Am I the only one here reading these comments and thinking there is something a bit distasteful about some of our members trying to defraud a company out of money over a promotion which ended 2 weeks ago. Get over it, promotion ended, just cos one person managed to convince Amazon it was valid when it wasn't doesn't mean everybody should be entitled to it. Honestly, did your parents never tell you it's wrong to steal sweets from a shop?
The_Hoff

Ok, this is ridiculous. As part of my discussion with Amazon last night about the store credit, where they issued me £80, before they came to that arrangement they issued me 2 codes, which I thought (and they thought) were Amazon promotion codes - told them neither worked, so refunded me 20%.

As it turns out, they're both working £100 Oculus codes. So I've paid £320 (effectively) and got £200 Oculus store credit... haha!

Taking it all in to account, £120 for the hardware... not too shabby

Is this really a good price?

The deal below was the best deal so far for the Rift:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/oculus-rift-touch-with-100-oculus-store-credit-578-99-amazon-2715058

But £200 off is much better than getting £100 credit for Oculus store. As long as you have the PC specs for VR then there's no cheaper alternative.

This is also taking into consideration that on release, the touch controllers alone were £200

With this bundle you'll get a few free games included - Lucky's Tale, Robo Recall and some others. Robo Recall is honestly brilliant and will keep you going until you decide what games you're after.

I posted that one as well. Was sad to see it go so cold but it looks like this one is more agreeable  The Rift is a great deal at this price I reckon. Nearest competitor is the HTC Vive which is great but looking way overpriced now.

Yeah it was a shame it went cold because it was just in time for the Oculus and Steam sales which offered some really good discounts on pretty much every popular VR title

This is awesome, I paid much more than this for the headset alone but definitely worth it even at that price. The touch controllers add a whole new dimension to gaming, get this if you have ever been on the fence about VR gaming, but make sure your pc can handle it!

Damn. I was waiting for a good PS4 deal during Prime Day, but this has thrown me. I'm not rich enough for both.

This severe price drop makes me think the Rift isn't selling well and I'd be buying into a ****. If I had £900 i'd get a Vive.

Fo3
10 Jul 17 #36
I've had the vive and sold it, definitely a good experience. I've bought an Oculus and I am expecting a significant downgrade, at least in terms of tracking and room scale capability.

drasim
10 Jul 17 #39
When the Vive was released it was the only VR unit capable of tracking your movement 360 degrees. It also had hand controllers out of the box, which Oculus didn't have until the end of the year.

Oculus now supports 360 degree movement because you get a second sensor with the touch controllers and you can buy a third sensor (£50 in CEX) to get the dead spots.
I would argue that the touch controllers are more natural feeling for hand movement, but either solution is good.

The advantage of the Vive is you require less USB ports, less wires trailing the room for the sensors / lighthouses and the upcoming knuckle controllers. Whether that is worth the extra is individual choice.
rmg
10 Jul 17 #40
I dont think it does mate.
ned_ryerson
10 Jul 17 #41
The tracking is excellent, and I believe roomscale is also very good now, though you may need a 3rd censor. The one downside is having to run loads of long cables about your play space for each censor.

There isn't really any huge difference between the Rift and Vive now, which makes this price point incredible.
vivi_ssj3

If bought online then refuse delivery at door. Use distance selling regulations to your benefit.
rgrant86
10 Jul 17 #46
The rift and vive are very similar in terms of performance. It's used to be that the vive was much better for room scaling, but now you can buy a third sensor for the rift to give that full functionality. But as it is with the touch controllers, you get two sensors which provide a decent play area and great tracking. The performance of this headset is brilliant, there won't be an update for a few years yet, oculus had already stated this.

For everyone asking about pc specs, check the oculus website, it'll give minimum specs required to run it, but I wouldn't want the minimum for this. I'd say at least an nvidia gtx 1060/1070 (amd 480/580) and a decent modern i5 cpu.

Paid almost double this for mine.

