Panasonic Lumix GX800, in black. Now £399 at Jessops. Use the code WEEKENDSAVE to take £30 off. Also available in silver, but WEEKENDSAVE only takes £20 off, so £379. Or in tan, but the code doesn't work, so it is £399. Better buying it from Currys for £379 if you want the tan colour.
Plus you can claim £30 cashback from Panasonic. promotions.panasonic.co.uk/pro…206 Also 100 free prints from Jessops with the black model.
This is one of the smallest and lightest mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras available. And it includes a neat little zoom lens. Much smaller than a DSLR. It has a flip up screen, handy for selfies, or low down shots etc. It can do 4K video at 30fps, and some nice features for 4K photos. It is Micro 4/3, so there's a range a of extra lenses available, from both Panasonic and Olympus.
Note its also known as the GF9 or GX850, if you're looking for reviews.

Same as a few of the previous comments very little experience with a Camera looking for something entry level for when i go travelling and hiking... any recommendations? was also looking at the Nikon D3400
In general all the mirrorless camera have been a bit pricier than the entry DSLR

You also need to look at what lenses you'll want/need as well as size/weight. There's not always a huge difference in the weight between some of the more substantial m43 bodies and the cheap dslr offerings, but biggest weight savings come when you compare lenses. I hardly used my Canon when I was hiking (too much effort to keep stopping to take it out of my pack) and it wasnt practical to have it out all the time, but my GX80 fits in a case attached to the chest harness of whatever pack I use and it's always there when I need it

Yes, I saw this earlier. Very annoying - for me! Bought the camera last weekend from Jessops for £369, along with the 25mm f1.7.

Guys, please don't get mixed up with the Gx80 which has a viewfinder and in body 5 axis stabilisation. It also has cashback, £100 with the lens version on amazon, so around £419 with cashback and like £379 without the lens with the cashback included.
Same here. I probably take 90% of my photos using it so a must have for me.

The Wex price is misleading - that is £369 after cashback. ie you actually have to pay £399, then claim £30 from Panasonic. Whereas Jessops is actually £369, plus you can get £30 cashback as well.

That was my thinking but I also want the best value for money. My budget is between £300 - £400 so I've got quite a few options. I don't have much experience but I do want to get into photography more hence looking at the interchangeable lenses.

Better off buying a cheap camera and spending more on quality lenses, but £300-£400 isn't going to get a decent camera kit, you will get an average bridge camera for that mone. My advice would be to get a cheap DSLR like a Nikon and their 28-300mm lens, your looking at about £1000 though. Cheapest cameras are found using this site camerapricebuster.co.uk/Nik…LRs

My counter to that is that this body is the latest generation with the tech that comes with it and the kit lens you get is top drawer. Unless you really need constant aperture zooms (like the 2.8's) you can get very good glass for very little. Their 35-100mm and 20mm 1.7 can be picked up for around £130 with grey imports or used. For someone starting out, that set up covers a huge range of focal lengths and gives you some fast glass for low light.

id definitely agree with something like this over a massive dslr and massive superzoom chunk lens for a grand! have seen many great pictures with kit lenses from absically all cameras - as long as your expectations are reasonable then you wont be dissapointed imo

Just a note to potential buyers that this camera (gx800) does not have 'in body stabilisation'.

I have used a GH5 and GX8, didn't get on with them, had the GX8 for a fortnight and GH5 for a weekend. Found the images to be flat, although a good quality image and sharp. So decided against Panasonic, will have a look a Sony next. You pay for what you get.

I'm considering this or any of the base canon/nikon dslr range. What do you guys think? It's going to be used for holiday picks and landscape shots

Depends on what you're going to be shooting, what your budget is, what your skill level is, whether it's a stepping stone to other models etc. That said, if you're looking for a step up from a point and shoot or smartphone then go for it. They're way lighter and more compact than the smallest dslr from those manufacturers so you'd hopefully find you have it with you more than the dslr.

Just noticed that Wex are doing it for 369 and with £50 knocked off the price of the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 of you buy them together. Seems a decent deal.

For those of you wanting to do a bit of research, look for GX850, it's the same camera but for other markets. I picked up a GX85 with this lens at Christmas with pany's ludicrous "double cashback" promo (£200 off) so it only cost me £319. No time machines kicking around so don't worry, I'm not comparing the 2 deals, just that I bought into the m4/3 setup and its great. I'm still not 100% now it compares to my Canon dslr setup, I'll check when I get back from India. Look for the 20mm 1.7 and 35-100 lenses, but super cheap and tiny. On this body you'd have a great little setup! Check out dpreview for people's opinions on it.

Yes, its marketed as a selfie camera, but its still very good for a wide range of photography. The tilt screen is not just for selfies, it can be handy for taking photos at unusual angles. Or taking photos of flowers without crawling on the ground. Or 'shooting from the hip' for street photography.
I think the GX800 is quite similar to the LX100. Both are a similar size and shape, and use the same sort of 4/3" sensor. Though the LX100 doesn't actually use the whole area of the sensor, so it is effectively lower resolution. Big difference is the GX800 has interchangeable lenses. It can be very useful to change to a longer lens for sports or wildlife etc. Or a wide aperture prime lens for portraits. Or an ultra-wide fisheye lens can be fun.
Also at current prices, the GX800 is about £100 cheaper than the LX100. So I think its a good choice, even if you don't want to change lenses. But probably not worth 'upgrading' if you already have an LX100.

I was interested right up until I googled it and saw: "GF9 with 14mm- 42mm Lens (4K Selfie Camera)"
Somehow I don't think this is an upgrade from my LX100 ;D (it probably is, just marketing)

Good deal.
I had a look at this camera Thursday night in John Lewis Oxford St. The price was £379 then. Couldn't decide between the Black or their exclusive Orange version. The Orange 'texture' is much nicer than the tan version which looks a bit cheap.
Thought I'd sleep on it and the price went back up to £399 next morning so I've got them to pricematch Currys. Now don't know whether to go for the Black and save a further tenner from Jessops or the Orange from John Lewis (which would also include a 2 year warranty).
3% Topcashback too at Jessops.
Black would make more sense, as I'm looking for a replacement for my GM1, which I frequently take into concerts - looks just like a 'compact' camera - doesn't get a second glance from security, and then I attach a longer lens once inside the venue.
