I bought a couple of different ones last year, but wasn't particularly impressed. My tablet wouldn't allow set up so had to use a desktop. Might have just been me. Also didn't find the range of products to buy using it to be good. Very restricted. IMO any products sold by Amazon for that company should be available, not just certain pack sizes or varieties which were often more expensive. Certainly was a one use only thing for me.

Yeah, shame at the price - 99p last year.
Saw that these went up on some of Amazon's other markets today at €1.99 and thought hmmm! Let's hope it isn't £1.99.
An FYI, last year you could press the button, cancel the order and use the £4.99 on anything, not just the Dash product (so in other words £3 off), but only one per order - so you couldn't order 10 Dash buttons and get £30 off one order.
Also in said other markets they've currently got €5 credit when you watch an Amazon Prime video. Alas we've not got that today either!

Dash buttons work like this:
You buy a button from Amazon for specific products or brands. Say you buy the Andrex button, then you stick the button next to the toilet; when you run out of toilet paper you push the button and the next day 45 toilet rolls arrive from Amazon.
Of course if you have room to store 45 toilet rolls you probably won't run out very often!

I found that when these were on sale last year they quickly removed all the low priced items available for each brand. Bit of a rip off, but it was just about worthwhile doing. You could carry over the discount onto your next order on Amazon (didn't have to be Dash-related)
If anyone can find the thread from last time I listed the cheapest item available for each brand (sure it will be different this month though)

Otherwise it's just a gamble that the price might have gone up really. Although I think if it's gone up more than 10% it doesn't go through until confirmed is that right?

It's on first product order - so once you have purchased the dash button for the brand or brands you are interested in for £1.99, and then press the button to make your 1st product order where you will receive the £4.99 discount e.g.

- order 1kg Vanish Oxi Action which is currently £5 so will be 1p after the discount - so total net cost is £2.01 for the dash button and Vanish product

Control WeMo or Hue lights with it?! Is it me or does that not mean you can turn the lights on with a switch?! That's sounds über modern - a 'light switch'. Who'd have thought have it! If I'd said a year ago "in a years time I'll be able to turn my lights on with a switch", I'd have been laughed out of town for being too ahead of my time. Going to put one in every room I think!

Think bigger! Attach it to the bed - press once for on, once more for dim, once more for off. Beats getting up! I don't think that sort of automation is bad for 99p. Automation is limited only by your creativity.

Agreed. I bought one the day they were released and never used it. I own two bins by Simple Human. The bags for the first wasnt even available on Dash (even though Amazon DO sell them), and the bags for the second were available but not in single packs. Whole thing was a waste of time. Fast forward a year and they've done **** all to address this.
winstonmanc
10 Jul 171#66
Unfortunately they changed the button from the first generation ones, so many of the hacks don't work.
b1g1an
10 Jul 17#67
Not strictly true, very few of the hacks were actually hacks of the button itself, only difference is you now have to use the Amazon app to connect it to your wifi. After that the principle is the same, you set up one of the many ways to detect it trying to join your network when pressing the button and then link that to an action.
In fact, you could argue they're better now as they now use a replaceable normal alkaline battery rather than a soldered in lithium one.

I am bemused by the people buying these Dash buttons. These companies must be laughing all the way to the bank - they must be shocked at how dumb people actually are - I know I am. These companies should seriously be paying you every month to have these in your home, not the other way around lol. I wouldn't even have one of these if they paid me. Also, what's next, making a smaller one and having it permanently attached to you under your skin etc? I bet you that happens eventually lol - people are so dumb it shocks me. These companies own you and control you and like lab rats going for your food pellets you don't even realise it and think they are doing you a favour.
b1g1an
11 Jul 17#78
LOL...they're a £4.99 voucher for £1.99, you can then bin it after claiming if your imagination doesn't see any other possibilities, now who's dumb?

b1g1an
11 Jul 17#80
Bit lost now, are you failing to be funny or do you really not get it?
Master_Yoda
11 Jul 17#81
Yes, you are lost. If people are buying these just to save £3 on their first order and binning them, it's the stupidest way of saving £3. Probably costs more than that to deal with the environment once they hit landfill lol - also think of the manufacturing and transport costs in producing each one and getting them to people's houses. A lot of people are probably buying these for £3 discount and just binning them... I find these things dumb whatever way you look at them.
b1g1an
11 Jul 17#82
Right, just failing then
Would agree binning them is daft though as they're missing out on all the fun that can be had with them once removed from Amazon's shackles.