Probably worth it at this price, but I sold my Rift after 6 months or so. Don't get me wrong its amazing - the feeling of sitting in the cockpit in front of a ginormous sun in Elite, or getting the feeling that you're driving up a huge mountain in Dirt Rally and being **** scared of going over the edge really is something special, but for me its something I could only play for upwards of an hour before either getting bored or tired. I ended up not using it for a month before deciding to cash in on something I wasn't using!

Heat added though, great price.

This is a massive price drop! The Vive was outselling the Oculus Rift 2:1 at the start of the year. It's probably even worse now. The sale is on for six weeks so plenty of time to see if there is a price drop on the Vive first.

For anyone just curious about VR especially just for sim stuff I'd recommend picking up a cheap DK2 they were going for around £100 or less on ebay last I checked. Even at £399 it seems a little late to be picking up the 1st gen consumer release headset.

Overload is pretty good for an arcadey 6DOF combat experience. It's basicially a modern day Descent.

I could not hype this deal enough, you need to look up ECHO ARENA which is currently in an open beta and due for release FREE this month (so much awesome free content, at least £200 worth). Echo Arena is best thing in gaming without a doubt atm, cannot be explained without trying first hand. If anyone has genuine questions please let me know.

But different manufacturers making like dell, HP and others so will be better FOV's.

To be honest im confused myself but microsofts offerings look better and more usefull and possibly cheaper.

However unsure about controls yet but should be no brainer they must be able to make similar ones and always updates etc and also games e.g. steam but like a lot of people say even if no compatibility there will be a work around.

Wish i could decide, but if i buy now may be disappointing when the new generation of headsets come from microsoft and i'm not in a massive rush but so tempting, it was clear till now aha. Tricky :/.

It's difficult to know but I'd be surprised if the price goes back up to full after this, the Rift has been caught between the PSVR and the Vive with people favouring the PSVR as a cheaper VR option and the Vive for PC VR leaving the Rift trailing the Vive in sales despite being out first. This price drop makes a lot of sense to address that but hard to know what will happen, HTC may drop the Vive's price in turn as well.

My biggest surprise is that I had no idea it was Multiplayer even after 5 mins of playing. Boy was I surprised when some German chap handed me a disk and said "here. try this".
I found it fun for a while, but it's doesn't have long term appeal for me I think. I'm not very competitive and I have already seen opportunities for pervs, with the full body representations. So sad.

Thanks for comment im waiting ATM I just hope they can do VR gaming as well as rift because MR and the same gaming performance with higher resolution and Xbox compatible will be nice.

Also as masses will buy as cheap and new maybe even more possibilities.

Could always use the 'buy now pay later' option, I do it sometimes during good deals I know won't last until next pay day.

Buy the item as normal, Amazon tries to take funds but fails, the order isn't cancelled from them for a week and they try for 7 days to get payment from the bank, as soon as get paid (within 7 days) go onto Amazon online and update payment method for the item in question, sorted. :man:

Something either wrong with the game or your rig then. Excluding some old independent games that were not optimized well I have ran everything on default settings with no issues whatsoever on my "inferior" R9 290, which is slower than a 780.

Arizona Sunshine (fixed by later patch) and Elite Dangerous (before ASW) had some stuttering early days but no anymore. I even supersample sometimes and still no probs. Better GPU will get you better results, but defaults are fine on min spec, as attested to by hundreds over at r/oculus.

Seanspeed
10 Jul 17 #202
Hubs do not work as they are all still ultimately running through the same port. The reason you need a number of different USB ports for the Rift+Touch is because they each use up quite a bit of bandwidth. If you stick them all on a Hub and run them through a single port, it will overload the port and nothing will work properly.

You have enough ports on your PC already, but if you really need more, you will want to get a PCI-E USB card. The recommended one is the Inateck 4-port card, which is on sale on Amazon right now for £18:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B6ZCNGM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

EDIT: Just realized you're using a laptop, my bad. I think you're very borderline on the GPU requirements there in the first place.
maxcovergold
10 Jul 17 #204
Worth checking device manager to see if they're running off one host or not. If they are I would recommened getting a PCIe expansion card rather than a hub, assuming you have a slot free.

Cannot compare, i suffered a lot with VR sickness in the DK2 days, however developers have learnt a great deal since then and create games with this in mind.

