Maybe not but as an LPG (Butane/Propane varying proportions) alternative fuel driver it can be considered pretty low impact as the crude oil refining produces a surplus of this fraction (often seen being burnt off on oil rigs.)
I bet as a modern consumer, there are MANY other more wasteful uses of resources.

There is nothing better than a kettle of hot water for killing weeds.

Factually, that's incorrect.

Cause or effect? Gardening can be an activity with benefits for people as they get older. Standing around burning is not beneficial to your well being. Apart from making you think you're out of a Rambo movie

You need to understand the purpose of these things...
You're not supposed to nuke the weeds out of existence ! You only need play the flame over the leaves until they wilt a little... rupturing the cell walls.
Over the next few days the leaves die back, and either dry out or you can burn them away... this may take several passes before the weed is "dead" but it's more environmentally friendly than chemicals.

Butane is not environmentally friendly & neither are the cans & flexible tube used in the product.
A quick one off spray of glyphosate does the job in one go but just be careful not to over spray.

Do these things actually work?

Not as well as you hope. Ok for spot weeding.

I bought one about 2 years ago, worst thing I ever bought ! It does not work very well i'm afraid :disappointed:
I think the problem also was my expectations were quite high (Thinking of the flame thrower from Aliens at the time lol
I'd avoid it....

Wait till you get older. Bending over becomes more problematical.

I find it useful when, having treated weeds chemically, they have died but don't want to give up their foothold. I then burn of the last remnants. This is on paving and paths.

As above, tried one, but got bored after about ten mins. A fun item, but chemicals/elbow grease are more effective.

Bit of a waste of time actually - fun to use though

Nothing better on a hot summers day than to burn weed in the garden...

I've used a similar one and you do have to be careful around dry grass. Should be OK in Britain normally though

As I've said before a friend in need is a friend indeed but a friend with weed is better! :man:

It's got a naked flame? That's surely not a good idea on summer?
