I can't afford the iPad Pro. I've not owned an iPad before and have trouble deciding whether to purchase the new iPad 2017 or the iPad Air 2. Both are brand new and are the same price (after discount). The specs on both are almost the same. Which one should I get??

Why are these still so expensive?

Still cheap for an iPad Pro imo, just because it’s getting older doesn’t mean they don’t have to make their money back

Air 2 was the best one they made. The pro added some unnecessary features at a price premium then the new iPad screen got a downgrade to days of iPad 2 by no longer being laminated (gap between screen and glass).

The display is dreadful on the 'new iPad' (comparatively speaking). It's the same one from the 1st gen Air in 2013, how's that for regression... Air 2 if you can get it is the one you want, very fast, great screen and the thinnest 9.7" iPad they made.

Just buy the newer 10.5 version, much better for a little bit more.

I had a10.5 and took it back because it's not much better for quite a lot more money. In my humble opinion.

Microsoft office is free for editing for iPad screen size less than 10.1 inches.

It depends on what you want from a tablet. The quad speakers alone are worth the upgrade, the 2017 iPad should have had it. For a media consumption device not to have it is stupid. Aside from that if you like creative stuff like editing video, drawing/painting or making music, the Pro iPads are the best option. If I was a casual user who game and web browse, I would have just stuck with my Air 2.

Thanks. And yes I agree as others have said the new Pro is loads more at over £600 when the air is £359 on the refurb store.

Good deal. Isn't the John Lewis deal for £549 with 256GB still on? That is better in my opinion.

That deal is still going -gold & rose gold only online.

It's not worth upgrading the air 2.
In fact wait for iOS 11 and see how it runs. The entire tablet industry is going downhill, nobody's wants to upgrade because they just do what phones do. They are just pointless imo.

I upgraded to an iPad Pro 10.5, but my Air 2 is still very quick and had no problems with performance.

The code isn't working on the air 2 for me so is it only for the pro model?

Once you get iOS 11 on this it will be brilliant! I've been using it on my Air 2 and it's totally transformed it

Does the air 2 still run nice and fast with all latest updates? I am on the old ipad 2 which hardly gets used now due to how slow it is. I wouldn't mind an air 2 if it's not yet been slowed by ios updates.

What advantages does this have over the outgoing Air 2, please?

It supports the Apple Pencil, keyboard and has some basic spec bumps. Unless you want to use the pencil or keyboard the Air 2 is a perfectly good device, as is the standard 'Ipad' at £329

I had an iPad 4 (1st Lightning Connector Model and won't update beyond iOS 11) and I did the £100 off trade in deal earlier this week. Got the standard 9.7", 32gb Wifi model for £239. I'll pass on adding heat.

you cant compare Currys with sketchy grey import company.
Opening post
Ok, its not the latest model.
Ok, it will not let you expand the storage with an SD card.
Also, there will be some who will say, go get the latest ordinary ipad instead.
Also, some will say get an android instead.
These are the common reasons why the apple haters will vote this down.
(I am expecting at least 200 cold votes)
However, if you want a higher spec ipad then this is a good price.
Its £489 , but currys will discount £50 if you use the code apple50 (enter code at the "vouchers" section at checkout)
Home delivery is available
1% topcashback. too.
The discount also works on other ipad pros with larger memories.
It is also available (refurbished) on the apple website for 439