Also a lot of those rollercoaster rides don't have positional tracking which is a recepe for disaster in terms of sickness. Worth trying a Rift or Vive in a retail store.
The_Third_Man
10 Jul 17 #205
HTC has said in the past they have no plans to reduce the price of the Vive. They make a profit on the sale of each unit, whereas I'm pretty sure Oculus must be making a loss, particularly in this sale.

There are cheaper sensors in development for the Vive which may bring the price down (as well as allowing more than the standard two). At that point the price will probably drop, but it won't be any time soon.
badasschris
10 Jul 17 #206
I read something about the sensors now working on usb 2 so assumed at worst I could use a usb 3 hub for the sensors and maybe a xbox controller and use the other usb 3 port for the headset. From reviews I thought the 1060 works perfectly with the rift, if its not the case I'll send it back
Seanspeed
10 Jul 17 #207
Oh didn't know it came with a 1060, too. Yea, that should be more than enough, GPU-wise.

As for the USB thing, they say it's *possible* to use a USB2.0 port for each item, but tracking will suffer. Either way, sticking them all on a hub and going through a single port is going to overload it. At the very least, they need to be on separate ports. There's definitely not gonna be any adaptive bandwidth control ensuring that each gets their own fair share of the pie or anything like that.

I have both Rift and Vive. Buying Vive at £750 makes no sense whatsoever over this deal. Add a third sensor that can be bought for £59 and you get full room scale just like Vive. Visual Quality is equal and I would say touch controllers better than current Vive wands, though that may change when vive release their knuckle controllers
badasschris
10 Jul 17 #212

10 Jul 17 #215
Well considering the exchange rate has been 1GBP to 1.20-1.30USD during the past year it is not surprising there is what seems "parity" between UK£ prices and US$ prices.

When the exchange rate is 1GBP:1.2USD, a 100USD item is [(100USD ÷ 1.2) x 1.2 VAT] = 100GBP
If it was 2 years ago, 1GBP:1.55USD, a 100USD item was [(100USD ÷ 1.55) x 1.2 VAT] = 77.42GBP

The manufacturer would also argue that there are also additional logistic costs and possibly import duties involved in selling the goods overseas.

Not sure if Oculus DK2s are still available, but they're the cheapest way into VR. As the screens are lower res the system requirements are lower. A few titles run ok on my 750ti, and there are a mountain of demos and early versions of the retail games available for free (eg Windlands).

Now that I'm writing this I'll have to get rid of mine, as it's been sat on the floor next to my PC for 18 months totally unused!. Most things made me feel sick so not for me...

One thing that confuses me with the USB ports matter is the stated hardware requirement which is "3x USB 3.0 ports, 1x USB 2.0 port".

However, every Oculus Rift setup video I've viewed shows only two USB 3.0 ports used (one for headset, one for sensor) and another one (which can be USB 2.0 or 3.0) to connect the Xbox controller dongle. So I don't understand why the hardware requirement states that three USB 3.0 ports are needed when the setup videos show only two are used.

Perhaps they mean that three USB 3.0 ports are needed if one intends to use Oculus Touch because that needs one for its sensor? If so, then I wish they'd have made that clear!

There are alternatives but this is the best value for money you can get in VR.

1. PSVR. I think this is around the £400 mark. You need a ps4 to run it. From what I understand, the headset itself is pretty good but the tracking and the playstation move wands they use for your hands leave a lot to be desired. I heard a lot of people say it's a good experience but can't be compared to the Rift or Vive.

2. Vive. This is around the same level as the Rift but currently £700ish so considerably more expensive than this current Rift sale. Both Rift and Vive have some things going for them and some against. I personally think the Rift is the better headset but there really isn't much in it. Both need a decent gaming PC to run them so if you don't have one already this is a considerable expense.

3. Some 3rd parties are bringing out some Microsoft headsets later this year. Not sure what they're going to be like yet but will be about £400 and run on a slower PC than the Rift and Vive.

In short, this really is a great deal and if you can I would reccomend you jump on it.

