Hardly surprising as only Halfords sell the Carrera bikes. I suppose you could also say that you haven't found it dearer.

Bikes from Halfords are often good value for money, and this one is.

Why the silly name? What vengeance will a person wreak while riding it?

Unless you particularly want this bike I'd wait they have 50% off sale on bikes which they do at regular periods during year, most bank holiday weekends they have 50 % sale so end of August could be a good time to replace bike

Strange, my 2011 Vengeance has 120mm travel Rockshox Tora TK's, Alivio groupset and Shimano hydraulic brakes. It seems spec'd more like the Kraken mentioned above. It does also have 'Ultimate LTD' on it so not sure if it was a better spec's special edition.

Thanks.

The Carrera Kracken in Halford is now going for £360. Much better spec than Vengence.
Hydraulic brakes, better forks(120mm travel with lock off), better Gear system amongst other things. Just go in and ask. I was gonna get the Vengence but went in and saw this.

Would Halfords do this under cycle2work scheme.
My employer has the scheme, how would it work?
Do you have to go to Halfords first and request a quote or do you go thru the process at work?

You do realise that Cycle Republic is part of Halfords?
I've had a Carerra Subway 2 for years and still really happy with it. Why buy lighter when its for fitness..
I have another hybrid in Thailand made in Taiwan which was £150 which is similar quality, so there is a big mark up on these bikes.

I have had a vengeance for a few years now. Great bike IMO. I use it a couple of times per week and no problems at all. Just change tyres ASAP - I have set of Continental Travel Contact tyres on and only 1 puncture in 2 years.

Different types of bike. You need to decide what type of bike you need. This is a mountain bike ideal for properly going off road etc but the Pinnacle is a urban hybrid bike ideal for commuting and road cycling but with the added strength to take on rough roads and gravel etc. The Pinnacle would be competing with the Carrera subway and other halfords hybrid bikes.
Halfords import themselves from the far east and directly sell in their stores so there are huge cost savings same as Decathlon but I suspect the margins are fairly slim when they have an offer on, but they hope to make more money down the line by keeping you as a customer buying cycle parts, accessories and servicing. Of course if your sensible and looking to save money after your free 6 week service you'll do all you servicing yourself and get your bits cheap online.

The Carerra bikes - Vengeance and Crossfire 2 which is on special offer at the same price - are unbeatable at £256.
Halfords must be making a loss on this or at least very little profit.
Both this and the Crossfire 2 are incredible value for money. Can't see that it's possible to get better for the price.

Not bad, both have nasty front mechs and triples up front. Shame they don't move to 9sp rear and 1 chain ring up front (weight and cost savings?), would make more sense. Had a few Carreras over the years, good bikes, just be thorough checking over if collecting as they don't always set them up well and the bottom brackets can be rough and brakes/gears not 100% setup.

Probably ok for smaller riders but there has been recalls on Btwin frames mainly effecting the larger frames. It seems they didn't reinforce the frames for the extra weight of the heavier/taller riders. They also had a recall on 4 years production on some e-bikes. I'd have a lot more faith in the Carrera frames to not fail. You can see the extra reinforcing around the seat tube and elsewhere. This is an extra manufacturing process that costs money. If you are a heavier rider or likely to give the bike more abuse you are probably better off with the Carrera. Also the Carrera wheels are 32 spoke compared to 28 which everything else being equal will make them slightly stronger. The drivetrain I slightly prefer on the Btwin but I think overall the Carrera is the better and safer bike.
I would rather ride an apollo than a Carrera :stuck_out_tongue:

Lol. My comment was in response to the idiots that posted about 10 times saying they'd found the bike cheaper at Amazon. Thankfully they've been deleted now.

I've found Halfords can be good value for parts, as they price match some stuff with Wiggle/ Chain Reaction but you can avoid P&P by picking up items in-store. It's particularly good when they have a 20% off flash sale: I recently got an SRAM cassette and chain that were price matched + discounted a further 20%.

Spend £7 less and go for a Rockrider from Decathlon
Why? It weighs a bit more and has an 80mm own-brand fork.

Got this bike a year ago for about the same price. Great bike and simple to build if you have some experience (my only experience is repairing punctures)

Carrera is an exclusive Halfords group only brand. So they are basically available at Halfords, Cycle Republic and Halfords ebay shop. Looked at one of these today in Halfords and looked great quality.
