I totally agree with you, lol.
I was simply pointing out an obvious whatnot etc, based upon what was stated on here earlier?.
That's all ...
But yes, it is a useful Device, I agree with you, I have a few of them already also.
But short of a Google Chrome/Android Box, the Google Chromecast is probably the better way of Casting your Device Screen from Device to Device for this sort of thing for sure! (and cheapest option for it too no doubt ... ) lol. :-)

That doesn't mean the Chromecast is useless, if you're mirroring your phone with the intention of watching a film, then you wouldn't be trying to do something else on your phone at the same time, would you ?
And if for instance you're concerned about potential phone calls interrupting your film, then you can mirror another device, most people nowadays have more than just one device.
So there are solutions, you can't just write off the Chromecast as useless for that reason alone, it's a very useful device at a very competitive price!

It does exactly what it says on the box.[img][/img]
amour3k
12 Jul 17#68
Because screen mirroring 'mirrors' ALLLLL the visible screen content on your phone (like for like) for the moment onto your TV, etc ...
Even when in that 'mode' you do even the most basic of thing's with your phone like standby/screen lock, the then mirrored content on your TV, also goes into that same standby/screen lock mode, etc? (done that, tried that ... )
So, how much more so a dead duck IF while still yet in the 'mirrored mode', you decide to rather turn the phone/device off instead then?.
Then bam!.
That's what I meant ...

"Access content on Netflix & NOW TV"

How exactly do these things work? Do you just plug it into your TV and then it streams stuff from your phone?
diktiomenos to Fration
11 Jul 172#59
You plug into your tv (HDMI port), takes power from USB (usually your TV would have a spare port, otherwise use the power adapter. You set it up easily, and then your phone/tablet/Chrome browser in pc works like a "remote" controller so to speak.
It doesn't "stream stuff from the phone" (though you can download other apps that can to this), but e.g. you want to watch a clip on youtube, you open it on your device (phone), press the Chromecast logo and the phone tells the Chromecast device to go and play the video on it's own. Then, you can do other things on the phone, you can even turn it off, and the video will still play (because the Chromecast has taken over the job).

11 Jul 17#53
I believe £19 (or LESS), should be the regular price for these now like?.
It's more than 1 year in now, these version 2 Chromecast's ...
They SHOULD go the way of the version 2 NOW TV Boxes I reckon?.
After all, since the NOW TV version 2 Boxes launched, I've been buying a few at £15 each where everywhere else was flogging them for £30+
And buying them at £10 a pop when everywhere else was still flogging them for £25+ too! (and the version 2 NOW TV Box is 1+ years in the system too!), and the NOW TV Boxes are arguably more technically advanced too?,, so....
It's not exactly like either Google, or SKY are set to lose any sleep over a couple of pennies to the pound shaved off, are they?. :-(
So what gives ... lol. :-)

Chromecast can't play all file types to TV unfortunately.
alternate is: use a google chrome extension called Videostream. it can then play those files in your chrome tab, which is cast to your TV using Chromecast.
