Kaspersky Antivirus Free is not available in the UK until September or October, but can be downloaded now from the US website. I have just downloaded and installed, and all was fine. I know that some can get the full version free from Barclays (I can't), and some can get other paid solutions free from elsewhere, such as ISP's(I can), but for those that use free AV, it should be solid, and is apparently advert and nag screen free, which is a big plus for me.

I know what he said and didn't twist his words, I left his quote word for word intact. Are you seriously suggesting that only Windows XP is affected by ransomware because if you are then you're out your depth commenting on the subject already? I don't even know why you're mentioning Kaspersky and jingoistic Americans. My comment was solely rebuking the claim that anti viruses were no longer much use since the advent of Windows 10 which is utter nonsense since infecting a Windows 10 PC with no protection is infinitely easier than infecting a Windows XP machine with up to date anti-malware software installed.

Your first link takes you to the same page as the get deal button, and the second, I assume, is inserted by HUKD so they get paid, and is nothing to do with me. I posted the deal in the normal way. I'm not sure, to be honest, of the point of your post, unless you are accusing me of something.
Most anti virus scanners are viruses to me, they slow down your machine and network. Just keep installing fresh version of Windows ( Format PC first) and don't click on dodgy links
If you type kaspersky.com into your browser, you are redirected to the correct site based on your ip address, in our case kaspersky.co.uk, and this offer isn't there because, as I've said in the post, the offer isn't available until October. The site usa.kaspersky.com is the official site for residents of the USA, where the offer is available.
is the usa really the correct american Kapersky website or a drone for someone else?
And what's with the affiliate link?

I've used Panda Free (used to be Panda Cloud) for the last couple of years and never have any bother from it at all. No nags, no notifications, nothing. Only time I get any sign of it running is when it blocks something (usually a PUP in a bundled download, not seen a virus in years). Best AV I've ever used from a user POV, and scrubs up well in the AV tests too.

I have tried a lot of Antiviris progs (free and paid for) and now use Kaspersky Total Security. I got a few licences free with Barclays and paid a few quid for a few more. I use it on my Windows 10 and Android devices and have installed it on family's devices as well. I found that all the free Antivirus packages had nagging screens or other methods of getting you to upgrade. Trial packages are okay but you then need to pay or uninstall and get another package after the trial. If this is free with no nagging screens then it may be an option in the future but as others have said I would need to see what it included compared to the full paid for packages.

I know, I've seen it now. It makes no mention on the website or on the blog, though. We'd have to see what happens in a year. Does it self destruct, or auto renew indefinitely?

When you install it and start it, and go into license details you'll see 366 days remaining
Man, you should to know a little more about the past of Eugene Kaspersky person before you install this. Also, there is no former kgbists, remember that.

I suspect it will be like Avast Free that also has the 'License expires in x days" but you just renew it when it gets close for free.

There is currently no ban in place. There is a defense bill in progress where this might happen (not aimed just at Kaspersky, but all that fall into not being based in the west effectively).
As for being a backdoor....lol. As has been said a million times: post evidence.
Other AV vendors, net sec professionals, and thousands of people in the industry would love to have the evidence, as it would make them very rich. Until then, it offers by far some of best protection on the market. If you use AV, it's a good one to use.

btw, I use Kaspersky and consider it good. Whether there is a FSB backdoor I don't know, but there is currently no evidence of this. If ever there is, I will remove Kaspersky.
Just because a few jingoistic Americans refuse to use the product is not evidence.

Don't know if maybe it's because I tend to know what I am doing (plus I might be lucky), so even when visiting not standard sites every now and then, or installing programmes which I am unsure where they're coming from (after passing them by the windows AV)... I've never had a virus that I can remember.

Me too, I've not had a dedicated AV, other than the standard Windows one for years. And I'm constantly on the web, so not quite sure about the benefits of a 3rd party one. I don't even know how they manage to sell them even, as most likely is that whoever buys them doesn't know the difference (if any) with the windows one, which comes by default anyway...

Thanks, but why? I'm with Barclays but the full versions of all these anti-virus programs are massive and slow down your pc and your internet connection (checking all the websites you visit etc) and they _still_ won't stop you if you are an idiot/naive. Best to choose a free version and install a few of the really necessary features of that. Ps And don't tell everyone on Facebook etc your full life story

kaspersky and bitdefender are the best free ones with bitdefender free you have to set up an account at their website box pops pops up after installation to log in and uses same definitions as paid for version.and anti phising and anti fraud incuded amongst other freatures:A nd no nag pop up boxes.. bitdefender.co.uk/sol…tml

Because they want you to upgrade to the paid version. That's why most free AV have nag screens and pop ups etc. This, apparently, doesn't have any.

Unless you go on watch movies for free or download driver scanner etc etc or click on every single attachment in an email. You have nothing to worry about. I've not had AV for years. About 7 years . The last one I had was McAfee that genuinely slowed my PC to a slug pace. Then I got Kaspersky, it was better but then I stopped being a student and didn't have the perks of discounts. So I stuck to windows only.

I've been using ths standard Microsoft tools (antivirus, firewall, ) for ages in several computers and I've never had an issue with running processes (performance), viruses detected, updates etc. What is the advantadge of using a third party programme rather than Microsoft's, which is free?

I use the free version of bitdefender on one pc and Avira on another, I like Avira as it has a firewall and gets consistently good results, bitdefender always gets excellent results but doesn't have a firewall, I also use bitdefender anti-ransomware on both , along with common sense, opera browser (with built in vpn), I found avast a bit annoying and both AVG & Avast are now the same company.Voted hot as Kaspersky usually scores really highly.

I take it that this is the anti-virus that Trump wants on all the White House PCs, as it's written by his Russian friends ;-)
Terrible AV. All AVs that use signatures have had their day. I would recommend Cylance which can be purchased from malwaremanaged.com
Kaspersky has been banned in the US because they are believed to have created backdoors in by the Russian developers
