"4GB/64GB Version" - with more ram and double the storage.
worth the extra £15-£18 to regular one

A real cracker of a phone. The most sought after Band 20 Version with latest android + official global rom so supports ota updates. The offical global version will not be opened and rom flashed like so many others, it will come in a sealed box and have the official rom with all the latest updates

As you can see, the deal has picked up once the iPhone crew have left

Yes there is a way to speed up delivery but you will be almost guaranteed to be stung for import duty if you use the likes of DHL I used the standard free Aliexpress service and from ordering it took 13 days to my house.

I saw in this news article:
gizmochina.com/201…st/

that Redmi Note 4X is in the list for Nougat but not Redmi Note 4.
I dunno whether our model qualifies as 4X or the latter.
Nor have I had tried a custom rom or Miui Global ROM to make comments there.

Please update us on your experience with it after its been going a while eg overheating, call quality, youtube.

Had it a few months now. It doesn't overheat, call quality is great.
damadgeruk
7 Jul 17 #15
Wife and daughter both have Snapdragon 650 Redmi Note 3 phones, no overheating so expect the SD625 in the note 4 to be similar or better due to the architecture (14nm vs 28nm IIRC). My SD652 Xiaomi Mi Max Prime gets warm though never hot.
All running MIUI, we all like it. I have a RN4 3/32GB due so will be able to compare once it arrives. Phones all work flawlessly though I gather there have been reported issues regarding call quality on some RN4s.

I would think in all those tests the s5 would probably still win. But that doesn't tell the whole story.

The Redmi note build quality and speed would be absolutely great.
The camera would be fine, but not stellar.
What you would get with the redmi is a new phone, meaning more updates and community support. You'd also get a massive battery. What good is a phone if the battery keeps running out.

I'd go Redmi

As my family's mobile procurement officer, I've ordered 4 Redmis from Xiaomi Online in the last few months (all standard shipping):
The first 2 came within 2 weeks.
The 3rd was ordered about 5 weeks ago, but for more than 3 weeks has mysteriously "departed from sending country, but not yet arrived at destination country".
In the meantime, the 4th, ordered 3 weeks after the 3rd Redmi, has already arrived here, within 2 weeks...
I'm frankly a little worried about whether I'll ever see the 3rd Redmi, and I certainly won't order another if I need it in a hurry. Otherwise no complaints.

The camera on my Redmi Note 3 is pretty poor and I've heard the Note 4 isn't any better. What's the best best for a good camera phone under £250?

8 Jul 17 #56
I've just got a new mfr. refurbed Samsung S5 for the same price (ish) from Carphone with a 12 month warranty to replace my Windows Lumia 830 - I thought I'd try out an Android phone before taking the plunge. It was a mistake and wouldn't recommend.
The UI is awful and infantile, the camera is poor (pictures are OK but the camera app is terrible & slow), battery life is terrible (although after 3 weeks tearing my hair out I've finally sussed out this is a problem with Google Play sevices & their location history feature - I was lucky to get 7 hours out of it but now get about 22 hours). But worst is the 16GB memory - it's forever crashing (Marshmallow) because it runs out of memory with a minimal app portfolio, so it is a real faff to keep it going. On the plus side, it has a removable battery & Qi charging (via a £3 ikea case). I'm looking at replacing the S5, but this is similar specs really (very similar to the Lenovo P2 specs, which I was looking at as well) & is less than 10% benchmark improvement despite being Octocore. Be interested in views for a S5 upgrade that doesn't come too expensive, decent screen size (5.2 - 5.8") and doesn't have the words "Apple" , "Samsung" or "LG" printed on the phone.....
On this particular phone, I've added heat because it seems good value considering the price. Should have got this instead of an S5 to try out.

I have the Gold version and it looks nothing like as Goldie as it does in the photo's. Looks more Silvery if anything, really good looking phone and build quality is superb.

This is the best budget phone you can get for the money and could match phones costing 3x the price in terms of performance.
MDL199
8 Jul 17 #60
I previously owned an S5 and I currently a Lenovo P2 & Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (as well as a Xiaomi Redmi 4x). There is very little difference in terms of performance between the P2 and Redmi Note 4 and they are both an improvement over the S5. The P2 has NFC which the Redmi Note 4 doesn't.

On the camera front the P2 edges out the Xiaomi not that the Xiaomi's photos are bad they are just not flagship quality.

In terms of value for money the Xiaomi is the best phone on the market and cannot be beaten.