TyrelUK
10 Jul 17 #227
Yes, you need a decent gaming PC to run this or Vive. The PSVR can be run from a PS4 so if you're buying everything from scratch this is your cheapest entry point. However, I've heard it's good but not comparable to Rift or Vive.
TyrelUK
10 Jul 17 #228
This has higher compatibility than the Vive. Almost everything created for Vive can be played to Rift as it runs through Steam. There are a lot of top games that Oculus funded on the condition that they are exclusive to Rift. There is a hack to Vive to get games on the Oculus store working. It apparently works very well but no guarantee that it won't stop working.

Oculus Rift isn't wireless. Most VR headsets are tethered at the moment with video and usb connections, although there are various 3rd party wireless solutions on the horizon. 1080ti is more than enough to run it.

TyrelUK

They haven't said they are exclusive to Vive, they just didn't mention the Rift. It's probably due to the court case going on between Oculus and Zenimax who own Bethesda. However, when questioned Bethesda have said they will be bringing it to as many systems as they can. Technically, if they release it on Steam there is nothing stopping it from running on Rift, they would have to go out of their way to block it. They could do this but it's not going to be hard for someone to get around it.

TL;DR - This is not a clearance sale because the Rift is terrible, this is a power play by a company with a lot of money investing in their future and trying to get ahead.

I know that there's a lot of Oculus-hate Vive-love out there for a couple of reasons. 1. Oculus released at a higher price point than they originally said. 2. Oculus was bought by Facebook and some people hate that. 3. Oculus originally didn't release with touch controllers, but Vive had the wands. 4. Vive had much better room scale support at first.

At the original launch, those reasons caused a lot of people to go Vive over Oculus, and while the numbers aren't too different, Oculus was definitely behind. I'm not sure exactly where they are with sales numbers now, but I'm guessing that this is their attempt to push ahead. Because of Facebook they have a ton of money backing them, and business-wise it makes sense to lose money on hardware to get ahead. Amazon has done this like crazy with the Kindle, because the real money is in the software channel.

I have a Rift, and my friend has a Vive. He was happy with his choice at first because the Rift didn't have touch controllers at first, so now he's mostly jealous. The Rift exclusives are awesome, the controllers are nicer (subjective), and at this point all the tracking stuff is pretty much sorted.

Cracking price but I think I'll wait until the next gen arrives.

Had the Vive but sold it after a few months. It was great fun but way too many wires and the fidelity wasn't high enough for me on a gtx 1080 (it felt like playing a 2002 PC game). Also didn't like the field of view, it felt like your looking through a letterbox at the world.

VR has a future but I think it needs at least 4k res per eye and wrap around screens. It also needs to be lighter and have less wires. Might be waiting a few years though as that would need some serious horsepower.

Don't let this put you off though, at this price it's worth the plunge... You can always stick it on eBay when the novelty wears off

Amazing price, if it's for you. Got it for £600 from Amazon and returned it within the 30 days no quibbles guarantee.

Trust me, after a day of work the last thing you want is standing in the centre of your room playing with this ****. Yes you can be seated but the experience won't be as good, and most games are room scale. The hair stood up on my hands the first time I've tried it, but it gets old quick.

Either way, you'll know if it's for your or not within 4 weeks span.

I think VR is still regarded as a novelty and is a few years away from improving to entice the mass market. Remember the first few years of average HD ready flat screens? Was that a while ago?

My vive is gathering dust these days as the rift is just a smoother experience, better ergonomics, touch controllers so intuitive.

Although for perfect 360 a third sensor is a good idea

Owned the DK1, DK2, and this final CV1. Also had a loan of a vive for a couple of months. I did, reluctantly (although luckily now, going by the new price drop) return the CV1 due to lack of time available. By a long shot I prefer the CV1 with Touch over the Vive setup however. I wish there wasn't this bloody vhs/betamax war on though as its a lot of money for people to spend when eventually one of them will likely lose and then get less and less support in the future

It would struggle a bit to maintain the required FPS. Minimum was a 970 which is roughly on par with a 1060.

You might be able to get it working but the experience will be a bit wobbly.

