I feel this is completely worth advertising as a stand alone deal separate from the rest of the Steam sale. This is a ridiculously good price and if you don't have it, do it!
Absolute masterpiece.

Just a shame Valve no longer make money from creating games, but by taking 30% off everyone else's games sold on Steam.

...I refer back to my original comment: "no longer make money from creating games".
I'm not questioning that they still make money from previously made games and items sold for those games. But that's certainly not my point, and I think you know it.

Shows as $9.99 ... expired or am i doing something wrong?
A ridiculously good price for what is still probably the best FPS ever made. Played through it again about a year ago and it's still excellent although there are some levels that are overlong (the boat trip), but Ravenholme is still a masterpiece and the Gravity Gun is still possibly the best weapon ever in a videogame.
Got it on release day originally and it took hours to get it registered on Steam - IIRC started about 7pm and finally registered about 11.30. Then spent the next four or five hours just wandering around marvelling at it all. The characters seemed to be imbued with life, the tech was a meteoric leap-forward compared to what had come before it.
I remember finding that playground near the start and just playing with the physics for ages. Putting bricks onto one end of the see-saw, jumping off the wall onto the other end and seeing the bricks realistically arc through the air. Sounds pathetic now, I know, but back in 2004 it was like witnessing the future. HL2 didn't just raise the goal posts, it transported them to another planet.

i wish i hadnt played them already. The ants nest is my fav bit but its ALL GOOD! Ashes indeed Danny!
Oh yeah. The long run on the swamp boat was fantastic.AND the beach buggy. AND Ravenholm. (hl2 not episodes) and the gravity gun, and, and,
there are so many favorite bits you just know the world lost something when steam stopped making games.
Lost coast was half lifes own benchmark, believe it or not. ( i get 300 fps at 1080p now ;#} )

Actually, I did speak to Mr Newel on a you tube post and he said HL-3 would not run on skylake or later. and that he 'declared'. Which to me suggests issues with Windows 10 or something and he just got the **** ache about it all.
But its possible they have a beta there somewhere.

It just gets better and better (tho the beginning is a bit b/s as you should have died without bf vest or something).
After that its more do or die.

Yup. It's been talked about for a fair while how insiders have basically said that teams have started and ended on Half Life 3 projects and basically, cutting through the **** - the main reason is that Gabe has no incentive to make Half Life 3 when Valve is making a **** of money from simply maintaining Steam and grabbing their 30%. There is very little to gain from HL3 in their eyes (since they're raking in the cash regardless) but a lot to lose credibility wise if it goes tits up.
I just wish they'd admit that they're not really a game developer anymore and possibly sell off the IP to an actual developer that has some interest and motivation to finish the series for the fans. But apparently Gabe has a hell of an ego, so that probably won't happen.

Lol, - PC, XB360, PS3 & Mac  - It has had a lot. I remember owning this on PC back in the day when I had a gaming rig. - Then when the PS3 launched, £50 for the orange box! .... 69p now seems more reasonable...

Only messing, but it sure has had a lot of releases and re-releases, hasn't it?

HL-2 and episodes some of the best gaming you will get; real proof it is the story creator
and not the software engine (tho valve did actually make 'Source' for HL-2, and made it excellent, probably to make a point).
In fact, modern day hardware the game will likely run on anything; even notebooks.

I owned The Orange Box on PS3 many years ago but never actually played any of it so I have just bought all of the games in it individually for £2.52...which is cheaper than buying Orange Box for £2.99

It's a shame half life 3 is never coming out. It would have been nice to finish the story. Obviously Gabe Newell hates all of us half life fans. But it's pretty clear that valve do not want to release the game because the expectations are so high for it that they will never be met.

isnt making games now almost the same as making a film.
the 3d engine can be licensed, you just need voice actors and audio/graphic artists, and a good plot.

I have very fond memories of late night, headphones on playing on HL2, F.E.A.R, COD 1, good times. HL2 is so much more than an FPS though. I played all of the HL2 episodes and abit of HL1, but I never have fully understood the story. But you dont really need too, the atmosphere and the gameplay is phenomenol. The modern Wolfenstein games come close in some respects.

I didn't think this game was amazing when it came out. I did think Half Life 1 in 1998 was. However looking back at it now it was ahead of its time. I really really hated the mid level loading times though. Far Cry 2004 was way ahead of Half Life in that respect, load the whole level up first.

I remember my first playthrough on a Desktop with 512mb Ram and Integrated Graphics. Physics objects, Barrels, Pallets etc didn't spawn until I was a foot away from them. It took 5-6 minutes to load between levels and everything was a blurry mess in general but by god it was amazing.
