No hub required. All through the app. Apparently works with Alexa and the like but I can't confirm that. Good bulb, will try to get BG to price match

Can confirm it works with Alexa/Amazon Echo. I have my house linked up to them. The official Yeelight app is supported by Alexa but you can also link them up with IFTTT

Hue bulbs are Bluetooth. They don't have a WiFi connection. The Hue hub connects via ethernet so no WiFi in the Hue system at all.

Ordered. Apparently works with Home Assistant for your automation needs. HA will work with Alexa but not currently with Google Home as google are being mean (" we don't like aggregation services or private ones, everything must be public and we must directly connect to all your lights")

Several ways of getting HA working with Google Home, just like an Echo. You can also use it just with Assistant on your phone, no extra hardware needed, IFTTT is one of the nicest/easiest to set up.

I bought the white one which works well but I don't like the colour, far too cold. hopefully this as standard is better but if not hopefully making it a little warmer wont reduce the brightness too much

21 Jul 17#11
This will work with Google Home using IFTTT. You can switch it on and off and dim it. The app allows you to change the colour to anything you can think of. Great for an impromptu dance floor

I did ask Yeelight a while ago and they replied saying that they only have E27 and that they have no plans to produce any others.
Thanks. I'm having my house done. Pls can someone answer these questions for me? Can you switch these on and off remotely via the app or change the colours only? 2. Would I be able to link 4 of these bulbs to one app? 3. Is there any added benefit to getting a 'hub' or alexa, etc?
refaey
22 Jul 17#27
I have a few of these at home already and can answer your questions.
1. Yes you can switch them ON/OFF via the app, as well as changing colours, scenes,...etc. Also, the app is NOT the only option to control these, you can also use Alexa (which I use mostly) or for automation you can use IFTTT.
2. Yes the Yeelight app allows you to group them and cotrol them as a group. So you can have 4 in the bedroom, create a group in the app callled "Bedroom" and link the four bulbs to it. The Yeelight app, Alexa and IFTTT can either send commands to the 'Bedroom' group of bulbs, or to individual bulbs.
3. You don't need a hub as these connect directly to the router. However, I would highly recommend Alexa. The only reason I say that is because you need these ON all the time (even if the light is off, they still need to connect to Wifi). If you turn them off (using the light switch) they will still remember your Wifi details and re-connect when you switch them back on, however, if you leave them off for too long, they forget everything and you have to set them up again. The bulbs I have forget wifi details after 1-2 days. Alexa allows you to leave them ON all the time, but switch the light ON/OFF when needed. Alexa, bedroom light ON. Alexa, bedroom light OFF. Alexa, bedroom light red. Alexa, bedroom light dim to 20%, to mention just a few commands :-) - I bought 3 Amazon Echo Dot on prime day for £28 each and will order some more the next time they have a discount. They're really worth the money just for the alarm and online Radio. Also, "Alexa, play death metal on Tune in" keeps the wife away for sometime if you want some peace and tranquility :-)

I'd have to agree you need something like an Echo Dot with these. It's impractical every time you want to turn them on/off to have to turn on your phone's WiFi before using an app, so I just switch them at the wall and only use IFTTT to change the colours between presets I've created. Being switched off at the wall means it takes a while after flicking the switch for them to connect to the WiFi so that I can change colour. I also find if I don't wait a few minutes after changing colour before I switch them off that they lose the new setting and revert to the previous one.

Received mine and ordered a second. It works really well and the app is good (The yeelight app using the Singapore local seems better than the mi home) but I find changing the colours slightly frustrating and think this could probably be better implemented to allow the option to select from a palette of colours because the delay on trying to select from the gradient is a little frustrating and I keep swiping on the wrong part of the screen by mistake.
The Alexa integration is great, she will change colours and dim the lights natively. You can also with a bit more work set her to run scenes on command, the could be some of their built in ones like "Sunrise" or simply a unique colour.
And being able to say "Alexa, Let there be light" has made my year.
What I also really like is that the light can be turned on manually by turning the switch off and back on again, and you can set it to default to whatever you like when you do this. This means that if you set the default to a warm white, anyone is going to be able to turn on your lights, including you if technology plays up.

This deal's still valid and currency fluctuations make it £10.54 at the moment so ordered a second yeelight. First one's a welcome addition to the bedroom, I tend to fluctuate between a bright but warm light and dimmest red with a sleep timer for when I'm trying to sleep or getting up in the night. Haven't figured out Google assistant integration since IFFT now says all the GA to Yeelight stuff is invalid.

If I put it in a ceiling light and don't switch it on for a couple of days, does it lose it's link (so stop working as a smart light) ?

I ordered an Original Xiaomi Yeelight back in 28th of Jul but I haven't received it so far. I contacted earlier (after one month) to Tomtop support via "Customer Service Team " which they asked me to double check with local post office and wait for 45 days in total. But, although, I emailed them again after 45 days, I haven't received any response so far. Disappointed ! :disappointed:
Is there any one has other email from their support team?
I paid it with Monzo, Shall I apply for chargeback?