Been waiting for the full immersive experience and after having had a rift on loan for a few days, i totally agree that the resolution isn't quite there - about double what it is now would probably be about right. I also think the field of view leaves something to work on as the rift leaves sizeable gaps on either edge of your view.
However, i have bought one today.

Yeah, one of the reasons I sold mine. It just gathered dust after 2 weeks once the novelty wore off.

Well I am still not completely sold on VR and as its not available in SC I was looking for something which you can use for head movement- so you don't need to use the mouse to look around. Its like TrackIR but cheaper and the wireless version has just been released.

It is a bit confusing, yea.

So for the base Rift(without Touch), it's

1 x 3.0 USB for headset(this is the most important one)
1 x 3.0 USB for tracking sensor
1 x 2.0 USB for XB1 controller wireless dongle

But if you add Touch, you need an extra sensor so it's

1 x 3.0 USB for headset
1 x 3.0 USB for sensor #1
1 x 3.0 USB for sensor #2
1 x 2.0 USB for XB1 controller

Thing is, with the last one, you dont really need the XB1 controller plugged in if you're using Touch, so you can ignore that last 2.0 'requirement'.

Making things more confusing is that they say that you *can* use USB 2.0 for the sensors, but tracking quality will suffer. If you really had to do this, ideally you'd only do it for one of them.

But all in all, with this general Rift + Touch package, you'll want three 3.0 USB ports open ideally.

Hope this clears it up.
Seanspeed
11 Jul 17 #289
Not really applicable to the Rift. This is mainly to add tracking to something that doesn't already have it. The big deal breaker is that it's only capable of rotational tracking(ala GearVR), not positional tracking.
drasim
11 Jul 17 1 #290
You should still be able to have fun with it, do a bit of research on games by watching Youtuber's arm movements and find your advantages during the game.

Robo Recall for example you could use your left arm for shooting enemies moving in the air and your right arm for grabbing onto them.
There will be some games you might find difficult, for example Lone Echo / Echo Arena where there are many documented accidents where limbs are all over the place due to the nature of the game.

Still, if you're into racing or flying games - touch isn't required and the headset alone will provide enough immersion to warrant the purchase.

Many thanks for having taken the time to reply with what was a very helpful and detailed response. Much appreciated

The courier delivered the headset earlier today and the OT pack will be arriving within the next few days, according to Amazon's email. I've had it running with no problems and have been super-impressed so far even if the lack of ventilation means it gets hot inside the viewing space after only a short while.

Yes, the official hardware requirements are confusingly worded and, when taken literally, are actually incorrect. Anyway, it's working fine so that's all that matters to me!

The USB matter was important for me because the gaming laptop I'm using has 3x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports. So once the OT is connected all four of those ports will be used. Thanks for the tip re: it being okay to disconnect the Xbox controller USB dongle when using VR apps that don't require said controller.

If the room scale aspect of VR proves to be something I enjoy then I've read that it works best when a third sensor is connected. So if a game of that type uses the OT controllers then I could play it with the third sensor connected to the USB 2.0 port and hope it still works okay given the lower data transfer rate of that port.

The laptop also has a latest type Thunderbolt port which I've read will work the same as the latest USB type C. So if it's possible to buy a USB type C cable or adapter with OR or its sensors then all headaches will be solved!

The only potential issues you may get is whether Oculus will accept warranty on a used item:

" This Warranty cannot be assigned or transferred to any subsequent purchaser or user and is
not available to products that were purchased used or from any source other than Oculus
or an authorized retailer" ~ Oculus Website Rift Warranty pdf

Also I would be wary of any lens defects - not necessarily from the previous user but of which may be a reason for return.

