Shocking item bought one and you have to take the lid off for drink to pour due to suction cold added

I wouldn't describe it as shocking but you are right - I was suprised that they haven't added a small non-leak vent of some sort in the lid to allow it to work properly with the lid closed.

You can pick up Kilner-style dispensers in Home Bargains, not official Kilner branded ones.

Bought one at Robert Dyas and it's amazing. You don't have to open the top - just release the toggle so it is not airtight. The lid can stay on

Kilner must have noticed the design flaw because newer ones remove the signature closure mechanism and just have a cork bung. I have one and have no issue using it. Still a nice piece of kitchen/garden equipment.
Also check Amazon from time to time. The old version was £10 only a few weeks ago. Currys seems to have sporadic/limited stock in some areas.
And a note on the cheaper variety in Wilko or Tiger. does the job I guess, but these Kilner versions are made for life. (i hope)

Wilkinson sell a good cheaper version with a tap, but it has a screw on lid, not the kilner type.
