So, have the phone now.
Turned on, with Sim in, and couldn't send texts of make calls, due to zero credit.
Signed up to EE online account, and registered phone.
Took around 1 hour for the £10 Everything pack to become active.
Then filled in online form to request unlock code - guy in the EE store said it was £8.99.
The online form said it was free for PAYG.
When the form has been submitted, it then says £8.99 will be removed from credit for PAYG.
As I've got zero credit on the phone, who knows if it'll work or not!

Yeah I agree.
I'm an Honor 8 owner myself so am already accustomed to Huawei phones.
Bought two of these (one for mum, another for a mate) and you simply CANNOT get better build quality and performance from any other phone bought from a UK retailer at this price point.
The P8 Lite has great build quality, the fingerprint sensor is equally as lightning fast as the one found on my Honor 8, performance is fine, albeit not quite as quick as the Honor 8 but fast enough. Camera isn't quite as good as my Honor 8 but easily beats any other camera in a phone at this price point.
NFC is a great added bonus so Android Pay works perfectly in conjunction with the fingerprint scanner.
Huawei really are nailing the budget and mid range market right now.

Been playing with the phone really nice and smooth, camera seems really good and the display is excellent the phone is quite light, the only issue I've seen is that the microsd card doesn't merge with the internal storage when downloading apps, need to look into that more also a screen protector is fitted.

I've just been on EE live chat after checking EE website stock for this p8 show's instock, but when I asked live chat agent Pearl she said if it's showing instock it is! And I would receive phone within two days if I ordered now! Then I gave her my existing oos order number and asked her why I've been told 7 days b4 dpd deliver? Had big long pause whilst Pearl had a look in her BS excuses notes! Then next she said I've escalated this to our webteam as it must be a glitch on website that's why it's showing instock! I asked her to answer me straight but like all politicians she answered questions with questions, wouldn't give me a yes or no. In end she just kept asking me to phone order team as she couldn't access my information!! Just utter BS NON STOP!!! I even told that she would make a great politician!!! What absolute joker's EE.

Ordered Wednesday teatime, no emails or texts received but appeared to go through okay, onscreen order number etc. Thursday was uneventful then mid morning today, Friday, an email appeared, 'call us to complete order' with an accompanying ref#. Phoned the freephone number EE provided and it answered straight away. I was told it was OOS and there would be a delay (next week sometime), and asked if that was okay and did I still wanted to go ahead, said yes and the order was processed.

I spoke to EE about this yesterday as I am on a pay monthly contract. He went away to check if I could buy without the £10 sim, but you can't according to him. He (Jason) was very helpful. So I think you get a sim which you have 30 days to use after first activation, then you put your current sim in.

Yeah Huawei are building some great phones using their own silicon now, but software support is not good enough. It's a shame as on paper phones like this P8 Lite 2017 are much better than say a Moto G5 or Nokia 5.
harrerdarren
25 Jul 17#42
I agree on the support element I have a p9 lite because I broke the screen on my nexus 5x its still only running android marshmallow with a june 2016 patch , I really miss the security updates from nexus and now that I can get a 32 gb 5x for around £180 on ebay brand new open box I might just get another one if they don't upgrade this os soon ??
THX1138
25 Jul 171#41
That's a shame as Huawei's HiSilicon have beaten Qualcomm to market with recent ARM architecture cores, being a lead partner for ARM in many cases, and the performance and energy efficiency of recent Huawei SoCs has been excellent as can be seen in numerous articles at Anandtech.
I don't think you can get anything like as good as the Kirin 655 (2.1 GHz Cortex-A53 on 16nm FinFET+) for £130 from anywhere else.
My only beef with this phone is the OS support from Huawei, if I thought it would get Android O and timely updates I'd buy one for sure.

I am confused in that they mix pay-monthly terms in a pay-as-you-go order, like that "we own the device for the first 6 months" statement in the first step of the order, which clearly refers to a pay-monthly contract.

gsf600y
24 Jul 17#24
Aside from games, how much storage are your apps using?
Agreed app creators are probably happy to use more and more storage, but I really don't think 16gb is very tight.
I've got 16GB, a bunch of apps installed, and am using just over 5GB.
Granted, don't have any games installed.
I'm just looking at my apps now and their storage. Here'sa sample, converted to GB for easier comparison:
Amazon shopping 0.093 GB
Hangouts 0.06 GB
Google Maps 0.220 GB
Barclays 0.120 GB
BBC Weather 0.018 GB
Chrome 0.09 GB
That'll increase over time, but my point it, 16GB is enough storage for quite a few apps.
I think this is a fairly excellent deal for the price.

Bought their flagship P8 when it was brought out and the stopped updates after 11 months. Will never but another Huawei again.
If one uses it for phone calls/text only then there is no need for a smartphone. Otherwise 16gb is very tight use - gone are days when app creators looked at phone space requirements, everyone seems to assume you just have tons of free space.
