I have similar experience. Hart rate monitor is not accurate but battery life is really good as well as other features (vibrating alarm, pedometer - working only when I move:-)

There are apps that can do what you want, I personally went for mi band tools (paid app) you can choose the level of detail you can get, customise vibrations to know which app is notifying you etc.

Has anyone found good replacement bands for this device? I tried a few from bangood but they were terrible and dont have the sane fit and keep coming off my hands while sleeping. :-(

It's only 'showerproof' - rain shower that is. The blurb I've read around these is that they should be used in water. Me too.

Nearly lost mine on a visit to York a few weeks back. Fortunately, it'd dropped off in the car and was still there when I got back.

I'd like a new band for mine too, but would prefer to hear a recommendation first.

I always use PayPal with Chinese sites. Just to be sure.

Ordered from Banggood in the past. No problems with them, just be patient with regards to the delivery time - my last delivery took a month to arrive.

I can highly recommend these devices. For the money, they are excellent value. And the battery lasts absolutely ages. Heat, thanks!

I am no swimmer as such but I am at a health club most days and go in pool, steam, sauna, jacuzzi etc. Cannot bother to take miband off and on all the time and so far it has survived no problem.

Well I say no problem but I bought the white strap to replace the default black one and it went very scruff looking. Otherwise fantastic in every way.

14 Jul 17 #30
why do people expect these to be super accurate? even the expensive ones can be off counting your steps. so long as its no too far off, does it make a difference if you walked 900 steps as opposed to 910?
JayR123
14 Jul 17 #31
How did you manage that when it fits in from the back. I found it almost impossible to take out from the front of the band as the 'hole' is much smaller.

14 Jul 17 #32
Hi, could you provide more details please. Apart from seeing the caller name and number, Message and whatsapp symbols for the respective alerts, can the paid app allow you to read messages?
peterszy
14 Jul 17 #33
reply to superfreddy...I like the lenovo as its a one piece silicone type rubber housing with a buckle and pin watch type fastening. Its NOT waterproof as the charging port is only protected by a push in grommet. I think you can program it to do various things but I haven't bothered, I just monitor walking/sleep/heart rate. either via phone blue tooth or simple mode via the device.
Rushed_89
14 Jul 17 #34
Hey, yes you can read the messages but only in small character bursts so it will break up your message into small chunks and send each chunk as a separate notification. Which if your message is more than a "yes" or "no" isn't really ideal. You can set the paid app mentioned to only send the first chunk of the message so you would at least get a clue as to what the message is if it is longer than the 18 character limit.

You can customise the notifications though, icons, vibration patterns, how much of the notification characters to send etc.

Yes I also hate that Chinese made rubbish like Apple, Samsung, Sony....
Xiaomi are a huge company that have a reputation for very good quality products. Just because they don't sell their products in Europe and you have never heard of them, doesn't mean they are rubbish. I have a ton of Xiaomi products including this fit band and have been more than impressed by them. Oh, and to date, none of them have broken.

ordered. thanks OP. kept on missing out on this deal previously. can it hook up to apps such as runtastic or anything? ive got the 1st gen one and sometimes i'll walk whilst seeing the count on my phone and its very accurate. it has sometimes registered movement when ive been sat on my desk but that's because I was moving my arms just to see if it registered. and it only registered movements from the arm sometimes and not all the times.

for the money, can't knock it and the unofficial app is always highly talked about on this forum.

There is an inner plastic ring stuck to the band that keeps it rigid, once the glue goes then the watch easily pops out from the front. Mine was going great for months, DIY, showers, swimming, rain nothing phased it then went into the sea and the salt water must have damaged the glue, I didn't lose the watch bit, found it on the floor but I need a new band.
mike_freegan
14 Jul 17 #38
I have one of these. The thing is, the heart-rate monitor is useless, and the pedometer isn't any better than just using your phone.

Notifications are OK but intermittent and often notify for old messages which is annoying.
techno12
14 Jul 17 #39
Yeah great band and price. Chuffed with mine and I paid nearly £17.

Xiaomi are now the world's largest 'wearables' company (based on number of shipments Q1 2017), slightly ahead of Apple, and a fair bit in front of Fitbit, so not a Mickey Mouse operation.