Same reason I won't upgrade from my Nexus 4. This is a really good price and I am so tempted to buy but not including NFC is a huge mistake. NFC and wireless charging are the norm these days, and any serious phone manufacturer should be including them as standard.

8 Jul 17 #79
Samsung is so big now that they can charge very high prices. Take the S8 for example, the phone is roughly £600, it is a very nice phone - but is worth about £200, so you are paying an extra £400 just for the brand name.

In my opinion, apart from no NFC/wireless charging support (major schoolboy error), Xiaomi wins hands down.
BigPro
8 Jul 17 #80
I know, I am right on the edge of buying it, I do need to upgrade - I have had my Nexus 4 for 3 and a half years now (I got it for the bargain price from the infamous Scan deal).

I am wondering whether do buy this, after all NFC/wireless charging isn't essential right.

I am ready to click on order now, so do I buy this now or not?
bellboys to BigPro
8 Jul 17 #81
It depends how much you value NFC/wireless charging, I guess. Personally, I hate contactless payments and their throwback to before chip and pin/potential for fraud mentality that I've even had the capability removed from my debit card. And lack of wireless charging? Would never be a deal breaker for me. Bit of a gimmick...

I just bought the grey version, despite it not having NFC, which is a bit of a shame, although I've only used android pay a handful of times in the last 12 months on my SU6. I've been looking at and comparing numerous phones over the last few days including the Lenovo P2, LG G6, Moto G 5 Plus. OnePlus 3T et al, and bang for the buck I can't find anything to beat it, especially as it's global and will work all over the world on 3G/4G, including the US (which I'm visiting in a couple of months), which my Smart Ultra 6 doesn't. The camera isn't going to be fantastic, but I prefer to use a traditional camera anyway. I've only ever bought one Xiaomi product in the past, which were earphones, and they turned out to be well made and quality, and good value for money for the price. I'm expecting similar from this phone. I could easily afford to spend £700 on a top notch phone tbh, but I just will not do it, as IMO it's a big rip off.

10 Jul 17 #107
Yes, I did finally. It was due to the Google Location History feature in settings causing a Wakelock problem (i.e. continually waking up the phone). I installed a wakelock detector (Wakelock detector Lite, doesn't need the phone to be rooted) and tracked it down from that. I'm on the most up to date version of Marshmallow allowed on the S5, and it still is causing an issue.
If you turn off location history in >settings >location and still have the location mode on HIGH ACCURACY, battery capacity for me has increased from about 5-6 hours to about 24-48 hours now before requiring a charge, and location services are still working fine (apart from tracking where I've been in the past, obviously).

One very annoying thing about Xiaomi phones. The OS, MIUI has no app drawer like pretty much all other version of Android. So you have to place all of your apps on your various home screens, kind of like on an iPhone. OK you can hide your unwanted apps in a home screen far to the right/left hand side but I don't like it and I thought others may be interested to know of this little quirk.

Just search "launcher" on Google Play Store. There's a lot of them. Some of the popular ones would be "Nova", "Apex" and "Arrow". Google has their own called "Google Now" which will give a stock Android feel, but all of them will have lots of customizability. On Android phones, there will be a section in settings for you to choose custom launcher so you can have multiple launchers installed and switch between them until you settle on one. If your MIUI is up to date it is under Settings > Home screen > Default Launcher.

Looking for some advice before i buy this.
Thinking this or the Moto G5. Use a lot of apps on my phone and my Wileyfox Swift battery is not lasting long enough. Seen this has a large battery.
Do people flash these with a different OS when they arrive? Presume the Chinese Gov spyware on these phones is a lie and i wont need to do this?

How do i pay without the warranty? I added to to basket in USA, but as soon as i select ship to UK, it adds the warranty.
I click buy from this seller and then change the drop down to UK from USA... it looks like its going to work but the buy now is greyed out.. presume this is how you get it without the warranty.. once i click save address, it will stop being greyed out?

13 Jul 17 #125
Why has this been expired if the item is still in stock ?
tywyn
13 Jul 17 #126
It seems they come back into stock and the quantities and colours change at will. I managed to get the black version I really wanted at 5:30am on Monday after cancelling the grey version I ordered on Sunday, although there were only 5 pieces available. Also if the ship to country is changed to USA then you don't have to buy the warranty which is apparently worthless anyway after doing a bit of googling. I paid £153 for the black version (including the ripoff warranty), which is a premium on the white at £135. They shipped my order this morning, 2 days after payment, so I hope to receive the phone in a couple of weeks, as my last order from them, which was a pair of earphones took 9 days from order to delivery, but the 1st and only other order before that never arrived.