Personally I would buy new, not only for the reasons above but also because the Touch controllers / Vive controllers are 'the meat' of VR and the immersion that goes with it. There will be many good games you'll not be able to play.
cron7

I have a feeling there will be so many of these on Amazon warehouse over the next few weeks. Not because there's anything wrong with the rift. With it going out of stock like this that must mean a lot of sales, I bet some people will abuse amazon returns policy by using this as a way to borrow an oculus rift for a few days before returning it. Using it like a free VR demo

Just like to say the Oculus is amazing, was worried with the Facebook buy out, but kept with them just because they where the ones to bring VR back to life, I think with the updates and a third sensor its as good as a Vive, plus the content they seem to be cracking out seem to be getting better and better. It finally reached the right price, I thought it was slightly overpriced when I picked mine up, as too your find the games a bit pricey for how short most of them are, but they are getting better, I hope VR continues to improve and doesn't disappear like 3D TV, it so much more than that, some of the best gaming moments I ever had have been in VR now, its at the very least a must try technology, if you ever get the chance.

so do we need to buy a 3rd sensor to be able to play some of the games? whats the best prices people have found for them?
drasim
12 Jul 17 #336
Depends on your room setup and size. If you're able to mount 2 sensors downwards in each top corner of the room facing you, you should be able to turn around and have very minor deadspots.

The third sensor is designed for mounting on the other side of the room to eliminate deadspots.
https://cdn.uploadvr.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Screen-Shot-2016-10-10-at-12.17.48-PM.png

You'll be able to play the games regardless, but games where movement is key then the third sensor makes it easier.
badasschris
12 Jul 17 #337
I was thinking in opposite corners of the room would be best? you think high up and in the fron two corners of the room is better? won't that lose tracking when I turn around?
drasim
12 Jul 17 #338
You could give it a go, but I would just set them in a temporary position in opposite corners first incase the calibration setup doesn't like it. Once you're happy you can do the cable tidying and sensor mounting from there

They can't charge you for a voucher. The best they could do is try to retract and disable the code, which they won't. At least with a company as big as Amazon where making a mistake once in a while is far more insignificant than bad press.

t.b.h. I don't think it matters so much these days

In the old days Moores law applied, which in realistic terms meant you were forever upgrading some part of your pc just to keep it working. These days the rate of progress is slower so chances are you'll upgrade the lot in one big go. Also the version of Windows you had mattered, now not so much

Obviously if you're an enthusiast (I'm not) you'll still build one but it's less of a necessity now, and the amount of money you'll save is marginal (unless you buy from somewhere like pc world of course)

"if the premise is true, then the conclusion must be true"
verb
prɪˈmʌɪz/Submit
1.
base an argument, theory, or undertaking on.
"the reforms were premised on our findings"

I simply stated I had ordered it on the premise of £100 store credit, based on the link i provided them in chat (page 1), I stated the deal wasn't attractive to me if this wasn't the case and that I had opened/used and setup the device(s) at a considerable cost to my time, but that I was more than happy to return it but that I'd need a collection.

I didn't state I was entitled, more so that I ordered on the "premise" of the offer as listed by Amazon. I was informed on the chat that the offer had expired June 25th, but the agent was able to grab 2x codes from the promo team for me to use.

Misinformed, lucky, whatever you want to call it... it's worth the effort of raising it, they clearly have some codes unused in a DB somewhere, or a means of generating them after the deal had ended.
lucyferror
13 Jul 17 #366
As I said lucky because you quoted offer which expired and it's only Amazon representative goodwill that they offered you something. None of links on first page refers to offer with 100 credit. Can't find it.
The_Hoff
13 Jul 17 #367
There was some healthy confusion on the chat, the agent (I think) thought he was issuing me Amazon promo codes (to use on Amazon products - he was monitoring my attempt to use the code on some Amazon supplied headphones with said code, he could 'see' my basket). I sent him a screen shot of the fact the code was stating it was 'invalid' (on Amazon) and he therefore went back to the promo team and provided a second code, when that one also failed to work (on Amazon) he suggested I could either return it, or he could provide a 20% discount to my Amazon gift card balance (£80). I chose the GC credit.

