I set this on a camelcamel watch a while ago, but purchased at a much higher price (£28). So far been using it for grinding spices for curries and blending for pastes, which it does really well.
Gets very good reviews and is both a wet and dry grinder / chopper.

Wet and Dry
This powerful 200 W Grind and Chop has wet and dry capabilities so you can create herb oils and curry pastes in the chopper and freshly ground coffee and spices in the grinder.

As someone who likes to cook but needs to expand his repertoire, what would I typically use this for?

I don't see nothing wrong with a little chop and grind. Heat added.

At that price and buying from amazon, I'm willing to take the risk. If it breaks down, amazon will replace it next working day or refund. My Philips airfryer died after 11 months. Had a new one next day. My Samsung TV died after 6 months, had a new one the next day. That one became faulty after 1 month, I had a full refund the next day and I got to keep the blu-ray player and movies which came as package.

Don't trust James Martin! He's a sell out who keeps putting his name to rubbish.
I brought a James Martin hand blender. It was replaced 3x and when the 3rd broke for the same reason I got a refund. The attachment connections wore out.
