Christ, there are some whingers on this site aren't there?
Think that's one of the major problems of the internet - gives everyone a voice even if they need to complain without reason and share their utter stupidity.
I'd limit access to people over 18 that have a basic grasp of the English language, common sense and an IQ above 50!!
Facebook wouldn't like that though. Love this site. I validate myself that my basic education has got me this far - and I went to an awful school!!

I don't think you understand how this works. NOW TV subsidises the cost of the box. If you get the box and use Plex they're losing money on nothing.
But perhaps there's a gap in the market. Why don't you set up real Plex boxes and pay people to take them, lets us know how long you keep doing it.

Thanks for the post. Heat added & also bought. Thanks again.
I find the fan on this box very loud, which is ok but at night its a bit annoying. Also the sport stutters super badly for me, there is terrible ghosting with football.
Maybe its my tv, but when I stream from pc to tv its nice and smooth.

perhaps your TV has different settings based upon the input? I have a Hisense TV and I think that does the same thing (although I tend to stick with a single HDMI input now).

Yes mine is noisy too.
The fan can be removed, see you tube, guess it is there for a reason though.

It appears that it's blocked/removed via an OTA firmware update. A quick google suggests that Plex is no longer viable...such a shame!

Really wish they would stop crippling the NowTV boxes with software. Have ended up paying out for Roku boxes now as they do run all the apps I need (Plex, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, iPlayer, etc) - but it's galling knowing the NowTV boxes are basically the same innards at half the price, but with software modified to limit what they can actually run.

OOS everywhere near me, but a great price.
Cheapest ever was John Lewis on launch, they did a price match against normal box. Was £20 if I remember correctly.
Just ordered Virgin Media Full House/100MB/talk weekend/BT Sport & ESPN £52 a month as much cheaper than BT AND with £220 Quidco but heat anyway I was looking for a good deal till VM Quidco came up! (y)

Hi folks, what happens once subscription is over? Can i still watch freeview / free channels on the box? Or is it essentially a dud?
Basically I'm trying to find an easy way to watch tv channels in the easiest manner. I have a ps4 but you need multiple apps to get a small subset of channels, and for some reason my samsung TV isn't tuning any freeview channels on my aerial. I also have a PC hooked up to the TV but again unless I use a complex UI of Kodi there's no slick way to watch tv. It's fine for me, but my parents wouldn't have a clue where to start...

just for my 2 cents, and i'm not like a connoisseur on Freeview boxes, but i'd say this is average. I hate that the HD versions on the tv guide are all the way down the bottom, meaning you have to scroll down for ages before you get to them. and there's no page down button to get there quickly, and you can't type the numbers etc. It's also very geared towards having a subscription to Now TV, which to be honest I might do cos it's so cheap. Also, if it's been on standby for a while, it takes about 30 secs to boot, maybe annoying for some. It looks nice, the remote is ok too, decent picture in HD, all the good apps too, yeah it's alright.

Quick bit of advise from the crowd, if you don't mind- I've just cancelled (or am in the process of) my entertainment package, they're offering me sweeteners to keep me on. 4 months at £3.49, which sounds good to me. If I cancel fully, are they likely to email me with a better offer, or will that be it, do you think?
Does anyone have any experience of how they operate with regards to retentions?
MrJinxy to ScroopEgerton

No the only offer you get is the one you mention so take that

Potentially worth if for the passes, but if you subscribe to any TV other than Sky's stuff (which you should be doing) then the boxes are a waste of time. Kind of a joke that even this higher priced version is still so locked down. It's one thing when you're only paying a tenner or so - you can justify it basically being a Sky box. But this thing surely can't compete with Chromecast/Fire/Roku.
