so is there a hidden sports pass in the deal you posted? else now rather confused, surely the extra £5 is worth it for two extra months of movies ... as after all you did post a movies bundle in your deal....?

Yes, you can paused and remind bbc 1 eastenders. You can also pause and rewind it.

Please note the pause and rewind is for the freeview part of the box (and obviously on-demand), not for the streaming channels.

What does that mean? Your confusing! Can I paused and remind bbc 1 eastenders?

Oh really?
Funny it's every time a Movie/Entertainment bundle is posted the heat goes through the roof and people eat them up.
Adding another low cost option of a windows based stick. Being windows based they are compatable with the entire suite of Netflix/Amazon/SkyGo/NowTv/Youtube blah, blah.

Still patiently awaiting the V2 box with 3 months entertainment for 11-12 quid. Come on Shopto! Thrones starts in a fortnight!!

I bought one of the 5 month entertainment pass ones purely for Game of Thrones  It was free C&C in store as well (maybe because over £30?). Had a bit of a faff sorting out an account but got it working eventually. I thought it was quite a good deal at £35 for 5 months - also have the option to try Sky Sports as well if any good deals come up.
By the way, just thought I'd add that you do get Sky Sports News 'free' via it's own app, but not sure if this will expire when the entertainments pass finishes....

Lack of Amazon Video is a deal breaker for me, same goes for the lack of Now TV on the fire stick. Roku is my only choice, shame the updated Roku still isn't available over here.

Roku isn't the only choice - just the only obvious (and relatively inexpensive).
PS3, and XBox One (and presumably PS4 and XBox360) can do Now TV and Amazon Prime - but it really depends on whether you want that additional cost, power usage of those devices. But if you also play games, then they may well be an option.

saw that the smart box has an aerial input. the older boxes use wi-fi to stream the content. Is that also true for the 'smart' box?
do you need an aerial for the pause rewind??
Adiebear to SpikePhoenix
4 Jul 171#29
No you don't need the aerial for pause/rewind etc. Aerial is just for freeview channels, everything else is streamed via your internet connection.
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but this box does not have a pass through, so your loose all your channels on you TV if you want to use this. You could always buy a TV Ariel splitter, and have two feeds, one to the box, and one to the TV. Deal breaker for me.

Always be careful when making claims that it has never been this price before without doing a search. Only one example from below of many from last year. Bought the deal below myself. (the extra codes the OP also provided worked giving 4 months in total free) http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/total-4-months-free-sky-cinema-a-spanking-new-box-now-tv-smart-box-2-months-sky-2585488
Agree with others comments about the lack of aerial out becoming annoying but still handy for turning older TV's into smart with basic pause/rewind functionality.
Normally also when creating a NOWTV account I use a different email address and you normally get an offer when you click on the subscribe which is normally worth taking before applying your free passes 2 weeks before the offer is due to end. If nothing offered just then apply the free pass.

can you watch freeview channels on this box if you don't have a aerial imput in the house? (my landlord is so fussy he doesn't want to a satellite dish for freeview)
alg to __shopperrr__
3 Jul 17#22
Yer wot?
Freeview needs an aerial, Freesat uses a dish.
These boxes act as a normal Now TV box for streaming over wifi or wired network, but also act a Freeview HD tuner.
BungalowBill to __shopperrr__
3 Jul 17#23
Confusing your platforms there - Freeview does not come over satellite. Freeview is through an aerial. Sky and Freesat need a dish. You will not get Freeview on this without an aerial, but some services are in the NowTV section too so you will get their IP versions.

3 Jul 17#21
Beware - the Freeview implementation is poor IMO, and I have two of these. Now/next listings only (no 7-day guide), no numerical buttons on the remote so going up/down to select channels only. Also seems prone to losing channels regularly even in strong signal areas, requiring retune, whereby they miraculously reappear.

The remote isn't very good for looking through the guide to watch live TV. Is there any app or alternative to the now tv controller?

But if you've got a good quality TV with freeview or freeview hd surely you'd want to feed the output in to your TV like any normal PVR (even though this is kiddies PVR at best as it can only pause and not record). So in this respect I would've thought my point was self explanatory to be honest. Simply put, if you use this box for freeview, you can't use your TV for freeview unless you split your aerial at the source, hence a bad design.

not quite sure of your point
aerial in, HDMI out (for Freeview)

3 Jul 17#14
that was my take on it too. personally I hate these smart boxes, prefer the V2. They have too big a footprint and offer not a lot more. Biggest negative is they have no aerial out so useless to people with modern TVs. Very much a bad design geared towards people still with crts or perhaps using a computer monitor perhaps

well each of us will have different perspectives
I would possibly buy 2 months or 4 months Cinema depending on your circs, & obviously £5 is v cheap for the extra 2 months Cinema
but I have got loads of free NowTV Cinema passes so the £5 is just a cost to me (plus I don't watch many films, it's a bit selfish to say it but only the wife & kids watch most of the crpa Sky movies

the aerial is for the Freeview channels - over 100+ where I live but I guess it depends on your location
there's never a lag on Freeview channels because that operates just like terrestrial TV, ie instant
