I doubt the suspension has lockout so thats going to be a lot of wasted energy.
You can get far better on gumtree/ebay.
The RRP is just a couple of quid more, if you must buy new then Decathlon have good budget bikes.

Cause after about 1 day of riding you'll be lucky if it hasn't broke. Cheap wheels will buckle just looking at a kerb. Be lucky if you can change gears let alone properly, suspension is a complete waste of time and effort, weights about 16ton more like. Save any hassle and spend £60-70 in eBay or scumtree and get 10x the bike

Where is this utopia where people buy high quality bikes and hardly use them then sell them for peanuts? Normally the argument of many bike snobs is high quality bikes are used and low end bikes sit in sheds unused. My local bike shop would do very little for me unless I started coughing up lots of money and my local Halfords has been great when I've used them in the past admittedly a few years ago now. However the quality of service from local bike shops and Halfords varies enormously I know. It would certainly be unfair to label all Halfords as bad and their mid range and upwards bikes are fantastic value and get great reviews. The Apollo range not so much of course. I fix all my own bikes normally unless I buy a new bike locally and only use the shop's services while in the warranty period. I think you are under-estimating the difficulty for some people who are only lightly interested in bikes to make a good secondhand purchase even when using google.

Wheels will buckle even when mounting a kerb, this will render the useless brakes even more useless.

16kg is heavy, very heavy. it will be very inefficient & no fun to ride even short distances.

The gears wont work properly.

Almost all components / nuts / bolts will seize & rust making maintenance impossible; even adjusting the seat height will prove tricky.

Full suspension is definitely not required for the riders this is aimed at (nor is front), it will be ineffective, adds weight and adds more things to go wrong.

£60 will get use a used bike that is x10 better than this and will still be worth £60 when you shift it on; the scrap man would probably turn this down!

Sorry to be so blunt but this is not a deal, its a waste of £60, is borderline dangerous and WILL put you off riding a bike ever again.

You comment assumes that they can make an informed opinion about what is a bargain new bike. I am going to tell you a story about buying a new bike, I'll keep it short, basically as I child I saved over multiple birthdays/xmases to buy a new bike, with the help of tony the tiger vouchers and halfrauds I was able to get something. First time out it the front wheel buckled due to the mudguard being poorly attached throwing me off the bike and in front of oncoming cars. A new bike doesn't guarantee either quality of components or safety.

If you expect to go on ebay/gumtree and just get a bargain straight away maybe you are expecting a bit much, people wait on hotukdeals for deals to come up so to be fair you should expect that from gumtree/ebay too.

I have bought bikes for all of my kids from ebay/gumtree and yes I do know what to look for so that has helped me to pick up bargains, but google is your friend so a bit of research will help. So just google "second hand bike checks" then you can avoid issues.

Very few of the bikes I have looked at have required any work, there are loads of bikes that have been bought and never/rarely used.

As I said if you don't know the checks to do google it.

Lastly if you go to your local bike shop, not halfrauds, they are likely to do some quick checks for free.
One of my mates bought a £1500 bike from Halfaruds and they hadn't even indexed the gears properly, the bike shop at the trail center fixed for free.

Your comment assumes others can make an informed choice when buying a secondhand bike. It's not always easy. A good brand doesn't indicate a definite good bike if its an entry level model and could have a worn drivetrain that needs replacing. Alternatively they could buy a similar bike to this not knowing the difference and have no warranty or right to get their money back. Yes there are secondhand bargains but you also have to be skilled enough to know the difference between them and very bad secondhand deals. Many want the safety of a new purchase which they can return if necessary.

I've just checked ebay up to 60 miles range from where I live for 'buy it now' bike in working condition with good components £60 or less and there honestly is nothing there. They are either bikes that need fixing, vintage that need fixing and restoring or bikes pretty much the same as this bike, low end, freewheel based mountain bike shaped objects. Another look on shpock brings up nothing of worth with the same criteria. Maybe in a large city it would be different but certainly in my neck of the woods nothing of worth. If your lucky enough to have a mate that will sell you his old bike below market value then great but beyond that I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong though I've bought good bikes very cheap but they all needed attention, often with a few new parts here and there and a proper service. That's expensive if you have to get someone else to do it. Also those deals only come up very occasionally.

If you actually read the post, I suggested you can for the same money get something far better on gumtree/ebay. As a velotech gold mechanic (yes I am an expert) I have had the misfortune of seeing many of these bike like objects. They fall apart easily and cost more to repair than the initial outlay. So the advice is still the same, if you have only £60 to spend buy second hand.

In all honesty the last time a purchased a bike that cost this much it was truly awful. The gears wouldn't change well at all. Had someone try and tune the gears and it was hopeless. But this bike however may be a better bike who knows? But I wouldn't risk it myself. Hope this helps

A bargain at £57 despite being a basic full suspension type bike but soo not worth £229 or anywhere near it. This is a mountain bike shaped object. Only really usable by children and light adults for very light off roading and realistically a rather inefficient gravel and road bike. Not ideal for any type of cycling really and also requiring more frequent maintenance and adjustment. The best cheap bikes are fully rigid. When you are buying a very cheap new bike keep it as simple as possible.

Heat given for the price but past experiences with full suspension cheapo bikes is that they are so uncomfortable it ruined the get out n go.
I'd probably bought 4 bikes of this style and cost in the past as I really wanted to ride but each one got ridden a handful of times then sold and it put me of mtb.
A final attempt but this time spent more on a carerra and finally found it fun and comfortable.
You don't have much to lose at this price as you can always sell it but if like me you don't like it then look at spending a couple hundred instead, it's worth it.

Heat from me!. Even it gets my boy out of his room for some of the hols. It's worth it. Seems to be over £200 else where, toys r us and very. Mixed reviews, but that can be people not capable of basic bike maintenance.
