I followed the tariff upgrade. And ended up paying £9 extra on top of the £58, so this deal cost me £345. Still a good deal. I called o2 4 times and every time I got the same answer. 30 days notice

just an add to my recent posts, I did the three trick but to save my sanity after getting grief from someone on another thread who said it didn't work even though I had see the phones work with 3 different sims put in unlock requests and all 4 phones were unlocked within 24 hours. just need to wait for the final bill being generated, then check credit file and happy bunnies all round

done it with three phones in the last two days no issues at all, first guy I spoke to did try and say you had to pay the 30 days, told him I had it on webchat which I did that that was not the case and he went away and spoke to his manager and said as its in the 14 days cancelation period we do wave it. You have to pay off the device first though, the other phones I was ready with the 14 days, second girl was so nice she said normally we ask for 30 days but since you are in the first 14 days....

Save your sanity. Don't ever call and speak to an O2 agent.

Instead, log in to your O2 account online and "upgrade" to their cheapest, £9 a month SIM Only tariff. You pay off the device plan at the same time (this is the point of upgrading from Refresh to SIM Only). After that, go on to Live Chat and request a PAC. Port the number out to another network's PAYG SIM. If you do it before 5pm the number will port tomorrow.

No 30 days notice. No talking to O2 agents.

Ok thanks
If it doesn't unlock and i have cancelled airtime... What would I do?
eslick
1 Aug 17 #89
It can take 14 days to unlock so don't wait. Yep pay off and cancel in the same call the rep will probably ask you if you want to. Make sure you say you are cancelling in the 14 day period.
nseaman
1 Aug 17 #88
Bought an se... Requested unlock. Should I wait for this before paying phone off and cancelling airtime?

Also do you pay for phone and cancel airtime all on the same call to O2?
eslick
31 Jul 17 #87
Picked up ours this afternoon, mint not a mark in it, 11.5 months worth of warranty and needs unlocking, also bought 3 SE's perfect all came brand new never been activated, did the three sim trick to lock them to that and then added other sims all worked as the trick goes, called up and paid off the devices and first guy we spoke to said you needed to give 30 days notice told him the truth had confirmed on webs chat that wasn't the case went and spoke to his manager and they did it from tomorrow so no notice, second one girl started to say you need thirty days, but when I said it's in the fourteen days cancellation period she said straight away yes and we will cancel from tomorrow. Final bills generated in fourteen days will check and make sure all is good, then check of credit file to make sure it's been closed correctly.

The like new ones have different grades. I got an iPhone 7 Plus Perfectly Fine on Refresh and I plan on not cancelling. It has some light scratches on the back but other than that it's in pretty good shape. I knew what I was getting.
I also got an iPhone 6 perfectly fine for my partner a while ago and that one didn't even have any marks.

You don't have a universal credit rating. Lenders all score you based on their own criteria. What the agencies like Experian give you is their score, which is meaningless at the end of the day as they're not the ones lending you the money (and we see plenty of times people boasting about perfect scores being rejected for credit); it doesn't even take into account your income as they don't know that.

What can cause an impact is the credit search file that O2 perform, mainly if you get rejected or have many searches done in a short period.

It gives an option to buy the device in full so therefore you'd just be cancelling the air time contract , how would this show on a credit score.

These O2 refresh deals are obviously having an adverse effect on a number of peoples credit scores. I'm the last one to stand in the way of a bargain, but shouldn't we stop publicizing them here until more is known? As always it's buyer beware etc. but the people who have already been screwed over by them obviously acted in good faith, presumably from the many such deals that have been on this site...
KotaMu
28 Jul 17 #58
I had 2 refresh deals in the past 2 years. the 1st one was a real nightmare (My credit file was affected, I had remortgage deals rejected, unable to move utility providers, very very bad experience). Upon seeing the previous deal (iphone 7 perfectly fine for £277)l from June 2017, I decided to follow meticulously all steps and this one was a breeze (although my credit file dropped from 999 to 970 but not really bothered about that). I eventually sold the phone for £370 in my local mobile shop because could not switch to an IPhone and didn't like the interface. Was gonna get this on for the fun of it but it is now OOS :-(
Shame but good luck to the ones who got it but please save all details to cover your back just in case.

not really, there are many who will say they are used, but the last deal on here showed most people were getting them that had been piling up in the warehouse, totally brand new in condition and with plenty of Apple warranty left. On previous deals perfect meant near full apple warranty, mid one 6 to 10 months apple warranty, perfectly fine less than 6 months.

28 Jul 17 #55
Presumably most people will pay off the handset cost and cancel the airtime element as soon as.
You will have a loan with o2 but it will also show as settled.
Contrary to what someone else has said it shouldn't affect your mortgage application, as long as you have paid / are paying with no defaults.

I was with o2 for decades. Then once i renewed my contract and everything was ok when 10 months later i checked my dd and realised O2 was charging me for the internet which was supposed to be free on contract. I spoke to at least 20 people, managers etc. At the end they said to me i was stupid -which is true- and didnt offer anything. So i left them straight away but they messed the account as they didnt send the pac code on time etc. So mever ever o2

Perfectly fine meaning a perfectly functioning phone not necessarily condition.

But I can tell you that mine is as new, not a single blemish anywhere - it's a lucky dip.
androoski
28 Jul 17 #39
I think that Rich069 is saying that this problem doesn't happen to everyone. I can confirm it didn't happen to me.

I think the problem happens when people don't ensure that O2 have properly closed the account and terminated the contract, or they use the SIM after they have agreed to end the contract. Then O2 attempt to take a DD and it is refused, so this will get added to the credit history.

Make absolutely sure the contract is properly terminated and there will be no problem. Of course, O2 can still mess up but if they do then it's down to them and they will have to put it right.

Can anyone quantify, 'Perfectly Fine' is that an dodgy eBayers idea? Or a dodgy PCWorld sales assistants idea of the condition?

How can you have 'perfect, and fine? Both words describe differently. Perfect is no cosmetic marks at all. Fine I imagine means 'Well, yeah, it's OK, mate, but there are a few scratches'

Dont listen to the doubters regarding being "blacklisted". Done the refresh deal 3 times with no issues at all. Never got black listed and credit score was never affected. Think about it, its a loan, you pay it off, so shows you as a good repayer. Ive remortgaged, and taken out loans all since doing them-no issues. Problems only normally arise when it hasnt been cancelled in the right order (pay off phone one day, and cancel airtime the next). Can only speak of my experiences with this, which is problem free, and with no decrease in credit score.

Seems like good deal!! But from previous experience O2 will mess the final bill up and charge you termination costs (several hundred pounds). Just remember to cancel your dd straight after cancelling your contract and pay any final charges over the phone or internet once the final bill gets sent.
Not sure about it negatively affecting your credit score..I have always thought paying off any loan would leave a positive mark?

Got one of these last time it was posted. The deal process worked perfectly and phone is as new, not a single flaw. Apple warranty to March 2018. It's also worth adding that the phone can be unlocked at no extra cost within this deal process.
