I will still keep using Hermes £3.29 (Not signed) for under 2kg 3-5day and Yodel express pack 48hr under 12kg for £6.50 with code: yodeldirect10. Prices depend on box size.

Because royal mail aren't exploiting workers to deliver parcels at a rate that covers the cost of wear on their vehicles and fuel to leave less than minimum wage remaining.

Postmen get a salary, sick pay, pension etc.

Have increasingly found that the staff in main PO's are ignorant and NOT customer focussed at all, had one knob arguing about the length of a package I was sending, I had measured it with a steel rule and made sure it was just under the limit...this prat was using a roll up cloth tape that he inched from one end to the other and came out over. I had to insist he laid it down and between two of them found it to be under! They treat everyone like they are there doing you a favour instead of an expensive service. I don't care about their special offers, whenever possible I use others

They always try it on; someone tried to charge me £2.90 to post something that was large letter size. I questioned her and told her to use the crappy measuring thing she had perched next to her. Surprise surprise, it went through as a large letter, and when I quizzed she she was like 'oh, my error!' Wonder how many people they overcharge daily? Disgusting business, deserve to go bust!

Yes the internet has indeed increased parcel delivery opportunities yet I rarely see parcel force or royal mail in my area delivering .Its the likes of yodal.dpd.hermes doing bulk of the work and their market share is increasing day by day .just read above comments ,If you really think your business is increasing then it's YOU who needs educating .Royal mail has monopoly on letters otherwise they would be going out of business.Dont get me started on the RM small van driver ,I doubt any have picked up the highway code since a driving lesson.
Unfortunately I need a CPC qualification to get behind the wheel of my vehicle ,shame it's not the same for small vans as well.
bro1973
22 Jul 17 #41
go get educated...i know the business inside out...just look at there profits.speaks for itself.and no they didnt have 90% and 70% years back as they were a letter business mainly..with the rise of internet shopping has come the increase in parcels..as for the driving.don't tar everyone with the same brush and yes if your data is showing below 85% they RM do question it.......just saying lol
rickj
14 Jul 17 #40
Obviously not taking any notice of the data the device shows are they ,but someone at RM must of decided their drivers needed a device to stop them racing around residential areas .Keep telling yourselves the RM parcel service is top class and market share is increasing .Sure they may have 51% share ,5 years ago it was 70% 10 years 90% ,,,get the idea

As a business user of Royal Mail I can honestly say I have never used a worse service and that includes Hermes! They accept no responsibility for loss or damage. They have a signed for service which more often than not is delivered without any network scans or signature. I have around a 2% loss/miss delivery rate. Using parcel2go/parcel monkey you can send up to 25kg on a tracked next day delivery for around £5 so why would anyone pay more for an inferior service
bro1973
12 Jul 17 #38
lol.....i said hermes...the ones with there own cars filled to the roof..then leaving them in bins, doorsteps etc.because some retailers want delivery on the cheap..because non delivery means non payment for that drop.and i can assure you year in year out RM packet volumes is up letters may be falling .no other firm has the network and infrastructure to compete.as i said 51% of the market any company would take that.as for drivers at RM they all have to obey the law like everyone else and vans now fitted with tribble device which show all the driving stats.ie speeding, harsh turning etc you get the idea..
rickj
12 Jul 17 #37
Utter rubbish to suggest their drivers don't have business insurance.would not last a week if that was the case .yes you pay for what you get and the company you obviously work for RM market share is dwindling by the day .I have a friend who is a owner driver for yodel and he leases a new van which needs to be changed every 3 year and proof of insurance has to be logged otherwise no drive. But while you are lifting their so called illegal drivers you can add RM delivery drivers who are one of the worst offenders for bad driving !!

What I find annoying about Royal Mail / Post Office is the fact they ask the contents of my packages every single time - even when I do most of my postage labels online and tick the box saying I'm not sending any prohibited items they still insist!
custardy
11 Jul 17 #34
To those talking about RM and its pricing.
You need to look at the entire business model. Do they really want heavy parcels?
They have a network that must deal with letters,6 days a week.
Smaller parcels take up less space on the network and can be carried in delivery bags/small vans.
How many +2Kg packets can a postie carry in their bags with the other small packets and letters?
They already have a courier arm that is profitable and set up for heavier items.
No doubt this is a dabble to see what profit vs workload the +2kg market brings

I posted something today which was marginally over 2kg (by literally grams!) and it would have been £3.90 if 2kg or under, and then it jumped up to £13.75 as it was literally just over! The person was an ignorant, rude, unhelpful idiot with zero knowledge of her job! Absolute disgraceful company. I went ahead cos I needed to post something today, but NEVER again am I using RM! Use any other service but RM!

Sorry but that person probably had nothing to do with Royal Mail, would of been at the Post Office which is owned by the taxpayer
loofer to ScorchingHot
10 Jul 17 #20
Hang on, it was over 2kg so attracted the higher rate but you wanted that to be ignored?
Even if that person decided to allow it through, it would've been picked up through the processing/delivery end and instead of being delivered, the intended recipient would have to pay the difference in the postage price you didn't want to pay plus an additional handling fee.

As someone who uses RM quite a bit, I find some of their tariffs are puzzling, but I sense this is next on the list to be brought down as I can't see anyone using it often so they may as well. But, to compete with hermes, they need to up the weight limit to 5kg.

Through despatchbay, you can get up to 30kg on a 2 day service, picked up from your house for not much more.

Yodel, Hermes been around a couple of decades at best. RM been around almost 4 centuries, with a network set up primarily for letters. Letters that they are obliged to deliver so that will be there primary business. You can easily change the business model of on organisation that has a national footprint overnight whilst still expecting it to deliver the regulated product (letters).

The other couriers have their networks primarily set up to deliver parcels.
bro1973
10 Jul 17 #27
thats why RM have 49% share in packets all the rest make up the other 51%..
you tell me any other company that can say that..also RM are regulated all others are ..you pay for what you get.most hermes driving own vehicles probably don't have business insurance..police should lift there vehicles and all thats inside them.
rickj
10 Jul 17 #25
The likes of yodal and Hermes have invested millions in their business and like them or not have new vans for employed people or self employed people can sort their own .If employed you will get similar benefits to post office workers who lets face it most think they are doing you a favour delivering your parcels and letters .
I can't even phone my local sorting office to check if holding a parcel as you have to call in to check, no call allowed so hardly a model business are they.If post office parcels were competitive the other parcel companies would not be expanding at the rate they are.

Post office workers ripping of people to keep there miserable jobs a few weeks longer, don't mind paying the extra to pay for the proper pay of workers but to upsell on stuff that does not need to be upselled is disgusting and the main reason i stay away now

always get the feeling in the post office that they think there doing you a favor rather then every person in there are paying over the odds to keep it going rather then using far cheaper alternatvies

even at half price they're still considerably more expensive than other couriers. Anybody sending anything over a small parcel with royal mail simply doesn't know any better. Not a good business model that.
