Good deal and heat added. IIRC they dropped the SPDIF optical out on these newer units, needed that on the other model.

When are they going to bring out a new version? The RAM could do with an upgrade, say 6GB and the ROM needs to be a lot more than 8GB...it fills up quite quickly once you start side-loading the 'recommended' apks!

Isn't this about due an 'Amazon Day' type reduction?

You can just use a SD card for apps

Really not trying to be sarcastic or anything, just lack of knowledge but why would someone buy this? Kodi doesn't work in 4k? and surely any 4k tv would be a smart tv so you can watch the normal apps? Please someone help, although I'm not sure what I would do with it, I feel tempted to buy it

There are some plugins for 4k withing kodi, however every time I've tried to play 4k the box couldn't handle it, it's great for 1080p and it's much more responsive than my fire stick, but shouldn't really be marketed towards 4k imo

I've bought one when it was on offer just because it supports H265 hardware decoding in the "recommended apps" (unlike the first version).

Ohh nice. Does that directly hook into plex and playing library content that's encoded in x265?!

Yeah, I don't get it either. Maybe people using a monitor? I don't know. Seems pretty niche. Unless of course at the digital input end it's no extra cost to make it 4K so they might as well, at least it advertises that amazon have some 4K content.

Think deeper , kodi libary functionality + 4k content stored on a NAS .This will be best the conduit to play those file types

Hot, purchased. Been looking at them for a while, hummed and harred but finally pulled the trigger. Don't really watch that much TV but I do like the functionality of these... at least I hope I do (will).

Arrived today, perfect condition with all the usual covering cellophane and brand new set of wrapped batteries. Setup was a breeze, it's on now. By the way, for those that aren't aware, side loading apps is really easy from your android phone to the Fire TV box with an app called Apps2Fire (just click that link). THIS VIDEO shows Kodi app being sent to the Fire TV from an android phone but if you watch the start it explains how to setup the app to sync with your Fire TV.

People will buy these because every TV Smart OS is garbage, Samsung, LG, Sony, I've used them all and their interface and speed of use etc is nothing like that of a box designed to do just that.
I've just bought a 8bitdo zero bluetooth game controller too, (£5.91 from Gearbeast), I'm hoping it will work well with Amazon's games on their Appstore too

Been fancying an upgrade as I have the version 1 of this as it supports one of the newer codecs but the wifi remote as opposed to the V1 Bluetooth seems a step backwards along with the optical out port being replaced. Hmmmm decisions decisions.

It is a good deal, but unless you are an amazon prime member it would be better to get the Xiaomi Mi Box ( The android TV One) for about the same price. It has chrome-cast built in included, and it's OS is considerably better than the crappy UI amazon bundles in their fire devices. I have recently migrated from firetv and cannot recommend it enough.

Not really . I have this and Nvidia 4k shield tv player. Amazon picture quality and user interface is much better using this than I get using Amazon app in shield TV player even though both are 4k . You must be using firetv stick which has limited memory , poor bandwidth and poor resolution compared to this 4k box

Yes very easy watch iptv on my fire tv. I say this is a better platform compare to the shield for the iptv side.
I bought one of these for a bedroom, after two minutes of playing I knew it wasn't for me. Not as good as an Nvidia Shield and lots of Amazon rammed down your throat. The advantages it has I guess is that its fairly cheap and does 4k with all domestic apps built in. With a shield your paying a premium price and have to cast some UK domestic apps such as ITV hub to get content on the screen. However, after owning a Renault from new for all of 1 year and then switching to a better brand, I can tell you that sometimes it pays to pay more. This is no exception.