At this point because of all of the confusion (I expected them to know where the code was for) I was unsure if these were in fact Oculus codes or not, the PC I was using wasn't the PC with the Oculus software installed, so couldn't redeem it to test.

robodan918
15 Jul 17 #387
You were the lucky one it looks like
Amazon is refusing to offer oculus credits or amazon.co.uk credits
From chat:
"Me: I was told by your agent that it was valid and I would receive the credit
and I saw it (and still see it) on your website saying "6 results for PC & Video Games : Oculus Rift - £100 credit bonus"
of the 6 results, the item I bought is listed
Lalitha: We are sorry for the incorrect information Daniel, you can check the link which I have provided you. The offer is only valid till 24th June.
Me: hence I should receive the credit
the link you provided was nowhere to be seen on your promotional page
all that your webpage (and your amazon.co.uk chat agent) said was that I would receive the full 100 credit
so I purchased this product and expected to get the full amount of my order: 1 oculus rift, 1 set of touch controllers, 1 £100 Oculus store credit bonus
As I received only part of my order, the order delivery is incomplete. I am missing the £100 Oculus store credit bonus
Hello?
Lalitha: Yes Daniel.
Me: My question is: when can I expect to receive the rest of my order?
when will I receive the missing item that your website advertised and your Amazon.co.uk chat agent confirmed and guaranteed?
Lalitha: We are sorry for the situation Daniel, however as the promotion is expired we are unable to help you with the refund.
Me: I am not expecting a refund I am expecting £100 Oculus store credit bonus
if you cannot fulfil that item in my order, I expect something of equal value
Lalitha: Yes Daniel I am talking about £100.
Me: if you offer £100 amazon credit instead of £100 Oculus store credit bonus, I would agree to that
£100 amazon.co.uk credit is equivalent to £100 Oculus store credit bonus, as I will spend £100 at both amazon.co.uk and at oculus
Lalitha: I wish I could do that for you however please understand that as the promotion is ended we are unable to take any actions on the order.
Me: on your website it does not list that the promotion has ended
and after I placed the order on July 10th, I spoke with your agent who said I will be receiving the credit
hence you are obligated by our contract of purchase and sale to deliver £100 credit
I expect to receive my order in full - including the £100 credit - whether in oculus store or amazon.co.uk store credit
Lalitha: As I have already mentioned we are sorry for the wrong information provided by previous agent. however we are unable to help you with the promotion on your present order.
Me: then I will have to send the item back for a full refund
as you are stating you are unwilling to complete the order
I have opened everything and have set it up - and was hoping to use the £100 credit today to purchase items on the oculus store
If your agent gave me incorrect information, the fault and obligation is on amazon.co.uk
Lalitha: Could you please allow me two minutes to check this with my resources?
Me: yes
Lalitha: Thank you for waiting. I understand that it effects Amazon if we provide you some incorrect information.
I will escalate this and make sure that this will not happen again.
If you want to return the item I will help you with the free returns label.
Me: how will you rectify this situation for me today
okay send me the return label
I will buy it from Currys.co.uk instead as they are able to fulfil their ordered - each item
Lalitha: We will make sure this will not happen again, While I can't do enough to compensate for the inconvenience caused and cover for the loss of time you had and the only thing I can do is make sure that you get a better service from us when you place orders from us in future by giving a strong feedback against the previous agent.
Me: you can compensate me with an amazon.co.uk credit
that would be enough
Lalitha: I wish I could do that for you, however our system will not give us an option to help you with the credit.
Me: does your supervisor have the option
Lalitha: We are sorry Daniel, as the promotion is expired no one will get an option for this."

here's the promo link they sent me: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/promotions/details/popup/ASISZA72DCH1L

Good on you mate, but it looks like the oculus store credit bonus is a one off for one lucky guy! Take the money and run!!!
robodan918
15 Jul 17 #388

15 Jul 17 8 #390
Am I the only one here reading these comments and thinking there is something a bit distasteful about some of our members trying to defraud a company out of money over a promotion which ended 2 weeks ago. Get over it, promotion ended, just cos one person managed to convince Amazon it was valid when it wasn't doesn't mean everybody should be entitled to it. Honestly, did your parents never tell you it's wrong to steal sweets from a shop?
bisoner
15 Jul 17 3 #391
The thread has been a bit derailed for sure - I'd rather get some user experiences of people using vr for the first time rather than inane chat about trying to eek £100 out of Amazon when it was never really on offer.
wild_quinine
15 Jul 17 3 #392
I think the weird thing about VR is that it's difficult if not impossible to describe it to people who haven't done it.