In their product description they mention Tips:Free Gift = Silicone Case + HD Protective Film, but in the package contents there is no mention. So does the phone come with a screen protector and silicone case or not?
dreadzone101
13 Jul 17 #127
Package contents = what's inside the box whereas the film/case seems to be additional extras included by the seller but chances are they will be bad quality, so I would suggest buying another case and screen protector elsewhere. Some previous comments about them here<<, here<< and here<<. Note: if going for another case/protector, be sure to search for either Note 4X or ones that specify Note 4 Snapdragon or Global Version. Ones that just say "Note 4" will likely be for the original Mediatek model which has a different housing and won't fit this phone properly.

97 gold in stock at the moment.
BigPro
14 Jul 17 #129
BREAKING NEWS: I have just noticed that the grey version is now available in the Official Standard package for US $7 dollars more if anyone is interested in that. I must admit the gold colour put me off as I thought it was a bit feminine before.

Also, I have noticed that it looks like some kid has expired this deal. As both the gold and grey versions of this phone are available in Official Standard package, then I see no reason why this has been expired. Deal is still active.
sm182
14 Jul 17 #130
How do you get the £128 pricepoint? Only see the price in USD?
dpdg99
14 Jul 17 #131
The mobile website is rubbish and I've never found how how to either , you either do it in the settings in the app or at the top right on a desktop

Price has gone up to £133.75 in that case.

my order has "Departed country of origin"

am thinking I may have it next week which would be great, fingers crossed customs don't whack me

omtom23
14 Jul 17 #134
Mine is at same stage. I contacted them about customs charges, and they said that they declare the item value as $49, so even if we get stung it'll be minimal.
Greenwichero
15 Jul 17 #135
I think they sent them all at the same time X)
Hopefully non of us will pay taxes, but the declared value is not the one they take as real to calculate it, that is what I have read. Keep in touch, so we can share our experience from this. Btw, did you buy a case??
delantero
15 Jul 17 #136
I purchased this yesterday and price was £132. Just looked at order now and showing transaction was £165. Would there be any reason for this? Payment has not been taken from bank yet
Greenwichero
15 Jul 17 #137
Ouch! oO
digitalexpertDCE
15 Jul 17 #138
Are you sure it does not say $165 in dollars not GBP.
delantero
15 Jul 17 #139
That's what I thought originally, might be a mistake with dollars or pounds. However definitely shows pound sign next to order and in the order page it shows a supposed screen shot taken during my order with $209.99. This doesn't even seem to be one of the available prices. I had changed price to sterling when I placed the order I have written to them and they have apologised but say all they can do is discount the difference from my next order???
MDL199
15 Jul 17 #140
The longest part of the wait is when it's in the UK but you might get lucky and have it next week.

If you used standard shipping then I'd be 99% sure you won't have any customs charges. I've ordered loads and never been hit.
m14x74
15 Jul 17 #141
thanks for the info, it's my first time using a Chinese company and everything so far has gone well, like you say fingers crossed on the customs and possibly end of next week

I did order a case...2 different ones just to play it safe, and a screen Protector.
Least we can share experiences on here to find the best ones! Like you say, hope we all get them through without being stung!

I've ordered things from AliExpress before, it's usually followed by "customs cleared" or something to that tune. I've even had it as an update on items that were less than a £1 so it's luck of the draw as to whether it's checked
Greenwichero
20 Jul 17 #154
It arrived (it took 11 days), just a day to arrive from the Processing Center (that is in Heatrow), sometimes it takes a while.
Have not checked how it works, just switched it on and it´s OK. The case it´s really bad (but was free, what can you expect...), will buy one today 8).
No complain. I contacted in order to check the plug they send and they answered me the same day.

This one is for my brother.
I already knew the phone well, as I have purchased 2x 3GB/32GB versions few months ago for family members who are extremely happy with them.
Previous to that, mum has the Xiaomi Note 3 and I have the Mi Max both purchased last year.
All phones are excellent and run superfast, problem free with big batteries.
I'm Huge Xiaomi fan now as you can tell. Im sure you will be really happy with it

The waiting is unbearable for me now. I knew it would take a while and was prepared to wait 2 weeks but I've never been a patient person lol. It's not been 2 weeks yet but I've been refreshing the tracking every hour! It's been in the air for about 5 days now - is it coming from the moon? Haha

It's finally arrived in the UK woohoo! People say the processing centre is near Heathrow so I should hopefully get it soon? I'm so expectant that I hope I'm not disappointed somehow.

