dual wields shotguns, turns into mist, also teleports, and can launch a tornado of bullets killing everyone around you. A walking turret robot that can repair itself and turn into a tank. A lady that spends most of her time flying around the sky launching rockets and missiles at unsuspecting victims. A floating Zen robot that charges and launches a number of balls of energy, applies regen buffs to friends, debuffs enemies and goes into a period of enlightenment that makes teammates in range practically invulnerable for a short time. The hacker with teleporting mine/beacons to jump in and out of assault position, invisibility and can shut down other people's abilities and health points. The centaur machine that shoots bullets, shields, and and gravity pulses. The sniper who grapple hooks around the the place and whose gun switches to and from an assault rifle in an instant, chucks poison mines and can reveal everyone on the map. The other sniper than shoots healing bullets, buff bullets, and sleeping darts. The angel that heals, buffs, revives, etc. The ape that launches himself into the air, has a powerful barrier, and smashes people with a massive hammer. The flashbang throwing trigger-happy gunslinger, the turret builder, the demolitions expert... and loads and load of others.
So yeah... it's much more than TF2. If you're tired of the typical shooter or don't mind trying something new, jump in and you'll be hooked.
Either Overwatch is gonna stick around as the big shooter for years to come or 'hero' shooters in general are going to be huge because the range and variation diversifies the experience massively - it's almost like adding the experience of a fighting game with all unique characters and playstyles to an FPS. It's also not at all about K:D or doing something perfectly, but about making you feel awesome and like your accomplishing something all the time.
