I'd agree, unless its a very expensive induction and even then I'd still rather have gas.
I'd argue that electric hobs are more dangerous as far as I'm aware they don't turn themselves off unless its an induction hob.

We have a cheap induction hob. It's OK but it doesn't hold temperatures well. At high it's fine but when you lower it, it sorta pulses heat on and off which doesn't really work that well. I don't know if they all do that but I don't know if I'd have bought one had I known this previously, plus buying new pots is a hassle. That being said it still looks amazing as spilled food never burns.

Induction hobs are great in as far as the heat settings are very direct and fast, like gas. What I mean by that is if you set it to 7 it immediately changes to that setting without the delay that a normal electric hob has. We have a cheap induction hob, and the biggest problem is that you can really only use one burner at a time. Mostly not an issue, but if I ever replace it I will spend the difference and buy one that can heat more.

Every B&Q click n collect order I've ever made has resulted in an email the following day advising me that my order has been cancelled. They are absolutely useless so best advice is to call the store and ask them to put one aside for you (they'll probably mess this up too but at least u have a chance)

Yes they all do, it is how induction works at lower levels.

This is why the hobs with 15+ power levels are better than a hob with 7 power levels. At full power they will be nearly the same, but when you are trying to simmer, the cheap hob will burn everything.

What you also find with many cheap (and some expensive) hobs is, you cannot have certain pairs of hobs running at full power, each one will pulse at full power, then the next will pulse at full power; ie, they only have enough juice to run one plate at a time..

Fantastic post. Well that explains why my hob turns itself off when cooking large meals. I think next time I'd go for a mixed hob with different cooking zones, say half gas half induction.

Don't confuse induction with ceramic or other electric hob. Induction hobs are fantastic, controllable like gas and ultra efficient (try putting your hand at the side of a pan using gas you will feel the heat escaping, with induction there's little if any heat at all). You may need to replace your pans though........

I am not sure you can get that combo, but good luck.

What I used to do is use one side for initial heating on the most powerful induction plate, then switch them to the lower power plates for simmering; as the power is pulsed anyway, sharing a supply isnt an issue.

I dont have this issue to the same extent with my current Samsung Hob; the only thing you cannot do is have the "Boost" power on all 4 plates at the same time; it will happily run 2 though; in this case the limitation being the supply current (it auto senses what the wiring will allow).

Induction (with the right pans and not those awful alu with a steel plate jobs); is immensely quicker than gas at heating things up. I used to work with a semi professional gas hob, and a 2 gallon pan of water would take around 30 minutes to reach boiling point on the large centre burner. The same pan on a 2KW Lidl stand alone induction hob took around 10 minutes

Great price for a 7Kw hob if you can get one. I have a similar rated induction hob, you shouldn't have any issue running all 4 ring at the same time.

Just check any existing wiring and breakers you're using are correctly rated for this.

I have one of these, always had Gas before and would never go back to Gas. They are easy to clean and have the same instant heat control as Gas and unlike other Hobs you can't burn yourself. One downside is if your pans don't have the right metal in the base you will need to replace them all.

As I said in my previous post, some hobs share a supply between 2 plates- something that WASNT mentioned in any of the literature for my previous (expensive) induction hob, so a 4 plate hob is really a 2+2, where only 2 plates can get power at any one time, and the hob pulses power between the paired plates if you use both at the same time..

Also depending on the hob, the total output for all the plates can easily exceed a standard 30 amp cooker feed; my Samsung can pull 45 amps with all four plates going, and that is without boost; hence the current sensing hardware.

Cooke and Lewis Induction hob absolute rubbish won't Maitain heat on low setting so you have to have it on 7 8 or 9 and it burns everything. Just not fit for purpose, we had a Samsung before and that was induction and you could put it on a low heat and it would simmer food for as long as you need. Had the power unit and touch control replaced by the manufacturer and guess what still the same and the repair man said " well it's made in China so what do you expect it's how it is" better off with a £10 camping stove.

I would like to point out that large chunks of whatever device you used to upload your post were made in China; "Made in China" does not equate to "cr~p" these days. Although I will admit that in Apple's case, it is true.

So guys, fitted mine on Wednesday. yesterday got a chance to cook rice on it.

the hob does make some noise. The buttons beep is low, and maybe a bit annoying. The timer is great. Theres a timer that only beepds, and there's a timer that can turn the hob off. to turn the hob off by the timer just select the hob and press the timer button, choose your minutes and voila


Yes, it pulses on any setting lower than 7. I cooked the rice on 9 for a couple of minutes then 4 then 3. and no, it did not burn. the pulsing happens very quickly. I know if you had better hob before it might not be ideal, but me coming from a **** electric cooker im more than happy... so far.

Anyone manage to use this with smaller pans? As one of the reviews said it only works with 20" pans? Also did it come with a plug or just wiring?

Or it can be wired into 13amp plug if you're into electricity.
