If they can use a phone well enough to play Minecraft pe they probably are old enough to play minecraft, although I would make sure they avoid online. Kids who are 12 play pegi 18s so it's your decision at the end.

There are creatures that attack you in survival mode but there isn't any blood or gore and characters look kind of cartoon-ish . You're best check out YouTube videos to judge yourself. But can be played fine by 5 year olds. Stampy does great videos on a kids level but irritating for adults lol.

My daughter is 5 and is obsessed with Minecraft. Has been for a while. Probably started playing a year or so ago. She starts school this year.

I've never played it on PC so can't answer that. Between a gamepad and touch screen I prefer touch screen as you tap what you want no fiddling with the controller. There is a glitch with the touch controls on some occasions that ends up changing your viewing direction which is slightly annoying. This isn't ever time you play but been present in game for a couple months now.
