So if a 4K 16:9 3840 x 2160 monitor is 3840 pixels wide
and this is 2560 wide, a 4K monitor would still be better visually? (ignoring price difference in monitors)

That depends on a whole variety of factors.
For a start 3840x2160 can be used on both large monitors and small monitors. The former is just more space, essentially a 2x2 grid of 1920x1080 screens without the bezels. The equivalent sizing to this would be a 40" 3840x2160 screen.
On smaller monitors it would be too high a resolution to use normally but computers are shifting from the old method and allowing pixels to be used to add more detail instead of more space. This is known as Retina on MacOS and HiDPI or Scaling on Windows. OS Support is pretty good these days, but there are still some programs that don't support it and show up as unusably small.
The best results for the second type are from using 2x/200% scaling which means 3840x2160 offers the same sizing of on screen elements (text etc.) as 1920x1080.
The ideal HiDPI alternatives for other resolutions are still fairly scarce so if you're considering a 32" monitor then you can't yet get 5120x2880, if you went for a 3840x2160 screen you'd use it with the 1.5x/150% scaling setting to get 2560x1440 equivalent. Whether that would be better would depend on how many programs were actually taking advantage of the extra pixels and how many were just being scaled up, and how tolerant you were of the slight blur of the scaled programs.
In short:
~46" - It'll be identical to a 2x2 grid of 1920x1080 monitors but without the bezels.
~23" - The majority of programs will either look identical (if they scale up) or better (if they take advantage of it) but there will be a few that aren't compatible that you'll need to find replacements for.
~32" - Those that scale up will look worse, those that take advantage of it will look better and those that don't support it will be larger and marginally less unusable.
All of the above sizes are for normal viewing distances, if you're sitting closer than normal as the monitor in this deal is designed for then adjust the sizes downwards. Circa 40", 20" and 26". And vice versa if you're sitting further away.

I basically have the 29" model of this. I would imagine 25" would be a bit small unless you are pretty close to it.
Gives you an idea compared to a 22" wide. Personally i love the ultra-wide but for me 29" minimum. Nice price though so heat from me :smiley:

For gaming I found that I was really comfortable playing on a 24" 144hz, much more than on the 27" QNIX I had in the past, so that's what I went for in Ultrawide. Right now, I'm using the 29" of this model for media consumption, and below it the Acer Z301C 29.5" 200hz for gaming. Makes for a brilliant combo, and the extra wideness comes in REAL handy when recording/producing on Logic X :smile:

Pretty good monitor too! I had this one, and ended up upgrading to the 29" model only because I wanted to have the same height as my main monitor (a 24" BenQ 144hz).

I have an ultra-wide monitor and I love it BUT you will want a fairly large size so that the height isn't sacrificed versus a regular monitor. I think a 25" will be on the small side height-wise for most people...
EDIT: Will be beautiful for Blu-ray movie playback though as it fills the screen

Don't bother with this! Seriously not worth the money. Unless you like a 16:9 24inch sliced in half and have a monitor arm to get it super close to your face. If you are after an ultra wide save for a little while or be patient for a sale on the 29" and above

Just doing the maths, it has roughly the same height as a 20" 16:9 monitor, in fact those are a little taller than this. You weren't kidding about it being tiny, which counters the 'immersive gaming' argument.