Banggood decent as well - sorted problems out in the past for me (wrong item delivered)

I had something similar to this before. Whilst it was okay, it needed to use apps o off the Play store by random devs that just didn't seem trustworthy. With this one, is there an official app? If so, I'm in!

14 Jul 17 #48
Well there's another school of thought that if a product advertises features then you'd expect those features to work as described, otherwise why buy it no matter what price it is cheap as chips or expensive. If it doesn't actually do the job it says it will do and accurately then its just money down the drain and gadget in the bin. Expectation is from the advertising not the price.
ethanchal
14 Jul 17 #49
Wouldn't that interfere with the app pushing out notifications to the band if it can't detect when a notification has come in?
morpheus
14 Jul 17 #50
Got the wife one of these for her birthday and they are great. Saying that, hers lost connection with the phone a few months ago and nothing at all would fix the problem and get it to reconnect. To be fair whichever Chinese retailer I used refunded quickly and the band still worked as a standalone, but it lost call/text notification and app logging of steps which is annoying. So i've ordered her one of these now. Great value for money and easy to get cheap & nice straps for it too.

Thanks for the post OP.

14 Jul 17 #56
I've had one since January and it has been great. I got a black leather strap, and a couple of extra charging leads. All together this cost less than a leather strap for another watch I was looking at.

The battery runs for about a month, and charges up again within a few hours. The step counts are consistent. However, when you connect up to the Android app and Google Fit, they don't always agree. I don't use the heart rate monitor much. I like the notifications. These can vibrate for an alarm, when I have a phone call, or text message (which shows the sender on the screen). You can also set it up to give an alert when other apps have a notification. The screen is a bit dim in bright sunlight, but is otherwise fine.

Had this for three months following the last deal. For the money, it is great value. It can do pretty much anything that you want it to, from being a full on smart watch to just a regular watch. I charge mine once a month and haven't looked back, well worth it at this price, anyone voting cold is mad

Great band, great price. Bought mine from Gearbest. The only thing I would say with Banggood is pay the extra for customs insurance as everything I seem to order with them comes with a customs charge, where as Gearbest doesn't seem to.

14 Jul 17 #62
good price for a decent budget monitor. I have their 1st version Mi band 1 and still works fine although a bit scratched and battered but it doesn't have a display only series of lights. wearing it in water is unwise. Bought a lenovo HW01 as an upgrade a few months ago and its accuracy is far better especially sleep monitoring which seems spot on. Heart rate also on a par with the machines at the gym but battery life is less than a week and it has a proper display. Was slightly more expensive.

Did you take it out from the front to charge by any chance, that's the guaranteed way to have that happen and they added a reminder to the app because a lot of people didn't bother to read the instructions.

£3*500 £1500 and this is top deal!
Gareth79
14 Jul 17 #70
It's IP67 rated, which means it should survive 1 metre of water for 30 minutes, and looking at reviews which tested it, it does survive. That said, I don't know if it's "potted" with silicone type stuff (which would be very rugged) or just has a rubber gasket (which can fail over time).

The main thing is as I mentioned - it's pointless to deliberately wear it swimming because it won't record anything meaningful and will trap water in the band.
bogdan_lm20

14 Jul 17 #72
Beware, this is typical Chinese built, starts off well, but stops working after 6 months or so. Xiaomi dont want to know if you buy from Gearbest, etc. Worth checking about Banggood with the company before buying it. Otherwise, like me you just have to discard it once it develops a problem.

superfreddy
14 Jul 17 #74
Oooh would you advise the Lenovo then? A branded one might be better. Does it give notifications for messages/facebook?
Eph101
15 Jul 17 #75
I can't speak to the Lenovo, but I got this a few weeks back. The heart rate monitor seems to be a bit on/off for first time readings, approx 1 in 4 is wildly wrong (so much so that it's obvious) or just doesn't read. It sometimes needs pushing gently down or centering carefully to get a reading. I guess people with larger wrists than mine may find it easier?
It also doesn't run all the time, which is good for battery use, but not great for quick exercise. Although, if you want it to and you have your phone, then you can set it to read heart rate in real time and I've found it to be fairly good, it's just a bit of a faff to req a phone.
All in all for anything under £20 it's still a great buy.