Some of this is that there's already so much hyperbole around experiences in general that it's difficult to rise above the superlatives. If I tell you it's like being inside the game, a lot of people will think of imax, or HDR, or 3D tv or one of the other technologyies that has promised to 'put you inside' an experience.

The best two things I can say about VR are that:

a) When I remember my experiences in VR, I remember them the same way as places I have been to, rather than games I have previously played. and

b) the most powerful thing about VR is the immersion. But what people often fail to mention about this is that it is the power to convey the scale of objects accurately that is one of the most significant parts of that.

You might have been spooked by jump scares in a video game before, but I doubt you have ever been intimidated by the actual size of a thing in a game outside of VR.

In VR, even standing in front of GladOS in "The Lab" was genuinely intimidating.
KCooperman
15 Jul 17 #393
Anyone else find that the image is a bit blurry and not that sharp? I notice this on text more than anything. not sure if I was expecting too much, but I wasn't expecting it to look like it was connected via scart cable. Is this normal? I have adjusted it on my face correctly and have adjusted lens spacing but it still looks a little out of focus.
Shard
15 Jul 17 #394
I'm having trouble getting past Google Earth and SuperHot VR. I'm sure I'll like other games/apps as well but they're amazing.

Google Earth. It's a bit like being in a model village, on a global scale. I was following the US/Mexico border for a while, good luck Trump :-)

SuperHot is brilliant, you can see the youtube videos, now imagine actually being in that world! I'd recommend this app if you want to lose weight

It's nothing like the phone experience, the closest I can think of would be a planetarium
Shard
15 Jul 17 #395
Have you run the app with the horizontal and vertical lines? The other thing I've noticed is that I have to pull the headset down more than you would guess, enough that there's barely any light coming in around the nose.
KCooperman
15 Jul 17 #396
Yeah I see the 4 horizontal and vertical lines. Looks like dotted lines rather than a solid line. Guess that's because I'm seeing the individual pixels.
daBluone
15 Jul 17 #397
There is a very small sweet spot. It's the limitations of the current technology unfortunately and text is one of its victims. Using big screen and showing my desktop is very unusable for me as it's just not sharp enough. I also see alot of God rays but I'm running on a 980ti so can't expect alot. Still the overall VR experience is amazing.
maxcovergold
15 Jul 17 1 #398
Fyi in Google Earth you can go into settings and enable Human Scale. It's not exactly one to one but amazing to go to landmarks and be your size ISH.

If they could enable an option to stay at that scale (even after increasing altitude) and limiting speed, they'd have an amazing Superman simulator!

I ordered this. Was going to wait, but then ehard the rumor that they are replacing the oculus and touch seperate packages with one new package that is the rift and touch together and with no xbox controller. Better to bite now and get the xbox controller with it.
VinegarJoe
16 Jul 17 #401
Same. Apparently they've also dropped the remote, which is around £30 on the Oculus site, so along with the Xbox controller that's around £70 of value stripped from the package.

Make sure you take screenshots of the Amazon page - if they're missing there will be hell to pay!
The_Hoff
16 Jul 17 #402
My best experiences so far (no order and all dramatically different):

-Google Earth VR, it's very good indeed.
-Superhot VR, crazy good mechanics, visuals are great.
-Robo Recall, similar to Superhot and yet very different, knock up pixel density and this is the best graphics yet.
-Fantasynth, honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had, as a dance music former club goer this sent me back in time... to the future!

I bought the pack with Superhot/Wilson's Heart and Fantastic Contraption, I'm a bit scared to try Wilson's Heart... Looks spooky AF.

Quill was also pretty smart as a concept though I'm no artist.

For those yet have yet to order, I suggest you set an email alert up on Amazon, I did this on friday 21st and had an alert out twice and manage to get an order in on the second alert before it went OOS again, you have to be quick. Got my Rift today and it was the one of the xbox controller in it so they must be getting the older stock still. Good luck
