Back in the days when a GTX 480 used 300W and your pentium 4 used 150W, big power supplies were necessary.
These days a quad core draws 65W, the 1070 draws about 150W, and this thing isn't bristling with optical drives or LEDs. It just doesn't need more than maybe 300W... assuming the power supply can actually output that safely mind you, a lot of the cheap ones can't.

Voted hot, seems like a pretty decent deal to me. Actually tempted to order one myself cause as someone has already stated, this is quite close to the price for building yourself but without the hassle! Obviously a SSD and i7 would be better but for £850 I'm finding nothing to complain about!

Yes i did add up parts before buying it and came to around same price as this so obviously prebuilt, with warranty and windows 10 a nice bonus.Saves me building one..which i have not done in years, i ordered from nectar site as they had a promotion with argos for a few days, not sure if still on, 4 points for every pound so roughly £17 back (after 60 days)

A similar Ryzen system I parted up was only showing a 350w draw. PSU's are getting more and more efficient in low/mid end. Only the insane top end throws efficiency out the window I find.
Should be simple, as far as I'm aware the license is primarily tied to the motherboard rather than the drive with 10 - should be a quick and painless swap. My only concern with this tbh is whether or not you void your warranty doing that.

Really not a bad deal, but regardless of your views on how much juice it actually needs I'd whip that PSU out and replace it with something nice, branded EVGA/Seasonic/Superflower - just to avoid the hassle when the cheap nasty PSU pops.

I was surprised when putting together a build on pc specialist that it came up with a warning that an 750w PSU was way more than the 350w required for this build. They actually tried to recommend a cheaper and lower watt unit, even said they don't like to overcharge customer. Crazy!

A high power PSU can be less efficient, more expensive to run and hotter at low power levels than a lower rated unit.
The Graphics Card is Leaps and Bounds better in this PC compared to the one you have shared but the CPU is a slightly higher model in your link as well as improved RAM, its a tough one as the price gap would be consumed by upgrading the card to 1070 as it is approx £250 more for a 1070 than a 1050. if you are considering both, and its for gaming or VR go for the Medion from OP IMHO.

Voted hot. £849... a good £400 of that is on the 1070 card alone, (yes you can get lower than that if you know where to look). I just built a ryzen 5 1600 pc build with a gtx1060, evga 650 watt psu, crucial 16Gb RAM, seagate 2Tb hdd, Corsair Carbide spec alpha case, Gigabyte 350m motherboard. For a total of 729.95. Having a 1070 instead of a 1060 would most likely bring the cost on par with this offer. the only advantage building one have is you know what goes into your PC. 849 i5 with a 1070 is a sweet deal in any case

See this is the primary reason im torn, staff discount brings this down to around £765 which puts it about on par with what the parts should have cost pre-mining fad. I'd prefer ryzen but its still a decent upgrade from my 2500k currently.
Is the motherboard standard? I understand its an in-house board but if its standard layout I could easily pawn the 7400 off to my brother (Who's currently on a Athlon x4 860k) and slip a ryzen board in - win win I feel.

pr3dicta5le
18 Jul 17#50
Ahh sorry so you're not completely clueless then! I would use the i5 for a few years first. It won't noticeably bottleneck the 1070 for a while. You will get the odd game which uses 100% CPU but that doesn't happen often and only seems to happen in certain circumstances
slayermatt
18 Jul 17#51
Yeah I've built a few systems, currently I've an aging i5 2500k and an R9 285... both getting a bit long in the tooth. If 1070s weren't still going for crazy money I'd build myself but at £400 a pop compared to the £300 the lower end ones should retail for the savings hard to ignore.
Only £100 more than I paid for my 1070 before prices went stupid. If I could justify a new pc right now I would probably that in it
Bird68
18 Jul 17#53
If it's listed as having something which it turns out not to have, I'd be insisting on a discount. just point out that they'll have to sell it discounted as a customer return, so they might as well pass the saving on to you. Customer good will, blah, blah and all that.

I'm still working from a 1000W power supply.... I had intermittent power cut outs when the rig was under strain, so it's just easier to be comfortable in the knowledge that I can upgrade further without worrying about the PSU  There's no point IMHO trying to get a power supply just above what you expect the power draw to be, as it only becomes problematic years down the line if/when upgrading components.

Thanks for the reply. The HD sounds like the one in the last Medion I got, not excessively noisy if gaming but at the desktop could definitely hear it if I were seated nearby. Worth checking to see what the squeak is, I'm guessing it may disappear after a little usage.