It's been a while since I used an android phone. Is hangouts still bad? Do I still have to clear cache every few weeks etc? Do android processes still wreck havoc with battery life? Just a few of the things that made me cross over to the dark side. The increasing cost of iPhones is what is bringing me back. Really can't justify the price - and some android phones are following suit now. Crazy
teerex
27 Jul 17 #176
Phone is here and it's absolutely amazing. Can't believe it costs just £131!!!! I always thought people were exaggerating just a bit but seeing it for myself I'm blown away.

Granted, I haven't done much with it yet but it looks like it costs a lot more.

One of my cases arrived today too so that was a bonus as the included free gift of a case was pants really. The free plastic screen protector will do though until the glass one turns up. Next to my iPhone it doesn't look cheap lol

The capacitive buttons at the bottom are slightly misaligned but the top cutouts are mainly OK including the notification light. Sides are OK too but slight colour bleed at the bottom but a thicker case will cover that completely

Sorry to hear that you've still not received yours. It's the luck of the draw sometimes. The first case I ordered still hasn't turned up but later orders were delivered last week. There's just no order to these things. Fingers crossed for you that it'll turn up by weekend.

What does the tracking show
omtom23
4 Aug 17 #183
Just says 'hand over to airline' dated 12th July! Like you say, it is very random. My cases and screen Protector came quick-smart. The seller isn't concerned and just said 'don't worry friend, we are both protected by AliExpress'...!

The 'up to 40 business days' is the equivalent of 2 months, so not overly concerned, just impatient!

Are you still loving yours?
teerex
5 Aug 17 #184
Really hope it turns up as I'm sure getting a refund from AliExpress won't be easy, but should be OK if you paid by credit card.

Happy with mine so far but still trying to get used to android again.
omtom23
8 Aug 17 #185
Thankfully paid by Credit Card...another plus point of HUKD is learning how to protect transactions!

As for delivery...I have a good feeling about this week... :astonished:

12 Aug 17 #186
Any news?
omtom23
12 Aug 17 #187
No news. Contacted seller again, and they just gave me stock answer about long delivery times, and 'not to worry' as we're both covered. I can ask for refund on 30th Aug. Resigned to the fact that it's lost in transit.

Thankfully my Xperia Z2 has been behaving perfectly well since ordering. Will still look to buy a Xiaomi once refunds done though...which will probably take ages!
tywyn
16 Aug 17 #188
I've had this phone a few weeks now, but tbh I'm not at all impressed. While the hardware spec seems pretty decent, the software is buggy as hell, even after upgrade to Nougat and MIUI 9. Lock screen notifications don't work properly, and when I just did a hands free call, the handset started dialling random numbers and hashes etc. I only bought it to go to America in September as my SU6 wouldn't work on 3g/4g out there. As soon as I'm back the heap of crap that is the Xiaomi Remi Note 4 is going on ebay.
digitalexpertDCE
16 Aug 17 #189
MIUI 9 is a beta/developmental build at the moment. I am on the stable MIUI 8.5 with Nougat and don't have any software bugs.
tywyn
16 Aug 17 #190
It was the same when I had Marshmallow and MIUI 8 on the phone. try getting ebay or amazon notifications to work on your lock screen. I've trawled the net for a solution, but there isn't one. It's just a buggy piece of crap.
sadsacdeals
16 Aug 17 #191
Loving mine still and I'm also just updated to the stable MIUI8.5 with Nougat. I do find it annoying that still have to do two finger swipe down to expand notifications. I use Nova launcher.
timj13
18 Aug 17 #192
Sorry to say that you "probably" wont get it mate. The samething happened to me, same shipping message, just stuck there for 2 months.

If i was you i'd give it maybe 1 or 2 more weeks and then start the "dispute" "refund" process. Aliexpress are good and they will refund you eventually but you have to wait the full 60 days. After that i got refunded in 2 days.

Hope you get your phone but i didnt, recently and i had to go through this whole process
omtom23
18 Aug 17 #193
Definitely resigned to it now! Can't decided if it puts me off ordering again, or of I just put it down to a one off bad luck...but like yourself, I'm hearing more and more reports of the same happening. :unamused:
omtom23
29 Aug 17 #194
Didn't arrive. I've got an s7 edge instead now. I am however now stuck with 2 nice Xiaomi cases and 2 screen protectors! If you would use them, I'll post them for free if you pm me.
