Just purchased this myself. It's a Leica tripod, which, unusually, is 1.72M tall. That's the average man's height.
The quality is superb, it's strong and sturdy and has levelling feet, two bubble spirit levels and a standard camera mounting attachment.
It's actually intended for use as a laser measuring tripod, hence it's tall and sturdy, but if you're a serious photographer, this is an absolute steal for £30, and postage is FREE NEXT DAY.

100% yes
This unit is now sold out but they sell a similar Bosch unit for the same price. Just not quite as tall at 1.52M.

To those people thinking this looks like a cheap plastic tripod, bear in mind that in the picture, that tripod is extended to 1.7 metres. It's a solid unit. I have one of the 1.2M cheapies at home that squeeks when you pull the legs out, this is definitely Leica quality (as it would be when it's designed to hold heavy Leica Laser Geometry equipment)....

Lol so synical. This thing weights 2.4kg and is designed for heavy laser lining equipment, it couldn't be less cheap and plasticky if it tried.

Mine has arrived today, it should be fine for a spotting scope as all of the moving parts (including the tilt and turn) are lockable. I don't have anything weighing 1kg unfortunately, but I can't move the top mechanism if I try once locked if that helps...

Exactly what I thought, looks like the velbon brand at currys, just a cheap chinese generic plastic tripod with Leica branding, and so £30 seems the usual price for something like this.

I'm guessing this would be no good for a Spotting Scope that weighs around 1kg? (Probably a dumb question, but, anyway).
Can anyone recommend a decent tripod that can handle something weightier, and doesn't cost the earth?

This looks like one of those cheap nasty tripods from Jessops you can buy for £15, but with the Leica brand slapped on... But that's just from looking at the photo, you can see from the crank handle that it's a plasticky mechanism- and any tripod with a foldable support from the legs to the central column is questionable...
