It's not a very powerful PC, so its uses would be for browsing/Kodi/Netflix etc, possibly some pop-cap games. Arguably if you're going to spend £40 on a Kodi box in your living room, these are pretty much the same size and have full Windows 10 (so you could do more). Has built in Wifi, so you connect it to any TV around the house. I don't have a use for it personally, but somebody else out there might.
Amazon Lightning deal (both prime and non-prime), if you don't like it you can always return it. More importantly, they are around £125 on Ebay and other sites so the discount is legit (not fabricated). Can't see them cheaper anywhere else.

Mine arrived today. Setup was a breeze.
Now it is neatly (well as neat as can be given my TV does not have the correct VESA spacing for the bracket) ensconced behind my TV with a USB TV stick doing the job of my old full sized PC.
And what's more it does it silently and with out interfering with FM radio reception in the same room like the old one did when it was on.

Yes for what this is and what the market is like today, £79 seems a good price. Certainly won't get a Windows device any smaller than this for this sort of money, except perhaps the HDMI sticks but those have limited inputs, usually the older Z3735 and all round just seem a worse design.

It would seem the new chip is just faster and more reliable. I don't think it scored lower on the tests because of heating problems, if anything I think the results were probably affected by other factors and arn't entirely accurate. If it did, to be honest I would rather it run throttled and cooled as opposed to overheating/shutdown. If you see "Richard Steels" comment on the below article he is wondering if the new chips fix the "overheating" issue the devices have. The newer chip might of addressed this.
Also see Kaiwa's and etcha's comments on the below article pretty much backing my assuption about cooling. It's a cooler and better built machine with the new chipset.
All that aside, £79 for a NEW machine to me is a bargain!

It'll be fine for me. I'm not the kind of person that needs everything downloaded, in 4K, with ridiculous container extensions. If it can play bog standard MP4's, it will be fine. It will mainly be used for YouTube and Netflix.

They may well have only released the Z8350 with a tiny increase to the boost clock speed and no other changes. If the Z8300 proved rock solid stable then to maximize profits, they may well have increased the boost clock speed on the exact same chip and re-released it as Z8350 to offer a 'newer' chip in a period they had not worked on a real new chip for release in that sector of the market. This would then let them hold the price steady. This may also explain why some reviews rate the new chip performance lower as on boost it would generate more heat and perhaps have slight problems. Though this is all speculation and would depend on individual device cooling anyway.
This wouldn't be the first time something like that happened though. I had read that the GeForce GT610 is exactly the same as the GeForce GT520.

True, about the Z850 only being slightly faster, my main reason is that I do like to purchase new hardware. I would imagine the year difference in manufacturer could mean the Z850 runs slightly cooler aswell. There would be no evidence on the web to prove that it runs cooler, you have to think why else would they release another CPU of such close spec? An upgrade of 0.08Ghz hardly seems worth it otherwise. These things auto-shutdown at 90C, so every little helps I guess. They're both Braswell socket, maybe the new one has a different motherboard too. Who knows! I'm certainly not banking on that though.

Mine was actually new from China and came with the Vesa mount (as did all of these I saw advertised last year). As for Z8350 being better than Z8300, they are virtually identical, very little in them at all. Some benchmarks actually have the Z8300 being better, see below, first has the Z8300 better, second has Z8350 better.
Actually got my price wrong, checked order history and bought last June, it was this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111962420906. Price was £59.99 before discount, seller promo had 25% off if you bought 3 items from their store so I bundled a couple of £1 items that looked ok bringing the price down to £44.99 (or £46.48 total with the extra items), then had an eBay voucher for £5 off. Basically paid £40 for this and got a couple of little items for 74p each (not that what I paid for it really matters).
Another use case you could consider (apart from the obvious given the Vesa mount). It runs off 12V natively... car PC anyone?

Seems pretty cheap. The difference between this and yours is this is the newer -V version with a better CPU (Z8350 vs Z8300) and newer hardware. They grabbed the picture on the listing for the Z8350, but in actual fact its a Z8300 as stated in the description. Obviously the one I linked is new, as opposed to used.
I think I saw in the comments for the one I bought, that you need to log into windows and manually activate with the code, and it and it should work. If you bought yours second hand (the ones you linked are obviously used/second hand returns), they probably didn't supply a code. Either way you got it up and running which is good, and cheap. I would probably stick with my order for piece of mind, and the newer hardware (and VESA mount) which pays for itself! But thanks for linking. If I like it alot, I can pick up another from here. :smile:
I got a Z83 box that looks the same last year, paid about £45 but I got lucky as managed to combine a seller specific offer and eBay offer to get that cheap. Thing to check for with these boxes is that Windows is activated correctly. Lots (including mine) weren't, contact seller immediately if not, my seller sent me around 5 different codes before one worked. All good now. Also the installed Windows is likely the Chinese region release which only has Chinese and English, so you cannot just upgrade the existing Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro using a normal worldwide Pro code, you would have to wipe the box and install Windows 10 Pro from scratch.

Nice! I think the mounts that come with it are underrated. It's the difference for a device literally take up no space (assuming it works with your TV). Space can be valuable with living room stands, and it means less visible wires.

Yesterday I saw it was an upcoming lightening deal and decided to bite if dropped into the '£70 something' area .... only just :smile:
Should hopefully replace my old living room PC which is big, noisy and overpowered given it's use.

I honestly think its a good deal, I did a search for this device AND Mini PC's (of any model) historically and there isn't much that comes close to this. For £80 you can't really complain.
