1050 2GB is not a gaming card. 1050ti minimum.

even if so, its not an excessive premium to have them install it and put windows on etc

But John Lewis deal is £100 cheaper so the SSD is costing £100? I'm sure you can get them cheaper.

yeah 2 slots
1 regular 2.5 inch sata for HDD or normal SSD
1 m.2 port for SSD
so john lewis one has m.2 port free to add an SSD to the existing HDD
or this one has the m.2 drive fitted already along side the HDD, you are basically paying 100quid for someone to choose a drive and fit it for you
never saw that crucial drive in sale!!! took it out of basket as was too similar in price to samsung evo 850 which is quite a bit better
but at that price would have been worth it

I thought about doing that but you will end up with less storage. Unless you have 2 slots for hdd

I'd probably go for the John Lewis version for £100 less, with a 2 year warranty, and stick my own M.2 SSD in it.

i cant for the life of me figure out what the difference is between this (202) and the 203 model with JL (except the ssd of course) anyone have a clue?

Its more like having a car with an engine vs having a pedal car I think!
I have SSDs at home and my work PC drives me mad sometimes with its mechanical drive.

I've seen some videos on YouTube of guys who put a skin on to avoid the fingerprint issue but I wouldn't do it as I like the carbon effect, even if that means having to wipe it every few hours

I got the i7 version from Very last month. It was 849 but with the 20% credit back it worked out at 680. Good laptop only gripe I have is that it is a fingerprint magnet

Yep. That's the only thing stopping me from owning one.

A decent 128gb Nvme SSD is around 65quid so you're paying for someone to install it at the factory and not voiding the warranty. Removing the drive from the JL version before a warranty claim might be an option if the chassis doesn't have any warranty seals on it

But if you buy the cheaper one you also have a HDD you can sell or utilise as external.

Genuine question, is it worth it to have an SSD in a laptop? or could you save yourself £100 and have a standard HDD?

You cant void the warranty by upgrading certain parts. Its part of UK law.

If you'd ever had an SSD, you wouldn't be asking the question. It's a luxury. But it's a luxury in the same way air con is in a car. Once you've had it, you're never buying one without again!

Wouldn't you be better off getting the John Lewis deal as you can add a ssd along side the 1tb original HD?

This already has both an SSD and a 1TB HDD alongside it.

It is worth it, it's no different to having an SSD in a desktop
Boot up time is immensely faster than on a HDD, games and files will load much faster
Really with this particularly model and the one from John Lewis it's just the toss up of whether you can find an SSD cheaper than £100 and want to install it yourself

Naa, it helps much much more than that. Its not just a quick bootup, programme loading etc but overall most people will notice quite a difference

Still is £599 at John Lewis but that doesn't have the SSD. Is this worth an extra £100....? I don't imagine it is!
