I don't perceive that as a weakness and I am well aware of how the technology works. This is my point, there is no grace in the use of rechargeables in devices that report on the battery capacity (Although usually said devices report on voltage and not capacity).
I keep forgetting this is HotUKdeals. FWIW I built my own battery analyser and I found the Ikea brand to be a better £/mAh than the Kodak brand...

What you perceive to be a weakness of rechargeable is actually one of their main strengths. Batteries don't "report" their capacity, the devices measure the voltage. Alkaline batteries decrease in voltage from the start and just get lower and lower. NIMH batteries maintain a decent voltage for most of their capacity and then drop off quickly. You may find this inconvenient for something like a TV remote but that actual usable life from a NIMH charge is much greater than you'll get from an alkaline, especially in higher drain devices like toys.
A decent rechargeable battery like a Sanyo Eneloop can sustain an impressive 10 amp discharge rate, unthinkable for an Alkaline battery.
If you must buy alkaline then the Kodak branded ones in poundland are about the best value for money out there in terms of capacity per pound spent and the Fusionmax branded ones also found in poundland outperform even duracell in terms of capacity although you only get 4 per pack instead of 6 Kodak.

Afaik You will get better results when You charge Your alkaline batteries when they are not completly drained out - more mAh left, bigger capacity You can get. I usually get about 5-10 charges on kodak's alkaline from poundland, before they get useless. To avoid any unwanted accidents I strongly suggest to use intelligent charger, which monitor every single battery and stops when needed. "Alkaline charger" starts under a tenner on ebay.

Rechargeables with low self discharge are way better value. I think alkalines are a waste of resources in most cases.

Er, your link demonstrates his point perfectly. He didn't say performance "was the same", but that you will be fine with most alkaline brands as they are "very similar". Pretty much all of the alkaline batteries there are between 1900 and 2100mah - i.e. very similar.

why don't people use rechargable batteries?

I can answer that - I do have rechargeables and lots of different brands, I don't use them any more as they don't report their remaining capacity correctly and usually drain without and "grace". With Alkaline my (Xbox &Wii) controllers will report they are running low, giving ample opportunity to swap them out - with rechargeable they just stop working without any notification. Same for my camera. I did buy some cheap 600mAh rechargeables and they are in my TiVo remote.Found a few more in my tin opener, Energizer 2400mAh and they had leaked! I have tried recharging alkaline batteries and found I can get some more life out of them (provided they don't get "over-charged" as they start to leak) - usually though they are only useful to use in remotes after they have been "charged". I do use a lot of batteries, I go through about 12 a week. The cheapest rechargeables where the now discontinued "No Nonsense" brand from Screwfix @ 1300mAh

As long as you avoid the very cheap zinc batteries you will be fine with most (alkaline) brands as performance very similar.
This is a good deal.
What I meant though is that most of the wireless mice these days last around 1 - 2 yrs so the batteries would have to be nearly dead to only last a week.

These batteries are whirr poor, as a previous comment mentioned they don't last very long & every time I have useful them they have leaked in the items they've been used in.

er donkeys? righhht okay, not my thing. Looks like your spending too much on that adult farm site.
I use duracell batteries and they last way longer. Granted they cost more but at least I dont have to change them every week. Besides its not like I'm doing gaming with the mouse, just general browsing.

So long as you get alkaline most of the cheaper brands are the same, even against the top brands like Duracell they're only about 20% down on power.
Never buy zinc batteries
